After studying the loose collection of posts on the history of Horde magic and variations in the framework of gameplay, I developed the following set of rules for this version of a rat horde. My rats, My rules.

Much of the game framework has to do with handicapping the horde to provide a reasonable challenge. My pod builds decks in the sub-cEDH 5-7 out of 10 power space. We are toying with the size of our horde decks and the number of named cards vs "vanilla" hordelings. We use the term "vanilla" because one strength of horde-able tribes is in token creation. Token hordelings will behave differently game-play-wise than will vanilla hordelings, thus should be differentiated. Here are my rules for this particular horde: Rules for The Rat Horde (The Horde) • The Horde is+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ constructed in singleton format. Instead of basic lands, "Vanilla" hordelings i.e. 1/1 rats make up the rest of the deck. The ratio of singletons to vanilla hoardelings and the size of the deck are scalable per the size of the playgroup and for handicapping the strength of the hoard per the power of the playgroups' decks. The ratio will be maintained at 4 singletons to 6 vanilla hoardelings. Decks may be scaled to meet number of survivors and for handicapping as the play group determines. sixty (60) 1/1 rat tokens and a number of unique spells () to be determined by the survivor group. • The Horde deck pilots itself according to the following: o The Horde's turn begins by revealing cards from the top of its library until a non-token card is revealed. o All revealed tokens are then cast. The revealed non-token is cast. o Then, if applicable, The Horde casts any cards that can be cast from its graveyard, then all of its cards in hand. o The Horde has an infinite amount of mana at all times. o All creatures controlled by The Horde have Haste and "This creature must attack each turn if able." o The horde cannot play instants or activated abilities on the survivor’s turn. • Any choice making that results from a card played by the Horde will be made by the survivors according to the following: o The “leaden” rule – cause the horde do to you what you would do to it if you had the chance. The survivors will make the choice that is most deleterious to their overall chance of survival. In the case that two or more choices seem equivalently deleterious, the choice will be made randomly. • Activations costs of Horde permanents will be paid according to the following: o Activated abilities for which tapping or untapping is not part of the cost may be activated up to three times per turn. No more than six mana may be paid per turn for any activated ability. o Activated abilities for which tapping or untapping is part of the cost must be activated each turn. o Activated abilities for which payment of life is part of the cost causes the horde to mills cards instead. The horde may not mill more than three (3) cards per activation. o Tutoring: The survivors will search The Horde library for the card that would be most deleterious to their overall chance of survival. In the case that two or more cards seem equivalently deleterious, the choice will be made from those cards randomly. • The Horde will always attack planeswalker before players. • The Horde attacks the survivors as a whole. • The Horde has no life total. Damage dealt to The Horde causes that many cards from the top of The Horde's library to be put into its graveyard.

Rules for the Survivors • Players take their turns at the same time. • The player(s) get three turns to set up before the Horde deck takes a turn. • Players do not share mana pools. • Players coordinate their attacks and blocks. • Each player contributes 20 points to the group's life total, i.e. 3 players will have a life total of 60.

Win conditions • The Horde wins if The Survivors' group life total is reduced to zero or below. • The Survivors win if The Horde has no cards in its library, no cards in its hand, and no creatures on the battlefield.
