Mad Ratter Discussion

Ephara, God of the Polis is good since once you start getting some Dino cats outs you’ll draw during an opponent’s turn then will only need to cycle 1 card to get another which will continue the cycle to the next opponent’s turn.

Mad Ratter and Improbable Alliance synergize very well with the commander since they will make tokens off of the same triggers

Hey I_TappedWrong, this weekend i had to play against some sweet tunded decks and this Korvold build was really really strong. I won 3/5 games, and in one game i had a really strong Mad Ratter and Ashnod's Altar combo to kill 2 of 3 opponents with commander damage! So thank you for that recommendation.

One thing i lacked in the games was sometimes a good sacrifice outlet, so i decided to buy 2-3 new cards to exchange some ramp.

Hey I_TappedWrong, thank you for the upvote and your suggestion of Mad Ratter. This is a real good Token Machine. As far as i have tested my deck in draw simulators i have enough ramp to possibly cut one card for Mad Ratter. At this Weekend i can finally test the deck in our Playgroup and hopefully i can give you an answer about the impact of Mad Ratter.

About your deck: Your way to build Korvold seems a really fun alternative to mine. You have many powerhouses i got extra edh-decks like Omnath, Locus of Rage or Yahenni, Undying Partisan. I maybe take some of your free sac outlets to my maybeboard, because i think my deck is lacking those.

i would suggest Mad Ratter with a free sac outlet on board it turns into draw two cards on everyone's turn.

I really like the thematic deck idea! How apposed are you to using unset cards? While they technically aren't legal in commander, this deck doesn't exactly strike me as trying to play in tournaments. I'm mostly asking for Pippa, Duchess of Dice who seems pretty thematically appropriate. Even if you decide not, Ancestral Memories directly references the book, as does Pearled Unicorn. Others include Zodiac Rabbit (For obvious reasons) Diminish (Shrinking) Into the Story or Once Upon a Time also work well. Grumgully, the Generous could also be a mad-hatter character, still bested by Mad Ratter though. Also, Sorcerous Spyglass

carlmoores yes normally 40 is too much but look at who the general is. You're going to want to be paying that extra 2 to copy stuff, right? Average cmc may as well be 5.

@ Vash98 you might like these cards: Shrink (not great but it's on theme!), Vizzerdrix (white rabbit), Queen of Ice (queen of hearts maybe?), Illusory Ambusher (cheshire cat), Mad Ratter, Spore Frog (frog footman)

     Thanks Magic999!

Gameplan is to get a good board setup before considering Korvold. I use my Commander like a card draw engine & finisher, so generally I'll try to make sure I've used the resources I've got available before I look to replenish my hand with Korvold's main ability. Something like a Birthing Pod + Sprouting Thrinax to pull a Mad Ratter into play would give me lots of fodder and future setup to enable Korvold going forward.

I've included tools for drawing extra cards outside of Korvold, so that the deck doesn't have to hinge on casting your Commander to maintain steam. Often times I don't rush to play Korvold, because without a good setup it's a bit fruitless. Lethal with Commander damage can happen in a couple swings from a fresh cast, so ending the game is never going to be out of sight.

Assuming you've got a decent mana setup, you can hold a fetch land in your hand to have a free trigger when you drop Korvold. It's a nice way to guarantee you get to at least draw an extra card before the board is wiped. A really fun combo is Flayer of the Hatebound + Stalking Vengeance . I once put Myr Battlesphere into play with Footsteps of the Goryo with the aforementioned combo in play, and it was awesome. Dealt 4 Damage for Flayer, attacked for another 8 Damage with the Battlesphere, and when it died dealt another 8 Damage and drew a card from Korvold's trigger, plus got four Myr's for fodder afterwards. Jarad's Orders the Myr Battlesphere into your graveyard with any Reanimation spell in hand and you've got a decent setup right there.

Merry Christmas to you too! :)
