Mardu Bust

Modern

StopShot

Sideboard

Mardu Bust, my take on the typical Aggro-Control strategy. The deck incorporates a lot of spells familiar to similar Mardu decks like Dark Confidant, Young Pyromancer, Lightning Helix, and Lingering Souls . Mardu has removal galore, but tends to suffer from lack of relatively large creatures.

To counter-adjust this I'm running Lone Rider   and Leonin Den-Guard - both of which can power up significantly when equipped with Bonesplitter which is a cheap and all around effective equipment even for tokens. With Bonesplitter the Leonin Den-Guard is a 4/4 vigilance, and the Lone Rider   is a 6/4 Lifelink, First Strike, Trample. If these midrange creatures are removed Claim / Fame effectively recurs the bigger creatures without losing a turn to summoning sickness or it can return a Dark Confidant or Young Pyromancer to boot as well.

I haven't made an attempt to play Modern in years so the design may not be effective in today's meta. Constructive feedback is much appreciated. I threw together the sideboard with little thought, since the mainboard was the focus on my mind when constructing this deck. The new card Oketra's Last Mercy has me hopeful that I may finally out-pace burn for once. Surgical Extraction + Ghost Quarter is for Tron. Engineered Explosives is for Death's Shadow Zoo. Shattering Spree is for affinity and lantern control.
