Welcome to U/G Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca -less Merfolk. Here you'll find a different take on the average merfolk deck currently but as I will explain, it's much better than decks with Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca

Fairly basic mana base for U/G Merfolk but I prefer to run Woodland Stream and not run Hashep Oasis. 20 lands because the average CMC of the deck is so low and Merfolk Branchwalker can search for more lands.
Mist-Cloak Herald and Kumena's Speaker are both very high value creatures at a nice low CMC of 1. Best turn one play.

Jade Bearer is never played on turn one but is a great addition to the deck. It gives counters to other creatures, triggers Deeproot Elite, and can provide extra damage in a pinch.

Blossoming Defense great card. Gives Hexproof to defend against spot removal. Can pull a creature out of Golden Demise or Fiery Cannonade range. Also can help finish a game unexpectedly.

Oh howdy does like half the deck exist in this category.

Merfolk Branchwalker looks for lands or lets me filter my deck. Can end up being a 3/2 for 2 mana and has the bonus of placing +1/+1 counters on itself.

Deeproot Elite the cheaper version of Metallic Mimic but also better in my opinion. This deck is much more aggro based than the rest of the Merfolk decks out there so more often than not I will place the counters on a Mist-Cloak Herald or a Kumena's Speaker that's bulking bigger and bigger. Due to the low CMC turns can become very explosive very quickly with one of these on the field.

Merfolk Mistbinder the lord we have all been waiting for. Buffs the team, provides triggers, low mana cost. Who could ask for more.

Silvergill Adept a great card in Modern and now an amazing card in Standard. Provides card draw, low mana cost, and provides triggers.

Chart a Course, sometimes this deck can turn into top deck mode and this can be a life savor. Simply put it's just quality card draw.

Not to many of them but useful none the less.

Jungleborn Pioneer can give two +1/+1 counters with a Deeproot Elite on the field helps to go wide also gives a hexproof minion. Quality card.

Jadelight Ranger only a one of because of the three mana. Just like Merfolk Branchwalker but better. Nothing much else to it.

Hadana's Climb   I personally love the flip lands and I feel Hadana's Climb   fits well here. Still a high mana cost but provides counters for my minions. Hadana's Climb   is also a win con. It gives a dude flying which in this meta is nearly unblockable. Makes a minion hit like a truck and just finishes the game off. Usually flips quickly but also you can choose not to.

Herald of Secret Streams the one and only 4 drop in this deck. I cannot comprehend how people want to run a playset of this. It's a 4 drop for a 2/4 merfolk. Not to amazing, BUT it is a win con. If you have it in hand you can play around that and give all you minions counters and end the game. But only one.

So far I've only been able to play in one tournament with this deck and I placed 14th out of 49 going 4-2. First loss was to a Boros Aggro deck that simply, out aggroed me. I sideboarded in my answers and hit none of them. The second match I lost was a mirror match, my opponent had a much more expensive and average Merfolk deck which in my opinion is not as good as this deck. I lost in the third match on an accidental miss play that cost me the game. I learned from my mistakes and hopefully will do better next time. Otherwise the deck preformed very well in each of my games.

In my opinion this version just works better in this format and meta. With such a low CMC and so many board wipes out there right now being able to rebuild a field very quickly is so very important. I won a match through 3 Fumigate and rebuilt everytime. I observed another much higher budget deck face a single Settle the Wreckage and stumble to even formulate two creatures.

So let me know what you think, the goods the bad. And everywhere inbetween. I'll be updating any changes made and any other stats of tournaments I play in. Remember to UPVOTE and till then!
