Detailed descriptions and primer updates are in the works. In the interim:

OUT:

Flash Good riddance. Protean Hulk, Sylvan Safekeeper, Torch Courier, Incubation Druid, Biomancer's Familiar, Chord of Calling, Rest in Peace, Anafenza, the Foremost, and Paradise Druid

IN:

Pemmin's Aura, Kinnan, Bonder Prodigy, Deafening Silence, Fire Covenant, Drannith Magistrate, Intuition, Eidolon of Rhetoric, Selvala, Heart of the Wilds, Leyline of the Void, and Destiny Spinner

ON THE BUBBLE:

Vigean Graftmage (OUT), Arbor Elf (OUT), and Utopia Sprawl (OUT) Biomancer's Familiar (IN)

...but, wait! Where is your artifact hate, Tab? Simple answer, flex out the creature hate for artifact hate. Collector Ouphe, Stony Silence, and Null Rod (if you really need three these days) slot in pretty easily. Play to your own meta, it is a stax deck after all!

Like I said, more detailed descriptions to come with the primer update!

Hey, love the list. Took inspiration for it from my list here: Kenrith Bearhulk Midrange. My list is pretty tweaked for my meta (lots of heavy blue control, no graveyard strategies, etc.)

Couple general thoughts:

  1. Much like your already considering, I find Corpse Dance narrow and redundant. I took it out pretty quickly.

  2. The deck is pretty mana/ramp hungry so I have added Wild Growth and Priest of Titania which have helped smooth things out. I've found playing Kenrith out early (at least for my grindy games against control)

You're definitely right that this deck can just start beating face. I've used that to great effect already.

Interested if you had any other thoughts I should consider!

Outside of the Incubation Druid + Vigean Graftmage line, how do you generate infinite draw with the deck? The Bloom Tender + Freed from the Real lines are good mana generators but only if you're not relying on blue mana as that's the one colour that is consumed to run the loop. This means you have to dump the mana into soemthing like an Orochi Leafcaller to get the mana on colour.

Unfortunately this is the downside of Kenrith over Thrasios, as you need coloured mana to make him work.

There are a lot of lines that either generate infinite green, infinite blue, all five colors, or green / x combinations. Kenrith has a lot of creature centered ability so it is not hard to win off of infinite green at all. The deck lets you win with infinite green, infinite blue, or infinite black. All of these possibilities are laid out in the long winded primer! =-D

I will check out your list now and let you know.

Prowling Serpopard is nice anti-blue tech but it does not give you a ton for combo activation which is why I would steer away from it. If your meta is crazy on blue, then definitely go with it, or run something like Choke . I ran Oko, Thief of Crowns for a bit but found that in a four person format he was not nearly as effective as he was in a 1 v. 1, and he generally gets mashed by the entire table and makes you a target. If you are running him to deal with things like Najeela and Gitrog, then check out Kenrith's Transformation .

I'm running a pretty creature-light meta that is super blue and control heavy with decks with Niv Mizzet Parun and Urza. Oko has been a champ at shutting down commanders and being a general threat/engine. Serpopard is definitely also a meta call. Sometimes you just need to resolve a Kenrith and start bashing face. I'd certainly be taking him out if I was in a faster, more combo-oriented meta.

Choke is a really good thought. I'll consider that.

Hi, nice deck! I run something similar:) What have been the most valuable hate pieces in your testing? Some can be meta-dependant, but what would you call "staples"?

Key hate pieces for me are: Rest In Peace, Root Maze, Linvala, Notion Thief and Stony Silence. Play according to your meta and try to double up effects for maximum impact.

Remember, Stax will not win you the game! You are only trying to compensate for Kenrith being a slower commander, and/or to set up a combo to end the game.

Have you considered using Karn, the Great Creator over Stony Silence ? Seems very counter intuitive to use it considering you'd stop yourself from using treasures

@Lien

Good question about Karn! I guess there are a couple of reasons about the selection:

1.) Cmc. I can hit artifact mana across the board on turn 1 with stony, vs. 2-3 with Karn.

2.) PW vs Enchant. Depending on your meta, dropping Karn could mean him being aggro’d off the board quickly. Mid game could work with Kenrith in play...I could see that but in most cases for me, Karn will get smashed off the table. Generally, it’s pretty safe and easy to keep an enchant on the table vs. a walker.

3.) Colors. Colors matter when generating mana with Kenrith. This is why Stony was prioritized over its colorless brother, Null Rod.

4.)DE loops are not the primary line. IMHO it is more advantageous to Deny mana sources to the table than to pursue these lines. You have to make these choices as the game unfolds.

I hope this answer is helpful!

TAB Thanks for the answer! So far the build I did (inspired heavily from this one haha) is doing good at annoying most of my fast-paced opponents, however there were so many times when I've had Dockside Extortionist on hand, Mayhem Devil , Kenrith, the Returned King , and Stony Silence on board. Although I won with combat damage, I would've won sooner had I destroyed my stony

Although I guess that's how the deck wins primarily in my meta? It's interesting but I'm doing more playtests, I'll write to you what I can keep note of =) This is a great deck, really doesn't fit the meta much which I like

@Lien,

I can see your predicament! Maybe you just run Collector and it gives you the option to hate out artifacts and acts as a target for Neoform into Mayhem Devil, or Graftmage depending on your needs. If you do not need to hate out artifacts, maybe look to add Hushbringer, or a couple more interaction spells.

I am glad to hear the deck is working well for you!
