House Dimir sat in the shadows for too long and it's time to unleash it's power on Dominaria.

With mono-blue, mono-black, esper and U/W dominating most of the current standard meta, I wanted to try a different take on these decks. Why not take the best pieces of these proven decks to create a new powerhouse standard deck.

This is my take on what I'm calling "Dark Devotion" or U/B Devotion:

Deck Tech:

Removal

• Thoughtseize is the best hand disruption in the game
• Devour Flesh is great against either threats, and combos with Erebos, God of the Dead, where it's basically a Diabolic Edict
• Dimir Charm solid removal turn-2 pack rat when on the draw, as well as kills Nightveil Specter. Also synergizes with Lazav, Dimir Mastermind.
• Far / Away bounce against heroic decks, as well as sacrifice against other Gods
• Ultimate Price removal for green fatties, and Desecration Demon.
• Hero's Downfall instant-speed removal for Planeswalkers.

Creatures

• Shipwreck Singer devotion for both U/B. Controls when your opponents best creature attacks, holds off all X/1 creatures against Aggro.
• Nightveil Specter the centerpiece of U/B devotion, tough against current standard removal
• Deathcult Rogue can only be blocked Rogues? Basically means unblockable. +2 U/B devotion.
• Thassa, God of the Sea card advantage with Scry 1, and a 5/5 creature when turned-on.
• Desecration Demon 6/6 flying for 4 with +2 B devotion.
• Erebos, God of the Dead repeatable card draw, and a huge 5/7 body when turned-on
• Lazav, Dimir Mastermind +2 U/B devotion, and hexproof. Great against both blue and black devotion.
• Master of Waves at worst a sudo-Huntmaster. With devotion puts opponent on a very short clock.
• Gray Merchant of Asphodel provides huge life swings with devotion

• Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver bring in against control and creature heavy matchups
• Desecration Demon bring in against mono-blue or mirror matchup
• Doom Blade bring in against any non-black creature deck
• Duress great against the mirror or control on the draw
• Duskmantle Seer bring in against control matchups
• Gainsay solid against control or mono-blue
• Jace, Memory Adept mill against control, long games
• Master of Waves bring in 4th against hyper-aggro or mono-black
• Pithing Needle great against a lot of matchups, mainly Planeswalkers
• Rapid Hybridization solid against both Desecration Demon and Blood Baron of Vizkopa.
• Shrivel sided in against R/W or White Weenie matchups
• Trait Doctoring mainly tech against Chained to the Rocks
