PPTQ report 7-1-2017 3rd place NEPA games, Athens, PA

Match 1: G/r ramp (Sweet list)

Lost the die roll, opponents deck is focused on hating on small creature aggro so his MB was pretty weak to what I was trying to do. Combo was active on turn 5, OP died turn 6.

Out: 1x Elder Deep-Fiend 2x Kozilek's Return 2x Magma Spray

In: 1xDistended Mindbender 2x Saheeli Rai 2x Metallic Rebuke

I had a perfect curve on the draw of prism, herald, thought-knot, mindbender. Emerged the mindbender off of thought-knot and resolved the card draw before I resolved mindbenders discard. Took the Walking Ballista he drew and the ulamog in his hand, leaving him 3 lands (And 9 mana). Passed the turn and he scooped since he had no more plays.

Match 2: Mardu (Last weeks opponent I lost to in the top 8)

Won the die roll and curved into 2 thought-knots and stripped gideon and removal from his hand then drew into a pocket of lands, opponent stabilized and eek'd out the win.

I kept a risky hand with 1 land a crane and 2 prisms a caravan, archive, colossus. Never saw my second land

Match 3: Abzan tokens

Won the die roll, game 1 kept a god hand of 2 lands, crane, prism, herald, caravan, thought-knot. Drew into 2 colossus and a K-return naturally and just blew up everything and 20'd OP on turn 6

In: 1x Kozilek's Return 1x Natural State 2x Walking Ballista

Turn 5 Opponents board was Tireless tracker with 1 counter, 5 lands and a hand full of garbage. He plays all of his sacred cats and priests from the yard so that he can maintain chump blocker status. My turn 5 consisted of drawing colossus on my draw step, cracking inventors fair to get another colossus, free casting my first and fecthing a 3rd, casting the 2nd and 3rd, crewing sky boat, using caravan to produce a red and haste a colossus with battlements. Swing in for 16, killing tracker with the skyboat trigger, OP blocks with a cat and gains 1, loses 6. He untaps looks through his hand a bit, plays a cat, embalms another cat and passes. I topdeck a Deep fiend, tap a colossus to crew sky ship, emerge off of a colossus bringing back k return with the damage trigger on the stack wiping OP's board. Crew caravan with Squidward and swing in for 31.

Match 4: U/w spirit's

Won the die roll, OP didnt get his 3rd land and just got steamrolled. I only saw a Mausoleum wanderer and a rattle chains so I had enough information to SB.

On the draw I had 2 glint nest crane whiffs which shuffled pretty much all of my interaction to the bottom, opponent eventually got me to 2 with a pair of selfless spirits. Op saw the win since I had no flyers anymore and he overcommited to the board (added a Mausoleum wanderer and 2 rattle chains to the board) tapping out while I had 2 heralds and 8 mana reduction (caravan and sky boat, 10 with heralds) in play. I took this opportunity to go off, first by moving to combat and double crewing my boat, swing in with my attack trigger targetting mausoleum wanderer. Op sac's a spirit in response, with that on the stack I attempt to magmaspray the 2nd spirit, he sacs in response, so I K-return for 1 mana, he misses that he could attempt to counter with the wanderer and lets his board die. He takes 6. I free cast a prism I drew for the turn and windmill slam a colossus, sac my sanctum and get another and pass. Opponent untaps, draws and passes so I figured he would have Queller or other flash type creature/s. I untap and draw a key to the city... free cast the key and am hold up an island. Double crew the boat and swing in for 26, opponent flashes in Avacyn and I Key a colossus and he takes 16.

Match 5: Temur energyWon the die roll, game 1 was a thrashing for my opponent since he didnt see a 4th land and I just beat down with thought-knots and caravans

In: 1x Kozilek's Return 2x Metallic Rebuke 1x Distended Mindbender

Game 2 Opponent hit EVERYTHING on curve and was able to aggro me down by turn 6, a clutch manglehorn on turn 3 slowed me waaay down.

Game 3 on the play I had a very good curve and was able to draw into several K-Returns just after opponent dropped most of his 2-3 drops as fast as he could to try and tempo me out (Glint nests block longtusk cubs fo'days), I managed to stabilize after turn 5 and slow rolled the combo and eventually was able to punch through his thopters for the W.

Top 8 match 1: G/r ramp! (Same Sideboarding)After our 1st round match I commended my opponent on his build since it was super sweet and told him i'd see him in the top 8 and look who it is! When he saw we we're paired he said "I knew I was going to make it home in time for dinner" I was 1st seed going into top 8 so I naturally chose to play and managed a C-C-Combo on turn 4 that could make anyone proud. Turn 3 Herald, turn 4, 2 mana herald, free prism drawing a prism, free prism drawing a puzzleknot, free puzzleknot drawing an archive, 2 mana archive into colossus-sac sanctum get a colossus. Pass turn. Opp scooped and we went to game 2, he plays and durdles as his deck does I get a turn 4 thought-knot to strip his 6 mana chandra, next turn he plays land go. I top deck a 2nd thought knot and slam it on the board to take his oblivion sower, crew caravan and hit for 9, He draws into nothing, plays a land and passes, I play saheeli, -2 on thought-knot and take his world breaker leaving him with lands, swing 12 for the W.

Top 8 Match 2: Jund Energy

I take the play again and have a very fast curve with nothing special, curved into 2 colossi on 5, OP had missed 2 land drops beforehand so we went to game 2.

Game 2 he curved into Siphoner-cub-2x snake-glorybringer and smashed me handily as my 3 cranes I had filtered all of my removal to the bottom. Our judge even made a remark about how unlucky that was.

Game 3 We both had aggressive starts, turn 5 I was at 12 with 1 thought-knot and 2 glint nest on the board and he was tapped out. I figure the damage and made a huge punt, I can knock him to 10 and he was hellbent. His chances of drawing what he needs are pretty low so I swung out with 1 glint and thought-knot leaving the other for blocks. I had skysovreign a colossus and a haste enabler on the board ready to just nail him on my next turn. I pass turn and say "If you have removal I'll be terribly sad" he draws and says "Does this count?" and he plays his Glorybringer to bring the glory for exactly 12 after he exerts and kills my only blocker. Lesson learned, when its that close just play it safe.

Things i'd like to change:

Remove the following from the SB: World breaker, 2x Baral's expertisePossible adds? Fog's of some type.
