Thoughts on the new legend spoiled:

Mina and Denn, Wildborn 2RG

Legendary Creature - Elf Ally

You may play an additional land during each of your turns.

RG, Return a land you control to its owner's hand; Target creature gains trample until end of turn.

4/4

Guerte: This card really excited me, but I am going to have to play test it before I call it an auto include. However, I can think of countless sceneries where I would be happy to draw this card!

That's kind of what I was thinking.

Gives you an extra land drop. Can save your lands from destroy effects. Trample. Guarantees land drops for Omnath, even if you end up with same amount of lands. All seems good to me.

As far as your sideboard plan goes, I'd chooose these from the list:

1) Arachnogenesis

2) Eternal Witness

3) Greenwarden of Murasa

4) Beast Within

5) Chaos Warp

6) Tooth and Nail

7) Silklash Spider

8) Natural Order

9) Reclamation Sage

10) Triumph of the Hordes

Guerte: No Scavenging Ooze? Graveyard hate is pretty important in EDH I thought.

Guerte says... #5

You could probably replace a Tooth and Nail or Natural Order with an Ooze.

I don't care for side boards that much but never run Triumph of the Hordes because no one likes that guy who plays infect in EDH. This is just from one Omnath user to another.

Bawx1235: I definitely know what you mean! I had a B/W infact/equipment deck for a while.. I had to change it around because the infect just made everyone hate me. That is why Triumph of the Hordes is at the bottom of my list lol.

Have you considered Storm Cauldron it's by far the best card I run in my deck. Let's you play additional lands and bounce lands back to your hand, all while setting your opponents behind as well. Another disgusting card is Wave of Vitriol easily wipes the board you get a ton of elementals.

VexenX says... #9

dcponcho: Your right, I got my foil copy of Storm Cauldron on the way... But what do I take out?

December 14, 2015 6:27 p.m.

Guerte says... #10

I had a terrible time with Storm Cauldron. Personally, I feel it's good only when you are able to have more extra land drops, i.e., Azusa, Oracle, etc.

Then again, I played it incorrectly and pretty much bounced all my lands trying to play something, and only able to play two lands after.

Guerte: I see what you mean... But I have to at least try out a card that dcponcho claims to be the best card in his deck... I can just see so many different ways that it can flat out win the game

Guerte says... #12

VexenX: I agree that it doesn't hurt, but I'm still of the mindset that unless you have more land drop cards in play, it's going to be just sitting in your hand. I could be wrong tho; let me know how your testing goes.

I think cutting a land would be fine, that or atarka's command. The hard part with Storm Cauldron is knowing when to play it, because you don't want to just slam it down whenever so I could see how someone would think it's a dead card. The worst I've had it perform is getting me two elementals a turn. It combos great with fetches as well which can get you three elementals a turn. Plus in magical christmas land you can get 8 elementals off a single fetch land.

so, in playing the deck, I found a few key weaknesses.

With two control players in the pod, keeping Omnath, Locus of Rage in play is really difficult. Since the deck largely revolves around him, it's easy to lock him down. especially if you need him to survive a second turn.

Aaaaand the deck doesn't survive any kind of land hate, or token hate

feyn_do_alduin: You make valid points, but I would have to disagree. You are saying that if two control players focus on me then I can't play... The same goes for just about any deck you play. However, there are cards like Cavern of Souls and Lightning Greaves that do a pretty good job of slowing that down. Even then, I have cast Omnath, Locus of Rage for 25 before without breaking much of a sweet. He does an amazing job of going from 0 to 100 very fast. Sure, there are going to be bad match ups, but every deck has a bad match up.

I can care less about land hate, I play with high land and a ton of ramp.

I don't know what you mean when you say token hate. Boardwipes? That is just normal magic, I'll just make more.

VexenX,
For your sideboard, maybe some graveyard hate to deal with all the Meren decks that seem to be popping up lately? I like Repopulate and Tormod's Crypt, but there may be others that synergize better with your deck.

I'd also put the Life and Limb + Sporemound combo in the sideboard, for a little infinite landfall every now and then.

chelonian says... #17

It says it has already been considered, but maybe sideboarding Altar of Dementia to deal with the occasional pillowfort/dedicated-lifegain deck would help.

You can also combo Altar of Dementia + Craterhoof Behemoth to deal with any opponents who might be left standing at the end of combat

December 31, 2015 5:54 p.m.

VexenX says... #18

chelonian: My only problem with Altar of Dementia is that there are to many decks use the graveyard, so milling out your opponents would just help them. However, if that is not the case in your local meta, then I can see how it could be sweet!

I played a game the other night vs Jhoira. I had a pretty good board state after a Scapeshift and Verdant Confluence, and then he plays Jokulhaups to clear the board minus my Exploration and the land he played after. Thanks to Life from the Loam in the 'yard, I was able to make a full recovery and win.

Because of MLD, what are your thoughts on Creeping Renaissance? And if it's good, is Manabond worth running in conjunction?

January 1, 2016 10:12 a.m.

VexenX says... #20

Guerte: It is great to hear success stories! I played a game this week against a very competitive Uril, the Miststalker deck (plus two other players that didn't really do much). It was a race to see who can kill the other player fastest, and things were not looking good for me once he played Leyline of Sanctity early on. However thanks to Greater Good I drew into Boundless Realms then cast Chord of Calling to grab Craterhoof Behemoth for the win on turn 6. It was pretty epic.

I don't play in a meta with much land destruction, but if you do, both of those cards seem like great choices. I was almost considering Creeping Renaissance regardless.

One question for you sir. I have a handful of altered cards (including my commander), how do I go about adding a them to my deck list?

January 1, 2016 11:29 a.m.

Guerte says... #21

VexenX: Click on the folder icon at the top and go to Alters. Upload the alter and it will give you a code. Just copy and paste it next to the card name and it should show up.

Great, now I wish that I hadn't spent all that time and money building my Purphoros, God of the Forge deck. This is one of the most synergistic EDH deck builds I have ever seen. Have you thought about Hostility? It seems that the Hostility + Omnath, Locus of Rage + Purphoros, God of the Forge combo would be absolutely devastating. I know it would be difficult to swap anything at this point, so take my thought with a grain of salt. Brilliant deck, +1.

January 3, 2016 2:35 p.m.

Guerte says... #23

Hostility has no effect in this deck; none of our spells damage, only our permanents do.

January 3, 2016 4:04 p.m.

VexenX says... #24

D34THR31GN: Exactly like Guerte said. If Hostility read 'permanent' or 'source' then it would be one of the best cards in the deck, but sadly it reads 'spell' and creature abilities don't qualify..

I am gland you like the list!your are right, the synergy in the deck is nuts! I never need to mulligan unless there is less the 2 land... But that never happens. I have been thinking about posting an effective budget version of this deck if you are interested.

I'd appreciate seeing a budget version.
