Vesuvan Duplimancy

Enchantment

Whenever you cast a spell that targets only a single artifact or creature you control, create a token that's a copy of that artifact or creature, except it's not legendary.

king-saproling Great Suggestions, I tried to not include populate cards but thank you for the idea. I do like Nacatl War-Pride & Vesuvan Duplimancy, going to add those cards.

Some thoughts:

  • your mana curve feels extremely slow/clumsy. I’d really suggest working on drastically lowering this. You should be aiming for a deck to be in a winning position by turn 5 at the absolute latest (your current brew appears to only just be starting to do things around this turn).

  • Vesuvan Duplimancy seems really weak here, as only Stealth Mission triggers it.

  • Stealth Mission feels pointless here, as you’re not even remotely an aggressive deck (and this card has a very high mana cost for what it does).

  • Your deck has no interaction, which puts you at the mercy of the opponent. This is a massive problem, as a single flyer or creature with trample probably just beats your entire deck. You really should have some way to mess with the opponents plans.

Hi everyone! I do apologize for the time away from here. Things have been busy and I've been focused on developing my Giada, Font of Hope deck as this one runs pretty flawlessly. I thought I'd respond to card suggestions with some thoughts of my own. In short, I'm holding my current deck for now. It's always tempting to swap out with each shiny new set, but in most cases I'd favor the current list. Nonetheless, let me respond individually to the suggestions.

I like Wizards of Thay for Lore since I am a longtime DnD player, but I don't think it really goes here. We aren't running a ton of sorceries, and this isn't a deck that benefits too much from discounting that spell type. I also kind of feel like Red Wizards should be red, even though philosophically they fit with blue, but that's just a flavor point. Vesuvan Duplimancy could help us go infinite with Naru Meha, Master Wizard and Rite of Replication, and there would probably be some other shenanigans we could do with it with Venser. I don't know that it would be terrible, but I don't think it would do what we want it to do often enough to justify cutting another piece for it though. Cool card and interesting suggestion nonetheless!

I'm glad you are enjoying the deck! It does have a cool feel and stays a tribal deck which is nonetheless incredibly powerful and combo-y, which is unique. Omniscience is always a fun card and I very much use it as a central piece of my Tuvasa the Sunlit deck. With its high cmc I think it will just get in our way much of the time here. I used to run Clone Legion which is a similar cmc and does synergize, and it did make some memorable games but it was just too far off to make a difference. If you like it play it by all means, it's an amazing card and certainly won't be bad. For me it just would contribute to variance without helping the decks key synergies, but I am picky with that.

Aether Channeler is definitely good and absolutely the type of card that goes in here. It's the right cmc and like AEther Adept can effectively bounce itself back (via the token copy). But it has added utility in that it can draw cards and bounce other permanent types. It definitely replaces either Merchant of Secrets or Cloudkin Seer in that it is strictly better than the former and practically better than the latter. Barrin is good because of his second ability, which I've found to be relevant. And having an extra bounce option is very good without losing the card draw piece. I'm not so sure about Ertai Resurrected though. The abilities are certainly good, but the 4cmc *five to copy) is pushing it for me. I think he's a good option, I'm just not sold yet, particularly over something with a lower cmc.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions as always! I have so many decks and primers now it is easy to miss some suggestions, and as this is my original and favorite deck I do like to keep it up to snuff. Aether Channeler will probably go in soon.

Combat Research and Security Bypass are both soo strong. they're both things ive used in my esper build. Have you considered Shore Up as an additional option? Aside from the obvious combat trick potential, it works just as well to save your creature from alot of the meta removal being ran.. theres been numerous instances in which the +1/+1 hexproof Untap both saved my thing from exile by a The Wandering Emperor it also can get your thing over the first strike barrier depending on the circumstance. This said though in my build i run only 1-2 Raffine, Scheming Seer, instead running 2-3 Zur, Eternal Schemer and 2-3Vesuvan Duplimancy..

Note to those who want to give feedback, I'm trying to make this a very budget friendly deck, preferably under $80. The only reason I have Vesuvan Duplimancy in this deck is because I own it. This decklist was copied over from Archidekt so it doesn't have labels for cards I own. Also if you know a cheap way to buy Adrix and Nev, Twincasters please let me know.

I think it's a card that has a very high potential of setting you up for a win, but it's got it's share of conditions and caveats. It can definitely pull some serious weight just by having it on the board and swinging, but it's probably not going to win you the game unless you've got a hand to really support it.

Ideally, you'd want a mutated Ivy already down then crew -> (optionally) mutate -> swing -> clone spell. Even starting with just a single Ivy, this means you end up with two Chariots (potentially) and four Ivys. On average, I'd say you can probably expect to pull this off as early as turn five or even four, depending on how well you ramped. Provided you managed to get Chariot into your hand by then, of course.

How viable that is for you is variable, depending on how competitive your pod is and how aggressive people are with removal and wipes.

If you wanted to slam it down early (turns 1-3) and still do work, then it's going to be much more reliant on a hand that meshes well with it, meaning, at the very least, a cheap mutate option for Ivy and a protection spell or two. That's not necessary, per se, but anything less than that and you'd be playing a very dangerous game against potential removal.

In my experience, it's definitely one of the remove-on-sight cards in the deck, alongside Vesuvan Duplimancy. And Ivy herself.

On the upside, since our Dreamtail Heron and all our cantrips are pulling some serious overtime, assembling a functional Chariot hand is a lot easier than it seems at first.

Additionally, it scales very well with the rest of the deck, since a mutated chariot will be affected by copy spells as well, meaning you just keep churning out more chariots. Once you're at two Chariots swinging, you can start having it clone itself to make completely eradicating it difficult, outside of a board wipe.

My overall impression is that it works best as a mid-game drop, when you're already somewhat established and can best leverage its strengths.

flluid Thank you for your feedback!

Have you changed any cards with the release of Dominaria United? Unfortunately, I haven't found anything new in DU to add to my deck yet.

Ratadrabik of Urborg is interesting, but it's , and I wish Braids, Arisen Nightmare was a zombie.

Vesuvan Duplimancy would've been amazing if it could've stacked with Necroduality.

Drag to the Bottom played after The Meathook Massacre and Poppet Factory could be fun although it depends on a specific number of lands.

Thanks again!
