Disclaimer:

Playing this deck in paper is a logistics nightmare, as you need to keep track of which clones have what mutate abilities. Archipelagore and Auspicious Starrix care about how many times a creature has mutated, and clones do not inherit mutation counts, so each instance may have its own count, depending on when it was created.

What do tl;dr:

Keep Ivy alive, mutate and clone her.

Creatures

  • Mana dorks can pull double-duty as mutate fodder if you're forced to do it. Last resort desperation play.
  • Spellwild Ouphe, Stormchaser Drake and Pollywog Symbiote are ideal Mutate fodder, in that order. Ouphe gives greatest long-term value. Once you've got enough clones/cantrips, Triton and Drake's draw trigger becomes less important. Pollywog Symbiote is a good early mutate target for ramping cost reductions and looting.
  • Venerated Rotpriest puts a poison counter on people when you target something with a spell. Ivy copying spells still counts as a target. You know what to do.

Mutates

  • Auspicious Starrix and Archipelagore are your big value mutations with a cost to match. If you're dropping these boys, you'd best be ending the game soon. Multiple Starrix triggers can make for a messy boardstate.
  • Parcelbeast, Sea-Dasher Octopus and Migratory Greathorn are your important mutate pieces because they are cheap. If you can slap them down early, you can start cloning sooner. They're also useful for the late game if you just want to fire off mutation triggers.
  • Sawtusk Demolisher, Pouncing Shoreshark and Gemrazer are your interaction and removal pieces. Use them wisely, as they will almost certainly make you archenemy.
  • Glowstone Recluse and Trumpeting Gnarr are okay, but they're heavy drops for what they do and don't mesh as well with the rest of the kit. Counters and Beast tokens are nice, but they're not likely to be key winning factors. These are most likely to be the first options to cut if we ever get more mutates in Simic colors.

Lands

  • Is 35 lands enough? Maybe, maybe not. Time will tell.
  • Boseiju, Who Endures is pricey and is by no means necessary. I just threw it in because I already have it. Replace with lands of your choice if you like.
  • Migratory Greathorn can potentially pull out a massive amount of basics with this deck, so running more basics may actually be beneficial.

Other Stuff

  • Shared Summons, Fauna Shaman, Primal Command and Threats Undetected are your only real way to reliably get mutates into your hand. I cannot afford a Worldly Tutor.
  • For Threats Undetected, I usually try to pull Auspicious Starrix, Dreamtail Heron, Parcelbeast and Gemrazer. Getting any combination of two of these is good for you. Adjust choices based on board/hand state. If these are not valid options, try to shoot for four mutates, at the very least.
  • Vesuvan Duplimancy is a great card to get down early so that Ivy can cheat her copies. With it, you only need Ivy herself and your cantrips become extremely efficient clone pieces.
  • Stolen Identity is a very heavy drop for this deck, but it's worth it. Cipher casts the spell, so your clone army grows exponentially with each cipher trigger. Contrast with Demonstrate on Replication Technique, which, for one less CMC, only copies the spell, and thus does not grant additional Ivy triggers. Granted, Stolen Identity is contingent on dealing combat damage and keeping the ciphered creature alive, though your clones are naturally evasive and there are enough protection options in the deck that forcing cipher triggers shouldn't be too difficult.
  • Esika's Chariot is a good copy piece if you can get it down early and it can be mutated onto when it's a creature. There are benefits and detriments to mutating above or below Chariot.
    • Above:
      • Upside: Dodges crew costs and stops it from being legendary so that it can be copied, which is very powerful in this deck.
      • Downside: Is more vulnerable to removal as a creature. A third of your mutate options have toughness less than a crewed chariot, which can make it difficult to safely trigger its ability without it dying.
    • Below:
      • Upside: Chariot is an artifact for the majority of the time, making it more difficult to remove your pile.
      • Downside: Instant-speed plays on opponents' turns can be tricky, as it will need to be crewed in order to be targeted by most spells in the deck. It remains legendary, so any copy effects will result in one of the chariots dying as a state-based action. Defeats the point of having Ivy copy the spell; might as well just target her directly.

How Does it Win?

Turn cards sideways. Your clones are evasive by default and can get pretty beefy. Mutates give various options to slow your opponent's boardstates and plenty of protection keeps yours intact.

This deck is extremely scared of board wipes. Get Eel Umbra and Spider Umbra down asap and always hang on to indestructible/phasing effects until you absolutely need to use them. This deck is fairly resilient to spot removal, so don't waste your key protection pieces on saving a clone if you can help it. You can always just make another.

Twinning Staff will trigger for each Ivy trigger. Very good.

If you're lucky enough to get to Corrupted Conscience or Echoing Courage, then there is a good chance you'll be able to close out the game very soon, either through infect damage or swarming. Commander damage can win games, but it is not the primary focus. At best, you can reliably expect to remove one person via commander damage.

  • Both spells benefit heavily from having multiple clones out, especially Courage. And instant-speed Second Harvest followed by Echoing Courage after defenders are declared can lead to absolutely massive swings that can potentially wipe out a person or two.
