Light of Promise

Enchantment — Aura

Enchant creature

Enchanted creature has "Whenever you gain life, put that many +1/+1 counters on this creature."*

Cradle of Vitality might be a bit more resilient and versatile than Light of Promise, though much more expensive. Not as good with Soul Sisters for sure, but better if Aerith smacks someone with a parasol

Okay, love the concept - paying one mana for two 3/3s is pretty stellar value! Definitely a fun way to abuse an unorthodox aspect of hydras. Doing so on a budget is especially impressive.

Having said that, is Honor Troll really doing much for you? You call him out in the deck description and he's the only card in the "lifegain" category, but... I dunno, gaining slightly more life whenever you would gain life anyway seems a bit bland. Even if you're hoping to maintain the nod to the lifegain theme, I assume you might rather draw some cards! Even if you do like the effect, Cleric Class might do it better - it can pump up your commander at the same time and also provides another way to reanimate a hydra as a 0/0. Oh yeah, and you might prefer Light of Promise to Sunbond: it's an identical effect for one less mana. Hopefully some ideas here are of use to you!

Hey ShieldOfHolyShadows your reasoning makes a lot of sense to me. I admire that you don't want to compromise the nature of deck, and I think keeping it less aggressive and allowing your opponents to make their own choices is really cool.

In light of that, I believe the non-threatening facade of the deck paired with Noble Heritage's built-in protection means you don't need to run cards like Windborn Muse and Ghostly Prison. Also those propaganda effects are slightly antithetical to your ethos imo. Yes the opponent still has a choice, but is it much of a choice? Pay a bunch of mana to attack me (the non-threat), or attack the real threat for free. Also why would they attack you in the first place unless they absolutely had to, at which point you use your aikido cards right?

As for the angel subtheme, I am a big anti-lifegain person haha. I think lifegain is pointless without payoffs (e.g. cards like Light of Promise). In fact, it gives opponents an excuse to attack you because you have the most life. As for having flying blockers, this may be personal bias, but I rarely see someone snag a win because they had multiple connects with beefy fliers. Combat-based wins are already pretty uncommon and when they do happen, the horde/voltron is overhwelming. Having a couple angels on board would not save you.

I think spurring combat between opponents makes more sense than hiding. It allows opponents to take each other out with damage when otherwise they wouldn't be able to. It also makes your aikido cards hit harder. Hiding is slower and aids the combo and control players. Maybe you already considered these but here are a few more warmongery cards that come to mind: Assault Suit, Rite of the Raging Storm, Varchild's War-Riders, Dictate of the Twin Gods, Combat Calligrapher

Looks good. Personally I would make these swaps:

Second Breakfast -> Forgotten Ancient (allows you to use Lathiel's ability to essentially put counters on Lathiel himself, resulting in exponentially-increasing lifegain and counters, and also makes commander damage a more viable wincon)
Obscuring Haze -> Scrounging Bandar (same as above. also, fog effects like Obscuring Haze aren't needed since you gain so much life)
Felidar Retreat -> Light of Promise(not enough landfall support for Felidar Retreat. Light of Promise turns Lathiel into a major threat)
Tocasia's Welcome -> Hunter's Insight
Angelic Accord -> Sunbond(Sunbond is more impactful)
Elderscale Wurm -> Pathbreaker Ibex
Garruk Wildspeaker -> Gyre Sage
Rampant Growth -> Prize Pig(Pig would be crazy here!)
Farseek -> Incubation Druid
Sanguine Sacrament -> Armorcraft Judge
Ajani, Caller of the Pride -> Cultivator of Blades

Spike Feeder would be an inexpensive option that would create infinite life-gain and +1/+1 counter combos with Sunbond and Light of Promise. It's also really good in this deck for non-infinite combo reasons.

You could have infinite damage by giving S&H lifelink and having a "gain life = +1/+1 counter" ability on board.

E.g. any of these: Ajani's Pridemate, Trelasarra, Moon Dancer, Voice of the Blessed, Celestial Unicorn, Light of Promise, Sunbond, Gideon's Company, Ageless Entity, Cleric Class, etc. (there are more)

Plus anything like these: Lifelink, Spirit Link, Basilisk Collar, Shadowspear, Spirit Loop, Felidar Umbra, Armadillo Cloak

COMBO CORRECTION :

Lathiel's Gatling Gun : Walking Ballista + Heliod, Sun-Crowned

“Life moves pretty fast..” - Ferris Bueller’s : Spike Feeder + Light of Promise or Cleric Class

... And sorry for my bad english, I'm writing as fast as I can hahaha
