Ertai's Scorn

Instant

This spell costs less to cast if an opponent cast two or more spells this turn.

Counter target spell.

Remember that you are an aggro deck. As such, you want to lower your mana curve. You don't want to give up on card advantage, but you are willing to ignore life gain and pay some life instead.

Hey. I'm happy I made a deck to enjoy. Let me know any suggestions depending on how it will go or what I should work on!

It depends on whether you intend to keep this deck a budget deck, so I'll suggestion budget sideboard cards.

Fading Hope (Scrying can ensure you mill a creature as well), Divide by Zero (Especially since it's a multi-purpose counter that provides value and you can discard a creature card if you don't learn), Soul-Guide Lantern (Graveyard hate nowadays), Bloodchief's Thirst, Perpetual Timepiece against GY hate directed towards you, Spell Pierce, Make Disappear (Lots of 1 power things to sacrifice) and Ertai's Scorn.

The deck has a slow start, so countering early game aggression or an opponent developing their strategy, basically.

Stern Dismissal I wouldn't bother playing too many of. That's highly situational, and could help you get lethal damage through by bouncing a critter. It's also not a counterspell. In a similar vein, Essence Scatter is useless if you're going up against a control player (who play very few, if any creatures, and the ones they do play usually come with the "Can't be countered" ability). See Chromium, the Mutable, Hullbreaker Horror, etc. If your meta is creature heavy, then by all means. Though I do have a preference for counterspells that exile instead of having the spell hit the graveyard. Ertai's Scorn is really useful in matchups against burn, or against fast aggro decks, but again is situational. If Lilly is your bane, then you could consider Negate which is effective against walkers for 2 CMC.

Vicarian thanks for checking it out.

What do you think of cheaper counter spells like Essence Scatter and Stern Dismissal over Dissipate and Ertai's Scorn?
