Playstester
aloehart199, 13 years ago
It played well on the tapped out playtest so the deck draws decently (Attempted 5 rounds, 12 turns each) Possible changes: Possibly drop 1 desperate ravings and 1 galvanic blast for 2 harvest pyre for some extra removal ability. Not sure but it seems card draw may be an issue. Will determine that after actual playtesting.

forgot to add lands to the list, derp.
Minor Adjustment
franconbean, 13 years ago
Moved an Oblivion Ring to the main deck, cutting Day of Judgment altogether. Added a Remember the Fallen to sideboard for removal heavy decks.

tried to stream line it, took out a few spells like corrupted resolve as i have few creatures and added Ponder and the Commando for a bit or card draw...the manna curve seems to work pretty well...i like the BlightSteel and Quicksilver...not necessary, but fun and one of few combos in here...not complicated, possibly annoying but fun..not my norm cost= >45$

Took out Wall of Tanglecord for Viridian Emissary, which will be used defensively to keep me safe and add lands to fuel the Zenith.
Revamp 1.1

Changed the cards a bit, getting rid of Red Sun's Zenith for Beast Within and Viridian Emissary in place of Acidic Slime to speed things up a notch.

I still think Mono Black Control has a spot in standard nowadays. Stupid cards like Mirran Crusader and hexproof creatures doesn't mean that black can't do well. You just need to know how to deal with them.
having fun

this deck has changed a lot since i started playing with it. the fact that it can produce a lot of mana really quick even if i do not get a heartless out means i can still cast my big creatures when i need to and IF i want i can still play heartless so i can reduce the mana cost to play more of them. i have beat a wolf run ramp deck at FNM thanks mostly to a turn three liliana and me popping his kessig' lands but it was a hard earned victory. the beast of the deck hands down is wurmcoil engine. Massacre wurm takes a close second simply because his first ability does not always help when facing a deck with titans. against a weenie deck though he is absolutely brutal. being able to bring either the wurmcoil engine or the massacrewurm back from the graveyard to the battlefield with unburial rites is also a god send sometimes. i dont know how many times i have cast a wurmcoil, had it pop after it hit board and then re-cast it with unburial rites only to piss off the other player. I have even had one person say its a never ending wurm deck but that was because i did that with ONE wurmcoil three times before i beat him. I did notice a problem with the deck where i have at least 10 mana and all of a sudden end up mana swamped for three turns with a dead card in heand like quicksilver amulet or heatless summoning, the former has been replaced with lead the stampede. that one card could be the single reason i get a wurm or it pushes me past my mana clump. there are a few people that do not like the card simply cause they wouldnt play it but they dont know how it can really help. as for my side board... i tossed what i could into it to try and help the main deck with some things. the steel hellkite is a great replacement instead of 2 of the wurms so i can swing and wipe the opponents board of things giving me problems. phyrexian metamorph is rediculous because i can cast it for 1 mana if heartless is out and allows me the option of copying almost anything on the board including my own wurms. everything else was put in to try and control the opponent a little better while i build up the army. all in all i find this deck to be extremely fun but it will most likely have trouble with burn decks and counter decks.

This deck feels kind of evil against mono color, especially Illusionary Terrain, with the upkeep paid twice (even with a High Tide). It was hard for my opponent to keep mountains. Glacial Chasm became a beautiful sunny Island (global warming) with Sea's Claim. Perfect for the Serpent of the Endless Sea and the Harbor Serpent.

Played this one last night, worked well the Onnas are pretty devastating on enchant/ artifact based decks, the red has a good tempo to it, Glitterfang + Blademane ... yikes! Oni of Wild Places, and Oyobi are great late game brawlers especially with the Gohei in play. Took out two Petalmanes and a Skullmane (his tap ability is restrictive) added 3 Scuttling Deaths (the -1/-1 and the Soulshift 4 would have really helped me last night)

Dominated a field of amazing decks with this contraption. Didn't even come close to losing a round. 1st round, G/W tokens: 2-0 in under 10 minutes. 2nd round, Voltcharge Red: 2-0 but sidedecked in Timely Reinforcements. Man are they amazing against Mono-Red. 3rd round, Wolfrun Ramp: 2-0 Kill the Inkmoth Nexus and control the Garruk, Primal Hunter and it's really simple. Finals, Mono-Black Infect: 2-0. Twas a joke. Not a single poison, and had to go to 5 cards second game.
+2 Joraga Treespeakers
HeadSnipingSam, 13 years ago
Through playtesting this deck quite a bit, the Wellwishers were just not necessary, but the Helix Pinnacle was a solid win condition, especially against my friend's infinite life deck. (I hate it btw cuz it is stupid XP) So I removed the wellwihers and added another Helix Pinnacle.
I did not want to be low on creatures, so I added 2 Joraga Treespeakers to help ramp mana even more. (like it needs it. I have had more than 1,000,000 mana available with this deck around turn 7 or 8 and about 320,000 elf tokens)
I also found that the Strength of the Tajuru tended to just stay in my hand, so I removed two and added another Genesis Wave because that was reliably useful. I also added two Immaculate Magistrate to replace the Strength of the Tajuru

7th place FNM 1/13 (3-1-1)
1) 0-2 Blue aggro/control featuring Delver of Secrets Flip and Runecaster's Pike. Could not find the answers.
2) 2-0 Blue aggro/control featuring Delver of Secrets Flip. Played correctly around counters both games.
3) 1-1-1 Bant human aggro featuring splash of Negates and Mana Leaks
4) 2-0 BG Infect. This was funny actually. Both games I correctly controlled the board, opting to stop every little creature I could. The guy couldn't keep the steam. Game 2 of the match ended with Venser's ultimate exiling everything.
5) 2-1 RDW. Can't believe I won this. Game 1 I lose quickly. Side board 3 Negate, 3 Flashfreeze, 2 Timely Reinforcements, 1 Tree of Redemption. Game 2 opponent scoops after a Karn goes ultimate. Game 3 I mulligan to 5 cards... proceed to draw into everything I need and win.

#2 in Standard tournament @ Day Dreams

Double elimination, won my first match, lost my second, won the next two. I went against the person I lost to in the semi-finals and won 2-0. He was running Kessig Wolf Run/Inkmoth with the Prim-Time and Inferno Titan. I then had to go against an Illusion deck, won 2-0, then against the SAME guy7 again. He took the match taking first and putting me in second.
It was a fun night. At the time I was only running two Myr Superion and have now added an additional two.
