Skirsdag, Lord of Innistrad
spudking12, 13 years ago
Really fun deck idea me and my friend came up with abusing Skirsdag High Priest. He is excellent late ame and early game for tokens putting out potential 6/6 flying vigilance tokens by turn three. Please comment, and I need help with the sideboard. Thanks! (Oh, +1)

Added Rhystic Study(s)
anonsequitur, 13 years ago
Added a few Rhystic Study(s) to the deck. I find that they have great synergy with the Patron Wizard and can often put opponents in a tough position of choosing to let me draw or trying to get a spell through. It will either help replenish your hand, or it will save you on tapping wizards or lands in multiplayer. Either way, they are good for when everyone inevitably gangs up on you.

Year-End Victory
PoxMaster, 13 years ago
After grinding into my legacy top-8 year-end event held by my card store with the standard R/B Goblins lists, I switched to this and crushed the opposition, (merfolk, zoo, and another reanimator deck,) grabbing 3rd! Unfortunately I ran into a weird fact or fiction U/W control list that ran Snapcaster Mage, Noxious Revival, and Surgical Extraction post-board, stopping me in my tracks. Check this list out - it is very powerful!

Major Tweek

There were a lot of swaps and switches in here today, after several playtests.
Phyrexian Crusader is now a 2 of main deck rather than a side board. Massacre Wurm is now side board.
Blightsteel Colossus is gone in favor of faster play. Doom Blades over Spread the Sickness. Still debating on main decking a memorcide or not.

One more thing I forgot to add. If you get an Etched Monstrosity out, use Hex Parasite to take all of the counters off of it so it becomes a 10/10 without tempered steel and your Hex Parasite is now a 6/1 without tempered steel.

fixed the mana curve a bit was getting higher cost artifacts way to much.

As DKA cards continue to be spoiled changes are being made to the deck. Let me know what you think!

a deck where killing creatures (yours or your opponents) is a good because it gains you life and ups your creatures.

Question. Should I work in Ambush Viper over Skinshifter or Garruk's Companion? It might be worth it to help stall the game. I kind of don't want to lose my flying ability from Skinshifter, but the Garruk's Companions are aggro and fast. A lot of times my smaller creatures get blown up anyway, so Ambush Vipers might be good. Any opinions?
I'm removing rebuke from the SB and putting in Prey Upon. I think this will serve me well, especially for plucking flyers out of the sky.
My last consideration is Predator Ooze. Is it too slow? Maybe. I believe the best thing about this deck is when I'm playing blue or black, and my opponent has a fistful of cards but can't do anything because my creatures on the battlefield are Dungrove Elders and Thrun, the Last Troll. Knowing that they probably have at least 2 Doom Blades and a Viper Snag as I swing in for lethal makes me feel all warm and cozy inside. Predator Ooze could perpetuate those feelings...or it might just be too slow.

Addressing Weaknesses

Mainboard: -2 Harvest pyre, -1 Mountain, -1 Swamp, -1 Ratchet Bomb +2 Incinerate, +2 Pristine Talisman, +1 Day of Judgment Sideboard: -2 Flashfreeze, -1 Oblivion ring, -1 Day of Judgment +1 Dissipate, +2 Go for the Throat, +1 Ratchet Bomb. Reasons: Harvest pyre is beautiful removal... in later game. Until you get a few spells in the grave its useless which at earliest is turn 2 (cast a removal or counter on your opponent) or turn 3 (possible alchemy). But its only POSSIBLE. I've gone to turn 5 without casting anything but 1 mana leak, 2 think twice, and an alchemy. Flashback spells are wasted as fuel for this spell. I thought replacing 2 pyres with 2 incinerates wouldn't be bad. Incinerate makes decent removal early to mid game. And its a spell to exile with harvest pyre for later game removal. And, like harvest pyre and desperate ravings, it adds to shrine of burning rage. The shrine itself is good removal and can be brought back by sun titan, making your red spells a bit more valuable. -1 mountain and -1 swamp for 2 pristine talisman's. This is an easy one to explain. The deck is slow, it doesnt allow a lot of instant speed removal or control, and sometimes you just don't want to risk blowing your mana on sorcery speed removal when your opponent may take the opportunity to cast a large spell. Pristine talisman helps to balance this issue by giving you back a little bit of life as well is some slight mana ramp. I chose swamp and mountian because there was a little too much of both. Talisman is useful when paired with the grotto as well. If you have a talisman out and a grotto you can count the grotto as if it were a rupture spire.(rapture spire?) Finally the swap between ratchet bomb and day of judgement. Ratchet bomb serves well in this deck as it is good removal for smaller creatures and it can be brought back by sun titan. The problem is its slow, it only removes some of the problems, and it can be destroyed before its useful. Day of Judgment lets you remove all of your problems from the field when you need it. The bomb has been swapped for a day in the sideboard because against token decks a ratchetbomb is insta kill. Once sun titan is out there you basically shut down token decks like nihil spellbomb shuts down Solar Flare. Also if you decide to run this deck, I recommend leaving at least 2 spellbombs in the sideboard. They can be brought back by sun titan (and they cant counter it when you do) so they are good control against graveyard shenanigans weather you go 4of or 2of

Decided that this will be the version I am running for now. I may decide to revisit this deck later and still am open for suggestions.
I'm interested in comments for card choices I've made and an argument against a choice if you don't agree with it. But please if you don't agree with a card choice, explain why. And what you would put in its place.
I've received some really great feedback and this deck has been reshaped more than once due to the feedback given. This would be revision 4 (I think) and I think I'm finally satisfied with it for now. But again willing to make changes if they make sense.
The three main pieces to this deck are:
Venser, the Sojourner, many cards combo with him, namely Oblivion Ring
Tunnel Vision the first win con in the deck and the main kill con, much of the deck is built to support this card, Boseiju, Who Shelters All helps to ensure the tunnel vision will hit if I get it.
Guile / Dovescape (an alternate kill con if tunnel vision fails)
