Lightning Strike

Instant

Lightning Strike deals 3 damage to any target any target (creature, player, planeswalker or battle).

I like the addition of the Chandra walker. Her 0 ability you are most likely to use all the time almost always ensures you can pay and get a Phoenix Chick back from the yard. Also I saw very early spoilers and saw we are getting Lightning Helix in the next set. Complete upgrade from Lightning Strike for you but my list needs to rework a little for it.

I’d definitely replace Lightning Strike with Lightning Bolt, otherwise looks pretty fun.

This looks really good! What do you think about Incinerate instead of Lightning Strike? I'm not sure how often regenration comes up...

I think 1 or 2 Fireblast could be good as a nice surprise finisher :)

You're not likely to cast Lava Axe or Assembled Alphas off 20 lands with no ramp, unless the game goes long (which is what a burn deck does not want). This is more Goblin tribal than burn; burn wants pretty much every card in the deck either be a land or say "(card name) deals (#) damage to (target)" like Shock or Lightning Strike (and if you can get ahold of some, Lightning Bolt). Every card that's not immediately dealing damage is slowing a burn deck down. Goblin tribal generally focuses on lots of creatures pumping each other up and attacking fast and hard, which is more of what you have here. Both strategies are viable, and there's a little bit of overlap, but they're not interchangeable. To give you an idea of the similarities and differences,

Also, look for Goblin Grenade.

The best thing to do is probably to lower the curve a bit:

Kumano Faces Kakkazan  Flip is a cheap card that works wonders for the strategy

Play with Fire is a better Shock, and Lightning Strike is a better Roil Eruption

Monastery Swiftspear is probably one of the best red 1-drops ever, and pretty cheap with the BRO reprint. Soul-Scar Mage is pretty similar, no haste, but a chance to progressively kill problematic creatures or mess up combat math with the -1/-1 counters is great.

Den of the Bugbear and Ramunap Ruins can be considered to have some utility in your lands without giving up any colored sources.

Eidolon of the Great Revel is the most expensive card that mono red plays in pioneer right now, that might be a step too far if you're worrying about the budget. But that's probably where you'd want to end up being serious about the deck. In the meantime you could consider cards like Khenra Spellspear  Flip, Kari Zev, Skyship Raider or Bloodfeather Phoenix to make sure chapter 2 of Kumano Faces Kakkazan  Flip goes to use.

You could look up some lists on MTGGoldfish or MTGTop8 to see what's generally played in the mono red decks, and work your way there bit by bit. I think my suggestions should give you plenty inspiration to get started though.

Icbrgr on How many board wipes?

Is it just me or do Control lists in the Pioneer format NEED to run a seemingly high amount of board wipes in the Main Deck? (Between 4-6 seems to be what I'm seeing as the trend)

Honorable Mentions

I have been tinkering with a Jeskai Control list and I thought splashing for Play with Fire/Lightning Strike would reduce the need for running 4-6 mass removal spells and running typicall Good stuff toolbox spot removal via Fateful Absence/March of Otherworldly Light in combination with a countermagic suite would be enough... but holy cow was I wrong.

I did a lot of playtesting against what I thought to be a simple/straightforward Deck on MTG Top 8 and sheesh... if you dont have a boardwipe you just lose lol

I guess what I'm getting at here from my learning experience is that coming from Modern I felt having 3 Supreme Verdict effects was kinda obnoxious... and seeing decklists in Pioneer with 6 just seemed crazy to me... but yup you just need that many and a way to draw into them as consistently as possible too... aggro is just really strong imo.

I simply disagree. The difference in 1 mana is massive. Lightning Bolt is a multi format staple. Lightning Strike is draft chaff. The card at 2 mana is really powerful. Not to mention that it has Goblin synergy and stays on the battlefield. Maybe if it has to attack every turn, but a 2 mana 6/1 blocker is a pretty big wall.

jethstriker on mono red burn needs help

I suggest adding Eidolon of the Great Revel at least in your sideboard. Even if its not helping you in the mainboard because of your meta, it should help you on burn's hard matchups. The only card choices I'm having doubts on the mainboard are Incinerate and Lightning Strike. But then your on mono red so your card choices are constrained. I suggest Skewer the Critics and 1-2 copies of Grim Lavamancer on the mainboard to round out your build.
