I like to spread positivity, and create decks that are fun to pilot and to play against, even if they don't really work. I don't keep up with new cards often and I don't spend that much money on the game any more. So, when I'm not creating a conceptual deck, I find myself using cards from the 90s since that's what most of my collection is.

This deck, which has existed in one form or another since 1998, is one of my favourites.

+1 for the nostalgia! I love a good time capsule deck :)

But the nostalgia! Shivan Dragon, Dark Ritual, Birds of Paradise, $999 packs purchased directly from Wizards via the Internet... It feels just like 1993!

Jokes aside, it's tough to get excited about any of it. Just another product that's "not for me."

I love the idea here! I also agree with legendofa on dropping Reflecting Pool in favour of the filter lands. If you find you really need more copies of Forbidden Orchard you could use Mana Confluence or City of Brass instead, for access to any colour.

Back in the day I would have thought there was no way, but today I can definitely see a steam punk-inspired set. I agree with what you said about it not being a 1:1 steam punk world, and more of an aether-punk world. (Although the cynic in me wouldn't be surprised at a Wild Wild West Sected Lair...)

I actually think we've come close before, outside of Kaladesh. A lot of the Izzet cards, at least in their art, feel like steam punk infused Magic to me. They have Steam Vents and Izzet Boilerworks, and in my mind the art of Izzet Guildmage is what a good balance of Magic and steam punk would look like. Maybe a steam punk set could explore their roots more.

I could certainly be persuaded to join a deck challenge :) What did you guys have in mind?

I agree with Icbrgr, if you don't have any use for it or any other attachment to it, I would trade it in for something you want. I don't know much about newer sets so I'm not sure how likely it is to lose value when it rotates out of standard or gets reprinted, but I would take that into consideration as well.

That being said, I have quite a few cards I have no use for but I kept because I thought they were neat to have.

Ooh, I like that too! It's kind of surprising how many options there are considering the faerie restriction. My first thought was the changeling route, but with a red splash for Pandemonium and Fling, although there might not be enough high-powered changelings/faeries to support that...

I had no idea where this was going with Willow Priestess, but now that I know I love it! Great card for a buildaround :)

Seems really strong. I'd definitely run it :) I just really like the idea of turning phasing into a benefit.

I've never seen Nosferatu, but after reading this I'm going to check it out. Thanks for sharing!

Hey lcarl3035, thanks for the suggestion! Druid Class is interesting. I like that it's a little harder to remove than Jaddi Offshoot since it's an enchantment and the level 2 might come in handy sometimes.

TheOfficialCreator is spot on though. Since it's usually just a race, the lifeloss from the fetches and shocks isn't a major factor. Typically the mana is better spent on crabs and extra land drops, and Jaddi Offshoot is in the board to help mitigate the life loss against matchups where damage is key.

For helping with the blocking and payoffs, maybe something like "whenever a creature phases out tap target creature, it doesn't untap during its controller's next untap step." That might be too powerful, but removing an attacker for each phased out creature is kind of like blocking... sort of...

Anyway, cool card! I love to see more support for phasing :)

I always enjoy unconventional takes on common archetypes so this looks fun! How do you find it works for speed? With the payoffs on the higher end of the curve I'm wondering if it might be good to make the lower end of the curve more removal and control based.
