Hi everyone!
We've been chatting about Ixalan here for a while, but on 21 Aug Wizards got into the act with four promo cards (and some upcoming tokens):
And then on 28 Aug they posted a BUNCH more:

Seems that way considering the dino lord is also Naya, honestly it makes sense but I would have (still hoping) liked to see some plesiosauria in blue.

Each color is represented twice there, so dinos are probably naya. There might be some bleeding into other colors though.

Pirates in Grixis colors has a bit of flavor;
IIRC, Vraska joined up the pirates there and is in league with Bolas
Here's a question: Will Vraska dump her and go with ?

Skysovereign, Consul Flagship seems better than
to me.
I'd rather have something that flies and deals damage, than something with Vigilance.
Wizards explain to me why is only allowed to have Spirebluff Canal and Highland Lake, when gets Canyon Slough and now Dragonskull Summit.
Why won't you replace Wandering Fumarole with something decent?

Well sure, but Flagship was a Mythic. Battleship seems pretty solid as an Uncommon. Though I don't expect it will be nearly as good in Limited as Untethered Express was ...
Of course, Battleship would look better than all of them on a playmat :-)

Well looks like we got the big butt ankylosaurus I was hoping to pair with "Belligerent Brontodon" (or Millitant Dinosaur depending on which site you look at. Dino-EDH is looking more and more fun, especially if the unconfirmed gold rare dinosaur on MTGSalvation is real.

clayperce They actually didn't confirm all the cards from the leaked sheets (they left a few that were illegible for themselves which is a nice way of creating speculation), they kind of just didn't mention that.

clayperce: It is not Gishath and it wasn't in that article, which is why I was apprehensive about mentioning it. However, MTGSalvation is usually pretty reliable, so I think it is real.

I was just reminded that Arcane Adaptation (naming Ally) + Turntimber Ranger = LOTS of 2/2 Wolf tokens and a VERY big Ranger. Seems like it may have some potential ...

Assuming it is real it could make dino tribal a thing as you wouldn't need to rely on things like Anger. I just hope this set has some good ramp cards in it so dino tribal can be a thing outside of EDH.

Not sure if I have seen this card posted on here yet, but what are folks opinion on Tilonalli's Skinshifter? Flavor wise I think it is referencing the the Navajo skin-walker legend which is really cool.
As an actual card though I can't tell if it is good or bad at 3cmc?

Hi_diddly_ho_neighbor: The skinshifter could be good but only with the right cards surrounding it, alone it sucks, maybe though in something like dino tribal it could be good if we get some "when ~ deals combat damage" abilities.

Oloro_Magic: That was kind of what I was thinking. The problem with Dinos though is that it looks like dinosaurs care more about being dealt damage than actually doing damage themselves (which is odd with Grishath).
Right now the Skinshifter actually seems to pair better with pirates for their raid mechanic and a number of them have deal damage effects.

Hi_diddly_ho_neighbor: My concern with it in pirates right now is it seems like pirates are going to want to curve only as high as Admiral Beckett Brass and as such the Skinshifter may have a lot of competition at the 3-drop slot.

clayperce that's EXACTLY what I thought when I saw Arcane Adaptation.
I'll be adding that to my General Tazri's Allies deck, to sit comfortably alongside Conspiracy.

Flavor-wise, this set seems like it's trying to make up for what they did to Zendikar.
Gameplay wise, it seems like this is going to be the commander set which we should have gotten this year.

After playing various Tribes for about the past two years I can confidentally say that I think Pirates will curve out at higher than 4CMC.
You want to get to something more than a 3/3.
I could be wrong, but that's been my experience.

Well here is a nice way to potentially repeatably abuse the dinosaur enrage mechanic:
The translation goes something like:
"Infuriated Gladiodon" 3RG
Creature - Dinosaur (Uncommon)
Trample
When Infuriated Gladiodon enters the battlefield, it deals 1 damage to each other creature.

Seems sweet. 4 mana 4/3 isn't terrible and it lets you loot every turn. One of ym favorite uses of raid yet (this set has definitely been using raid much better than ktk did)

It looks so much better high res I didn't even notice the scale until now.
It honestly looks like an entire civilization exists on that ship and makes the lore for the pirates of Ixalan that much more intriguing, from an amateur artist I say well done.

To everyone worried about the Deathless ancient do you not remember any of the ridiculous multitude of graveyard hate cards and exile based cards in amonkhet and hour of devastation? He really isn't that big a deal with those in mind.
