Hi everyone!
We've been chatting about Ixalan here for a while, but on 21 Aug Wizards got into the act with four promo cards (and some upcoming tokens):
And then on 28 Aug they posted a BUNCH more:
- Mechanics and some new cards are here: Ixalan Mechanics
AllMost of the previously-leaked cards are here: Behind the Scenes with the Alleged Ixalan Card Theft
So let's talk Ixalan!
7 mana has been used as a balanced wrath for killing everything but lands in the past ( and sometimes lands themselves) Star doesn't kill anything and doesn't hurt players themselves. It doesn't kill the Gods, it doesn't get rid of artifacts or enchantments or lands, it doesn't hurt players. Seems completely balanced and almost too slow to be playable to me (except in EDH)

MWorl91 I wouldn't even play it in EDH, not as long as Blasphemous Act and Chain Reaction exist

In EDH it works well with Boros Reckoner and Stuffy Doll

RazortoothMtg I agree. The flipside is gorgeous.
I disagree about its usefulness in EDH. Early filtering at that stage of the game comes in handy.

Argy I don't have any decks that would play it. I agree Search for Azcanta Flip would be good in Kess, Dissident Mage or something like that, not so good in Purphoros, God of the Forge or Daretti, Scrap Savant lol.

How is Star of Extinction balanced? Is not 20 damage far too high for only seven mana?
