Best Commander for an Eldrazi Deck

Commander Deck Help forum

So BFZ is coming out soon so I want to be ready to use these giant world consuming monsters commonly known as Eldrazi to ruin games. Anyway I was thinking that commander was my best bet, but I can't decide on the best commander to use. I was considering just revamping my Xenagos, God of Revels commander deck to have more ramp and Eldrazi, but I don't think I'll be able to ramp fast enough. So should I use Xenagos, God of Revels or a different commander? Anyway I would love some feedback, thank you!

best general for an Eldrazi deck? An Eldrazi ofc!! :-) I use Kozilek for mine due to the hand refilling greatness. Colourless EDH is pretty straight forward to build, and ofc, mana rocks have the most explosive acceleration so you can always get your general out in time to match others. Green/Red can definitely ramp hard though so I think that will be fine too. He will be a bit win more with Eldrazi though lol but the haste will be juicy with em!

I think he's talking about the colored Eldrazi, which makes things...interesting. Essentially, you're going to want a commander like Karona, False God and a way to keep her on your side. Despite the whole "Devoid" mechanic makes the spells and creatures colorless, their color identity is NOT. So, if you want to run, say, Barrage Tyrant, your commander is going to need Red. Add in other colors and issues start popping up. TO that end, you're going to want a 4 color commander or you can specialize in just 2 of the colors, and lose out on the others.

But Karona's always a safe bet for X color Tribal.

Rakdos, Lord of Riots is decent for a deck looking to play huge creatures.

I have an Oona, Queen of the Fae deck so that I can make the most use out of Eye of Ugin and the processors.

Animar, Soul of Elements also makes colourless guys cheaper similarly to Rakdos

Animar, Soul of Elements is the best because how fast you can put counters on it. After that I would say Rakdos, Lord of Riots.

Absolutely Animar, Soul of Elements

I run Kozilek, Butcher of Truth and Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre in my Animar and Xenagos decks. Both are super fun and super explosive decks

I plan to put Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger, Conduit of Ruin, and maybe even Oblivion Sower in my animar build: HERE

Personally I took a different route and went for Feldon of the Third Path in my The third path is the saddest and I will be adding a bunch of the new eldrazi to this as well.

Instead of actually casting them (though I am capable of ramping to it) I am reanimating them with Feldon's activated ability. This means instead of paying 10-14 mana I'm paying 3 for eldrazi.

Wheel of Fate/Wheel of Fortune dig for more eldrazi and also discard ones stuck in my hand for reanimation (while also screwing up opponent's planned out turns).

Nothing quite says "Fuck You" like a Pathrazer of Ulamog on turn 3, 4, 5, and 6 in a commander game.

I think comboing out turn 1 is a pretty big "Fuck You."

In magical christmasland everything is possible! Even thinking that no one has a FoW, Daze, or Flusterstorm in a competitive meta.

Yay for unicorns, butterflies, rainbows and free counterspells!

To be honest, it depends on how competitive you want the deck to be. My colorless Ulamog deck consistently brings him out by turn 4 or 5. One time as early as turn 2. Colorless decks are really simple to ramp up since there is no need for color fixing. Mana helpers such as Metalworker, Mana Crypt, and Mana Vault, really get things going. Animar works too, if you're throwing other things and creatures in there. But to go purely Eldrazi and big scary Annihilator, colorless is the more straightforward and consistent way to go. If someone kills Animar, that sets you back quite a bit. Anyway, it's up to you! Good luck!

Prime Speaker Zegana is awesome for the new eldrazi - large creatures means more draw power.

The Mimeoplasm is great with Eldrazi as well.

OK I think I'm going with a colorless Eldrazi commander. Now the question is witch legendary Eldrazi (including the new one) I should use as a commander.

Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre is probably the most powerful. Spot removal when cast, and continues board control with annihilator. Plus his indestructability adds to the resourcefulness. Kozilek, Butcher of Truth is good for card draw, but a simple doom blade can take care of him before annihilator can kick in.

There are enough equipment to protect Kozilek. I think efficient card draw is lacking in colourless, so he'd be better than Ulamog. especially with the new Vindicate common.

If card draw is something to worry about, Howling Mine, Slate of Ancestry, Scroll Rack, Memory Jar, Tower of Fortunes, or even Temple Bell could fill that gap.

Ulamog vs. Kozilek is really kind of personal preference. Ulamog is more of a beatdown commander from what I've seen. Kozilek is more for shenanigans.
