Expensive upgrades! —May 21, 2018

I had some spare money, so I bought major upgrades to this deck. I got my hands on a masterpiece Overgrown Tomb, a Riding the Dilu Horse, and a Craterhoof Behemoth. This deck is performing better than ever before :)

I just wish I could have found a copy of Earthcraft while I was at it...

Teufell: Hmmm. Intriguing! I'll try to acquire/test one.

I haven't gotten to play much EDH lately (interning at JPL is brutal) but I'll try it when I get back to testing the deck!

Seeing your list, and loving it, has caused me to buy a Protean Hulk, Gaea's Cradle and a Bayou. You've got a great deck here, as I've said. I'm debating on adding a Viscera Seer or Mike. Otherwise, Hapatra has become my favorite deck.

Keep up the good work.

hurricane219: I see I've inspired you to spend even more money on this deck than I have! Haha.

I'm so happy (again) that I could inspire your deck! :) I'm always thankful for your suggestions on what I could improve here. And I will try! :)

Thoughts on Grave Pact and Dictate of Erebos for creature control by using your snake tokens as fodder, especially with all the sac outlets already in the deck?

Thoughts on Razaketh, the Foulblooded? Is it too much mana?

Teufell says... #6

maxmcnugget I've been using Grave Pact on my hapatra for quite some time. It's really effective against targeted effects that destroy creatures, adversaries are, usually, afraid of doing anything to your minions with it in play. And comboing it with Ashnod's Altar, Mind Slash and Victimize is also great.

Grave Pact is a good card I too might put it back into my hapatra deck and with the new EDH 2017Curse of Bounty can be fun with the snake tokens and other resources you just have to look out it can backfire if you don't have a failsafe

maxmcnugget: They're definitely good cards for this deck! I originally did not include them because I didn't want this to be too close to my The Hungry, Hungry Aetherborn: Yahenni EDH deck, which uses them as a central part of the identity of the deck. But they'd definitely fit right in! (Though I'd have to open slots...)

hurricane219: Hmmm. On one hand, it IS a lot of mana. On the other, it's almost always better than Sadistic Hypnotist, and it's better to fetch with Defense of the Heart...I should acquire a second copy to test with in the deck! Thanks for the suggestion, that might work very well :D

gdm1989: I personally am NOT using Curse of Bounty here; in my meta, there are a lot of mana rocks and mana-hungry combos, so it's very likely that I will cause myself to lose by playing it :( Still, thanks for the suggestion! :)

Any particular reason why no Flourishing Defenses as redundancy for Hapatra/Nest of Scarabs?

August 30, 2017 5:40 p.m.

Daedalus19876 says... #14

kaipalin: Too low-impact for its mana cost shrug Despite the fact that it's redundancy, it was just never necessary when I drew it.

Hapatra just got a very nice toy and it's name is . With the amount of snakes and control this deck have, activating her ultimate would be a piece of cake

Gorgeous deck, the best i've seen so far. I was wondering, how much strong and oppressive is this deck without Smokestack ?
I really wanna build Hapatra, but my playgroup is very Timmy and lows on wrath, i don't wanna be that guy.
Maybe the budget version is more suitable?

Daedalus19876 says... #19

gdm1989: Honestly, I don't think that Vraska, Relic Seeker fits in here. I might manage to get her ult, but she still comes down T6 and can only set an opponent's life total on T8...

hurricane219: I considered it for a while, but I didn't have a reliably sac outlet at most points. If I add it back in, I could stick some more sac outlets in and make it a faster way to get Protean Hulk...

Pallino: Thanks, I'm so glad you like it! :) The deck is definitely strong without Smokestack - that shouldn't be a problem. If your playgroup is very Timmy, though, do they resent infinite combos? If so, the deck might require some pretty heavy alterations.

Overall, though, the budget list for this deck isn't...amazing. I'd definitely pattern off of the non-budget version and adjust from there :) If you want to make this less staxy/comboy, it's definitely possible to include more Overrun-style effects (which are great with Deathtouch). I hope that helps!

Daedalus19876: Thanks, i was very afraid that the budget version power level wasn't enough.
I will try cutting down Mikaeus, the Unhallowed and some (or all) stax effects for a more 75% power build.

Ever considered Living Plane with any -1/-1 combo like Liliana's Influence? Locks down your opponents with minimal effort.

goblinguiderevealpls: Glad to be of help! :)

Nilla151: I'll try to take a look tonight.

WolfEatsPenguin: I considered it, yeah. Honestly, the problem for me (beyond the $$$ cost) was that almost all of my counter-granters are symmetric. I might consider Natural Affinity, though...

gdm1989: Ehhh. If I'm generating enough snakes for this to matter, I'm already going to win. Also, too many people play Eldrazi Titans for this to be a viable win-con.
