The Lord of the Rings Deck

Vintage*

mickalopagus

This is a deck I built based on the synergy of Egg and other 'When this creature dies' cards, and destruction cards, namely Jokulhaups, and to a lesser extent, Blasphemous Act, Wrath of God, and Planar Collapse. Nearly all of the creatures I have added have some positive interaction with destruct cards, the Eggs Dragon Egg, Roc Egg, Rukh Egg, Tuktuk the Explorer, and Hallowed Spiritkeeper are great wincons after a complete wipe. Other cards such as Manor Gargoyle, and Gideon, Champion of Justice survive as well to create an advantage after a wipe.

I added Doomed Traveler to this deck for the synergy he adds to its destruction theme. That he represents Frodo Baggins just happened to work out, so I could only add one of him. Sol Ring represents his precious new find. Gollum is TukTuk, Gandalf is Hallowed Spiritkeeper, Aragorn is Gideon. Greater Gargadon reminded me of those Oliphaunts used in battle. Oracle of Bones and Purphoros, God of the Forge reminded me of the mountain Goblins. Purphoros has great synergy with the wipes, as when new creatures come out of the destroyed eggs my opponents get hit for 2 damage again. Then I can use his second ability to beef my new creatures against a wide open board.

Overmaster, Coercive Portal, and Mana Vault are the help that Frodo receives along his journey, and Land Tax was thrown in for early support but also because the artwork is very hobbit-like.

You could really say that my opponents represent the Fellowship, as they are tasked with surviving my destruction. This makes me Sauron. But the fellowship always wins in the movie, and unfortunately that seems to be the trend with this deck. 0-4 IRL.
