Changed the local meta —Feb. 18, 2013

As excited as i was to be able to do this... I'm kinda bummed. I created the fastest deck in standard, and dominated the local meta, winning on turn 3 and the like... and the usuals were mad little boys.

This last friday nearly all of them changed their decks entirely to deal with the speed mine brought to the table. Its kind of humbling to hear them say right out "I built this deck to beat yours" before you start your games. The satisfaction would have been able to irk out that 2nd win against them. However, there decks did do as they intended, and stalled me out in time to start overwhelming me.

So until i figure out how to make this deck the best early game, the best mid game, and the best late game, I'm going to retire it for a little while. I have loads of other decks to try out, and Naya Humans is not my exclusive area of study, although it is my favorite.

I will continue to answer any questions on the deck and how it performs... but my results will be focused around other decks for awhile. Here is where my mind is floating... Master Biomancer decks... and Psychic Strike decks... Coming soon to a theatre near you.

Awesome brew! This looks like SO much fun to play.

I understand the T3 goal of getting through to lethal, but then why not at least have a few 4 drops? In this deck I actually like Riders of Gavony better than Hellrider, as it could help you push through unblocked for a T4 or T5 win.

@TeamRocketTyler, first off, i'm going to +1 your decks because your name is awesome.

Second off, I think Homing Lightning is an awkward red spin-off of Sever the Bloodline . I'm not sure if i like it, because not too many decks that i face have all one creature type, unless its some sort of token deck. I know the card can do well against those decks... but until they are more apparent, and threatening, I'm going to keep my sideboard full of things i KNOW i need.

Stromkirk Noble is a fantastic 1-drop, with humans becoming more popular (damn you star city people, and winning tournaments with this archetype before me!), it could be a real good thing to run. However, i'm trying to stay within my boundaries, and make all my creatures as 'synergestic' as possible. A mid game Champion of the Parish or Boros Elite is a lot better, to me, than a mid game Stromkirk Noble . I would not feel happy in drawing him.

@DrFmeat, this deck is SO fun to play. I dont get tired of it. I have been thinking about editing my sideboard to cope with midrange, but against so many decks, i don't even get to the midgame before i win ;D

However, i'm not sure i'd run Riders of Gavony . I do like the idea of the protection, but against 1 creature type? Its not as effective as it seems. I'm not facing many tribal decks at my store, so i might be able to dodge 1 of their creatures. I could play better things than that. And cheaper. Like Mugging (yes the card is fantastic)

why no Blasphemous Act ?

thought about running some in my Spheres Of Madness on next FNM (still need those goddamned dual lands -.-) just because of the pure power of Blasphemous Act + Boros Reckoner :D

by the way I love the way you described your best friends girlfriend as "a girlfriend of one of my best friends" instead of "the girlfriend" xD

I'm sorry I know my last sentence was not helpful ... :P

I'm not apposed to dating a girl... but i didn't want to give any false impressions :P

And.

I think Blasphemous Act would only be useful against the mirror... maybe. However, i do it being a possibility, I'll probably take out Reforge the Soul , because i had no inclination or desire to use it when i played on Friday.

sorry to ask this again, and i know you answered this all ready, but it disappeared before i got a chance to see. why don't you have any, Stomping Ground or Rootbound Crag ?

February 6, 2013 12:04 a.m.

Vos_Is_Boss says... #7

Mainly because i need the one drop, Champion of the Parish or Boros Elite . Having that option available more often. I find that i am not running into any mana problems with this list, I always have a red source, and/or, i always have a white source when i need it.

At least, since gatecrash started. The Sacred Foundry s really help now, but i used to run the Rootbound Crag before gatecrash, and i found that white mana wasn't always there when i needed it.

For anyone interested, i'll be posting results from tonight's standard again. Hopefully without slacking. My goals are not to win, but to play against all the deck types out there. I still need to face an "esper/control/mill" deck... as well as Naya midrange, boros aggro, RDW, or B/R Aggro. I want to see results from real time playing.

Stay tuned, and keep checking on my profile if you're interested to see how this deck fares against decks, and thanks for all the votes. Makin' me wiggle with excitement. :3

Just a quick warning, since I'm running a naya human's deck one of the first things I did was try to make a deck that would destroy it (which I did) just to help make some alters to things that might be overlooked, and one thing I definately found, you might want to run 1 or 2 basic plains for one simple reason, the U/B Control deck I made (haven't posted yet) ran Ghost Quarter , which in your current deck means you lose a cavern or shock land and end up with just a mountain, and that is a really really bad day, If you want I can send you a basic breakdown of how the control works so you can also use it to tweak your deck some (I'll start using it at FNM once the naya meta takes over like I believe it's going to)

Vos_Is_Boss says... #11

If they Ghost Quarter one of my lands on before turn 4, I'd be surprised. And at that point, i don't really mind which lands i lose, because the max I'll ever need is 3. Games that last longer, it probably wont matter... because if the game gets to turn and i haven't won yet, i was doing something wrong.

I don't think I'm too worried about Ghost Quarter yet, I haven't seen one played in 2 months. Thanks for the warning though, its definitely something to watch out for. I think i might change a few things.

the main focus for the counter control deck against naya is land control which is why it's a big threat, it mostly focuses on 3 spells and unblockable creatures for the lockdown, ideal play with it is turn 1 Tormented Soul turn 2 Contaminated Ground , turn 3 Hands of Binding cipher'd onto Tormented Soul and then normal kill spells and Ghost Quarter as needed, I do agree that Ghost Quarter by itself is not that large of a threat but if combined with Contaminated Ground it can almost completley shut down a deck like this, even though alot of people see Contaminated Ground as a non-playable

Vos_Is_Boss says... #13

Oh i love Contaminated Ground , reminds me of back in the day, with Spreading Seas and the like.

Now... now i kind of want to make that control deck. :D

You're right in how that could seriously put a dent in my plans, however, nobody at my store will be running it, so for now, I'm going to pretend it wont happen. I'm going to hope it wont happen.

Bwhahaha, I was not a turn 3 kill but instead a turn 4 kill!!! (I will last ... longer ... than some decks ...)

I am extremely flattered :3

Nah, Silverblade Paladin just makes me cry.

BTW, you will help me with my mana base. I hate being stuck with all islands and no swamps

Raek says... #16

My friend is buildling it to run at FNM so I'll let you know how it goes since the local meta is aggro, it'll also run Invisible Stalker , Tragic Slip , Ultimate Price , Unsummon , Mind Grind , Consuming Aberration , and for funsies I really want to throw in 1 or 2 Shimian Specter because I would really love to unsummon something and then exile all copies of it, it will also definately run Human Frailty in the side for when it matches up against humman aggro decks

@Raek I like your style. Please send me a shout when you post your deck, I would love to check it out. The deck Vos_Is_Boss has here is pretty awesome and I've been considering altering my G/W aggro deck in a similar manner (Apoptosis Revamped G/W Aggro v2.1), but there is a special place in my heart for control that for me stretches back to the old days of big blue...

mainboard Golgari Charm incase of Contaminated Ground for the lulz during casual. They make the carvern of souls a swamp, you get rid of the enchant from the one black mana source they gave you. Haha

On a more serious note, I am debating whether or not to have Thatcher Revolt . It has won me games, but it also has lost me games. Great when I goldfish, bad on an empty board.

Vos_Is_Boss says... #20

It the same as having a land in your hand when you'd rather have a Silverblade Paladin .

Cards work good in the best circumstance, and are useless in the worst.

However, if you feel the benefit of the card is far less appealing than another, go ahead and swap it out. However, i have always been happy seeing a Thatcher Revolt in my hand, for one, its offensive, for two, i can always combo it out with something on the field, or the next thing i draw.

So i guess the consideration factor is... when you're on a rampage, dropping a Thatcher Revolt is win. On an empty board, dropping a Thatcher Revolt is 3 damage. 5, if you played Rancor earlier, and have it in your hand again. OR, you play something like Act of Treason . Your board is empty, you can still steal their shit. OR, Hellrider , very good with a full field, still decent with nothing on the field. OR Zealous Conscripts , very good with a cluttered field, still pretty damn good when you have nothing.

Would you rather have the combo card for a faster win with more aggression, or would you rather play one creature or spell to play it safe. Its all about your own play style. For me, Thatcher Revolt is one of my favorite things in this deck type. Personally, i wouldn't get rid of it.

Thanks for the advise. Also, SCG Atlanta had an 11th place Naya Humans finish. That deck is much more aggro orientated. ]http://sales.starcitygames.com//deckdatabase/displaydeck.php?DeckID=52806

haha. The internet just likes to steal ideas.

On a more speculative note, my gut hopes a human four drop that is playable will come out in DGM. Wizards has played around the idea for too long.

Riders of Gavony doesn't count?

February 7, 2013 7:03 p.m.

soccerdude240 says... #25

Unfortunately, no. While riders is fantastic against tribal decks, it isn't very goodAgainst nontribal ones. Neither Riders of Gavony nor Odric, Master Tactician arePlayable in standard at the moment. The best human four drop in recent years wasHero of Bladehold . Hero can swing for 7 alone, which is pretty game changing. If an opponent did not deal with it, they would loose soon.
