Prophet and Drone Replacements —March 11, 2016

After playing this deck against a variety of others I have found that it plays a whole lot more like aggro than it does midrange. That being said, there are two cards that I really need to trash: Prophet of Distortion and Blinding Drone.

I am sort of at a loss for what to put in their place, though. Six free slots is a pretty huge difference. I am still trying to keep the curve low, so running a bunch of the regents isn't really optimal. Here are some cards I am considering.

2x Angel of Renewal

2x Sunscorch Regent

4x Wall of Resurgence (Not sure if I really want to turn my land into creatures, but it is a great candidate for Eldrazi Displacer nonsense.)

4x Kitesail Scout

4x Expedition Envoy

I am also looking at SB options, thinking I might need some good non-creature spells to switch out for my Vryn Wingmare against heavy aggro creature decks. I am thinking of a few things...

4x Immolating Glare

4x Make a Stand

So that's where we are at. Please make some votes on what you would consider to replace these two cards as well as the SB options if you can aruun, Mr.grizzly and NotSquishedYet.

This is what I have done with the main deck. The biggest change is to cut out the fetch-lands as they do not worth the money in this deck (that is, if you do not have some to spare).

Creatures

2 Knight of the White Orchid

4 Vryn Wingmare

4 Reflector Mage

4 Eldrazi Displacer

4 Archangel of Tithes

Sorceries, Instants, and Enchantments

4 Mirror Mockery

4 Negate

2 Quarantine Field

4 Radiant Flames

4 Flameshadow Conjuring

Land

2 Mountain

4 Plains

4 Island

2 Blighted Cataract

4 Crumbling Vestige

4 Prairie Stream

4 Evolving Wilds

The idea with reflector mage attacking + mirror mockery is excellent. You basically make sure that they have no blockers whatsoever when you attack. I added in Red to play Flameshadowing Conjuring to make sure I get something extra for sure before the creature is destroyed (I had experience with RM entering the battlefield and get Crackling Doomed/ Draconic Roared). Faerie Miscreant is a decent card that I think will fit for a sideboard in case I am facing an aggro match up. Radiant flame is to make sure I don't get swamped by tokens (but, negate should do the work most of the time unless I am seeing tons of Thopters).

Maybe Monastery Siege? Having 2 or more out lets you protect your stuff while giving you cards.

Consider Orbs of Warding, Dampening Pulse, Citadel Siege. I'll look for alternatives, but it seems like Prophet of Distortion and especially Blinding Drone need replaced; they don't really have enough synergy with the rest of the deck. Also, Sunscorch Regent might make your opponents reluctant to play spells, as well as use them. Monastery Siege could fit in with that theme.

NotSquishedYet: I like those suggestions. I am trying really hard to stay away from non-creature spells, but Orbs of Warding might help. Honestly, though, when playing it I usually have enough of a field not to worry about preventing damage. The Sunscorch Regent is pretty great, I totally overlooked it.

everscorned: yeah, she belongs in the SD at least. A solid card for aggro match-ups. Thanks!

ryanmok17: I see what you did there, but I think that is taking some of the concepts of this deck into an entirely different direction. You should go on and build a weird, Jeskai etb creature deck. When you do, send me a link, i'll check it out!

RovkirHexus: I think that's a solid SB card as well against controlly nonsense. I'd probably switch it out with Mirror Mockery in that case. Thanks for the feedback!

I really like the synergy with Eldrazi Displacer and a lot of this deck. Especiall the Kytheon flip trick by blinking him during combat.

I love this deck and you might not realize it yet but this deck could go very far! This will do wonders in the current meta, and I see it being strong for a while. I have actually sleeved up and playtested this deck several times. The only card I find lackluster is Prophet of Distortion. If you absolutely need to draw a card with him you are in a bad spot already. Don't get me wrong, he works while you are ahead and keeps pushing the pace but I think I will be looking for a replacement. As for the sideboard I have: 3x Gideon, Ally of Zendikar3x Monastery Siege3x Negate3x Secure the WastesAnd 3x Eerie Interlude when SOI is released. These Sideboard cards are against decks with a lot of creature hate or control. Radiant Flames and Languish all boardwipes wreck us. With Gideon, wastes, negate, interlude we stand a very good chance. I will continue to test this deck and I will probably run it through some FNM'so if that is cool with you. You get an upvote from me for sure, and I look forward to using this deck to make people rage quit.
