A storm is coming...

This is a Standard deck built as tribute to the new Sigarda, Heron's Grace. The name pays homage and refers to my first real and favorite EDH deck, "Justice at any cost", which is a Sigarda Voltron/Enchantress build that can also be found on my profile. (Go check it out!)

The main theme of this deck revolves around aggression and resiliency with a core of Humans, taking advantage of Thalia's Lieutenant, which is an absolute GODSEND to this archetype and the human tribe in all formats where it is semi-viable.

I'll be updating and revising the list as more new cards come out and more testing is done with the deck. I'm so excited for Shadows over Innistrad! I really hope you share in that excitement with me :)

This usually means T2-4. Some of these creatures I want to be playing as early as possible, like Dragon Hunter. Others aren't as important to get out ASAP. Thalia's Lieutenant basically allows this deck to exist, and is very important to nearly every aspect of what this deck is trying to do. Look to be getting in as much early pressure and damage as possible without just giving up creatures for no reason. I would rather not attack than lose a creature in combat to a block, as having creatures on board is important to the late game.
  • Dragon Hunter is not much more than a 2/1 human for , but it does have some additional text against any deck that happens to be running Dragons, such as the RB Dragon list.

  • Thalia's Lieutenant is the most important creature in this deck. What's great about it is it's ability to be good on T2 and also still relavent and even crucial on T4 and later. The above creatures take precedent above this creature, but this should be one of the next creatures you look to get onto the field to make the most of the triggers it will acquire over time.

  • Lambholt Pacifist   was a card I was really excited to see spoiled since the deck needed some more actually good creatures. While this card seems to have a big downside to it, being a 3/3 blocker for 2 that can accidentally become a 4/4 serious threat is actually quite good. When you add onto that the fact that a single trigger from Thalia's Lieutenant or a single counter from Dromoka's Command or even just dropping an Always Watching turns off this cards front-face downside, you begin to understand just how powerful the card is.

  • Knight of the White Orchid is a card I'm still trying to figure out a good balance of. maybe it should be a 4-of, maybe a 2-of. I'm not sure. Regardless, the card is good for letting you come back from a mana deficit and can even ramp you in mana if you're on the draw and sequence your turns correctly. Having first strike is also nice. Since adding blue for Reflector Mage, this card also helps to fix the mana.

  • Reflector Mage was a card I had been considering for a long time now. I loved it and it fit perfectly with the deck, but adding blue to the already stratched manabase was difficult. However, I think the power level is enough to warrant it, and I think the mana base has been tailored finely. Reflector mage helps in the mid game to handle annoying blockers and has extra text with Collected Company since it can enter at instant speed.

This is the point in the match when I am looking to do one of two things: Finish off my opponent, or begin refueling my hand/field. A timely Always Watching can help with ending things. The same goes for a Gideon Emblem. Otherwise, it's nice to hold up mana for company so that you can begin to play around board wipes, which your opponent will likely be wanting to bring in or play against you.
  • Always Watching following a good early curve-out can easily put your opponent on the back foot or even just finish them off if they weren't doing very much. This card synergizes very well with Lambholt Pacifist   , and the vigilance can be back-breaking for other aggro strategies, especially since we have some creatures with first-strike.

  • Gideon, Ally of Zendikar is an extreme powerhouse and people know that already. This is no exception here. Acting as an anthem on legs is really the secondary goal as I'd rather just drop him and begin filling up the field with more and more dudes until my opponent is overwhelmed. Gideon is good when ahead, when behind and when at parody.

  • Collected Company acts as a sort of Dig Through Time for this deck. There is no question that this deck falls to an attrition or control strategy if they get enough of their disruption and removal, so having company as a backup plan is awesome. This card also can combine well with Thalia's Lieutenant to sneak in a bunch more counters on your creatures, or even a couple first-strike blockers to get a free kill on one of your opponent's creatures. This card is challenging and may be the most difficult part of learning how to pilot this deck well.

  • Sigarda, Heron's Grace is the namesake of this deck. Let's be honest: she isn't that much of a powerhouse in here, I don't think. BUT, she will remain because she was the entire reason I built this deck and I will not forsake my queen. Now then. Sigarda provides us with another way to refill the board when things go south, assuming the million exile effects haven't taken card of that already (seriously WOTC, cut it out with the exile effects). Besides that, she matches up well against Archangel Avacyn  . Could be swapped out for a 4th copy of Gideon easily.

  • Tireless Tracker is a card that I really feel shows promise. It's a 3-drop in a deck full of anything but, and it allows the deck to continue refueling even if I keep top-decking lands. This is a card I am currently testing and may be replaced or reduced.

  • This deck doesn't carry much interaction in the main board. What I'm hoping for is to just blow them out of the water in Game 1, and then follow up Games 2 and/or 3 with more strategic battles involving SB cards. That said, any good deck prepares for interaction. So...here ya go.
  • Dromoka's Command is still quite good despite the rotation of so many enchantments. This card gains a lot of value against decks with burn in them, and also combos very well with Lambholt Pacifist   to allow the creature to attack regardless of its downside. This number could be upped to 4 if you feel you need it that much.

  • Declaration in Stone is white's new "amazing" removal. I'm still unsure just how good it is since we're early into things at the moment and I haven't gotten to test it out on the field very often. It's possible the MB wants more than one copy, but there are extras in the board in case they are needed in Games 2/3.

  • "WHY AREN'T YOU PLAYING JACE THOUGH??"

I imagine this will end up a common question from people. Baby Jace bothers me. I'm not sure if he is right for this deck or not, but I don't like him and I wish the card wasn't printed. Basically, feel free to add him in, but I won't be doing so. Thanks <3

A Sideboard guide can be provided if enough people request one, but I felt like it was mostly self-explanatory. I hope you enjoyed my latest creation, which was generously helped along by the wonderful community here on Tappedout. You guys are the real MVP!

I finally added blue/Reflector Mage to the deck. I can't imagine it made things any worse in the long run, and I actually am starting to feel like this deck could gain some traction as a competitive player since it is now basically a Human-centric version of Bant Company. Calling it such unfortunately downplays the extent to which I brewed this build together, but hopefully those of you who have been around can testify that this is much more than a Bant Company net deck.

Keep the discussion coming if you feel like it!
