This is the point in the match when I am looking to do one of two things: Finish off my opponent, or begin refueling my hand/field. A timely
Always Watching
can help with ending things. The same goes for a Gideon Emblem. Otherwise, it's nice to hold up mana for company so that you can begin to play around board wipes, which your opponent will likely be wanting to bring in or play against you.
Always Watching
following a good early curve-out can easily put your opponent on the back foot or even just finish them off if they weren't doing very much. This card synergizes very well with
Lambholt Pacifist
, and the vigilance can be back-breaking for other aggro strategies, especially since we have some creatures with first-strike.
Gideon, Ally of Zendikar
is an extreme powerhouse and people know that already. This is no exception here. Acting as an anthem on legs is really the secondary goal as I'd rather just drop him and begin filling up the field with more and more dudes until my opponent is overwhelmed. Gideon is good when ahead, when behind and when at parody.
Collected Company acts as a sort of Dig Through Time for this deck. There is no question that this deck falls to an attrition or control strategy if they get enough of their disruption and removal, so having company as a backup plan is awesome. This card also can combine well with Thalia's Lieutenant to sneak in a bunch more counters on your creatures, or even a couple first-strike blockers to get a free kill on one of your opponent's creatures. This card is challenging and may be the most difficult part of learning how to pilot this deck well.
Sigarda, Heron's Grace is the namesake of this deck. Let's be honest: she isn't that much of a powerhouse in here, I don't think. BUT, she will remain because she was the entire reason I built this deck and I will not forsake my queen. Now then. Sigarda provides us with another way to refill the board when things go south, assuming the million exile effects haven't taken card of that already (seriously WOTC, cut it out with the exile effects). Besides that, she matches up well against Archangel Avacyn
. Could be swapped out for a 4th copy of Gideon easily.
Tireless Tracker is a card that I really feel shows promise. It's a 3-drop in a deck full of anything but, and it allows the deck to continue refueling even if I keep top-decking lands. This is a card I am currently testing and may be replaced or reduced.
