Sideboard

Modern is a greedy format - it as simple as that. Your opponents need their mana and setting them back even one turn opens you up to victory. My take on Ponza is built with maximum efficiency in mind; because the deck spends resources destroying the opponent's lands, the threats and spells in the deck have to generate card advantage or end the game quickly.

This recent iteration, which I have dubbed "Monster Ponza," is built with the R/G Monster archetype in mind. It maintains the core Ponza elements, such as Land Destruction, ramp, and big fatties, but eschews clunky spells in favor of value-generating monsters to assure that you are able to end the game quickly or out grind your opponent, something normal Ponza builds typically have a hard time doing if met with one or two removal spells.

Was the only undefeated player heading into round number eight, but, nonetheless, lost my last round to Mardu Pyromancer in a good midrange back-and-fourth game number 3 to end 7-1 -- good for a second place finish (the Blue Moon player I beat in round 7 ended up in first).
