I decided to switch from control to mid-range, due to lack of sauce. So far it seems like a solid choice. The point of the deck is to kill off creatures early game and keep digging for answers til I can throw down some fatties myself, and just keep swinging in. Every card in this deck combos pretty well with other cards in the deck, so i feel like most cards are necessary, but i might be missing some stuff and just don't know it.
Creatures:
Augur of Bolas is really good with 18 instants and sorceries, there is about an 80% chance he gives card advantage, plus he himself is a useful blocker.
Snapcaster Mage plus any instant or sorcery like Searing Spear or Izzet Charm or Tragic Slip is really good, hes just a good card.
Izzet Staticaster is very good against lots of creature heavy decks, can be used as a combat trick, makes Lingering Souls pretty useless unless they have Intangible Virtue.
Vampire Nighthawk for his flying deathtouch and lifelink. (hes really good) gives me life, and kills anything that doesn't have first strike.
Duskmantle Seer gives me card advantage, and the most hurt I can take is 5, and he puts the pressure on the opponent a lot. Giving them extra cards is a downside, but giving me extra cards is worth it.
Olivia Voldaren pings little guys to kill them, and steals anything that could be a problem. She gets to be a really big flier if left alone too long. If they have no creatures, and I don't feel like playing anything, i can just ping my own creatures to boost her.
Thundermaw Hellkite lets all my fliers get through for mass damage, and he is just good by himself.
Instants and Sorceries:
Pillar of Flame is good for killing creatures early game, and after early game, my deck can set up pretty well to deal with most things. At worst it is 2 damage to their face.
Tragic Slip kills indestructible boros creatures when stuff dies (stuff dies a lot) and predator ooze as soon as it comes out. It is just great removal overall, can make any creature that i have that dies trade for anything pretty much.
Undying Evil is an extremely under popular card in my opinion. It allows me to trade creatures with someone, and then get my creature back. With Vampire Nighthawk, people get pretty pissed off. Its also super good with Thundermaw Hellkite and every other card pretty much, besides Olivia Voldaren without counters. It also lets me use Izzet Staticaster's ability twice in one turn, which is super good with all the 2 toughness creatures that are in standard.
Izzet Charm is extremely useful, it lets me deal 2 to a creature as a combat trick or removal, lets me discard flashback cards, or cards that would be easy to play with Snapcaster Mage, and draw 2 cards, plus counters planeswalkers and instants and sorceries and artifacts, kinda like Mana Leak but not quite as good.
Searing Spear is extremely good with Snapcaster Mage for cheap easy damage. also kills lots of stuff, a great cheap removal spell.
Think Twice gives me card advantage on their turn if i decide not to use removal on their creatures, has flashback so it goes well with Izzet Charm and is just super good as it is.Rakdos's Return is a one of because it is good in a lot of circumstances, but people will strategize against it a lot. But this is a mid-range deck, so they usually only discard like 2 or 3 cards. still a great card tho.
Forbidden Alchemy puts cards with flashback into my graveyard, and it lets me take the best card for the situation at instant speed. It also has flashback itself if the game goes that far.
Sever the Bloodline is also a 1 of because it is pretty good removal against a lot of stuff, but sometimes just having a Searing Spear is just as good for less mana.
Comments are appreciated, I've spent a lot of time trying to perfect this deck. If you are bored, try play testing it, you will love it most likely!
