This is a cheap zombie build for those looking for a budget modern deck. It's primary focus is to constantly ping with etb effects AND sacrificing your zombies. Having at least one wayward servant and diregraf captain is key. There are other ways to win of course, but that is key for quick damage. We have card draw using altar's reap and cosly punder. This helps with the sac trigger as well. We will use macabre waltz and ghoulcaller's chant to get our zombies back and continue playing, drawing, and pinging our opponent down.
Here is the rundown of our Main, Side, and Maybeboard. Also note our maybe board is zombie upgrades I would prefer to use over some of our budget friendly options.
Spiteful returned - Is our cheap deathtouch creature with upside. It has potential to do 3+ damage per turn pending lords being out.
Lord of the accursed - For a late game win con pending board setup outside of it being a lord. Being able to give your zombs menace will cause problems if your opponent doesn't have enough blockers or a response.
Tidehollow sculler - Is to help get some early game threats out of the way. I was thinking of possibly adding more, but wantedto test it first.
Wayward Servant - Our life gain and pinging zomb to to help offset potential life loss off of final payment.
Butcher ghoul - Using this for multiple etb and sac triggering using it's undying ability.
Diregraf captain - Another lord and also our pinger for when our zombs die.
Sirk ridge exhumer - Here for another cheap zombie with upside. If we have either cards we can afford to discard we can create tokens for extra pinging and bolstering our creature base.
Costly plunder/Altar's reap - Using for card draw and help with potential death trigger(s).
Ghoulcaller's chant/Macabre waltz - Using to get or zombies back to continue casting, pinging, drawing, etc.
Final payment - Our only mainboard removal with upside to use it's sac ability to trigger off of the captain.
Temple lands - Using these to optimize our draws while keeping our duals on a budget. I know it sucks they come in tapped, but again it's budget.
Drowned catacomb/Isolated chapel - cheaper alternative to shock lands, and ony downside is if they come into play tapped
Evolving wilds - Everyones favorite budget fetchland
Sideboard -
Hero's downfall - Extra removal if needed and targets planeswalkers
Yixlid Jailer - This is here in case you need to control your opponents graveyard of certain abilities.
Tragic slip - Use for cards that may have indestructable or just want additional cheap creature removal.
Countersquall - Counterspell with damage upside if you feel you need to counter stuff early on.
Castigate - Use to rid of some turn 3 cards that might be a concern and EXILE them.
