Sultai Control deck, my first attempt at such a task.
Part 1: The Jank
I'm using some janky ass jank for this joint.
Exhibit A; Whelming WaveThis is essentially a 4 mana wrath for blue, and is more of a tempo play for me. Since all of my wincons are big, 7 mana krakens and/or levaithans, this is easily a game winner all in itself. Also, it wrecks tokens and aggro.
Exhibit B:
Scourge of Fleets
, and Tromokratis
Big, janky ass rare krakens that put a hurting on the opponent. Each is a one of, with
Pearl Lake Ancient
As a two of. Stompy krakens backed up by removal all day.
Exhibit C:Villainous WealthThis is a 2 of wincon between main and side, and it can truly destroy someone in the late game. Combined with a timely AEtherspouts this can ensure some powerful cards coming my way.
Exhibit D:
Empty the Pits
This allows me to generate a progressively larger empty the pits, which is very good late game wincon in this deck. underrated currently.
Part 2: The control cards
Counterspells:
Dissolve
= All purpose counter and card advantage. What's not to love? 4x for sure.
Disdainful Stroke
= Nice answer to annoying walkers, and and big creatures. Also answers big spells. Very potent @ 2 mana. 2x Main, 1x side
Negate= Sideboard card against the big spells of the format, its too good to ignore. 2x side
Removal:
Hero's Downfall= Legit ass card, can't have a black deck without it.
Despise
= aka "Iamtoobroketoaffordthoughseize"
Singing Bell Strike
= Underrated ass card imo, I think its really potent on some big creatures in this format. Especially gods and other guys who don't have many answers in these colors.
Silence the Believers=1x, just a potential board wipe in hiding.
Sultai Charm
= Why not? Super diverse card, too good not to include.
Murderous Cut=Excellent, excellent creature removal. Nuff said.
Dead Drop= Used sparingly, as a 2x max, but helps get instant 2 for ones and is just overall very solid in this control deck.
Part 3: The card advantage:
Read the Bones
; Noice card advantage spell, I can't imagine control without it.
Jace's Ingenuity= aka "iamtoobrokeforDig Through Time/the new sphinx's rev"
Treasure Cruise=Very nice at refilling my hand and then some.
Part 4:Finishers:1x
Sagu Mauler
= The ultimate control weapon, 6/6 trample w/hexproof. I loved this card as soon as I laid eyes on it.
1x
Reaper of the Wilds
= An underrated ass card again, with a lot of potential to be very annoying for the opponent due to hexproof. A lot of my finishers are unkillable incidentally ;)
Both of these come down post "whrathing wave" if needed. Might come out of the sideboard if necessary, i still have to iron out the decklist.
