How do you feel about Corrupted Resolve over Bring the End?

Alright, so most Infect decks are either mono colored or , or . I haven’t run across many Sultai variations, so you’ve got something a little unique here. Nothing wrong with that, but I do see a minor issue. With Proliferate, you’re either going to want to go all in on it 110% or disregard it entirely. A card like Grim Affliction for instance is grossly overcosted for little to no payoff. Since Proliferate would only add a single poison counter to an already poisoned opponent, it’s definitely not a card you want to be running with the current setup you have. I recommend cutting all copies and leaning more into fast buffs, something like Rancor or whatever the closest approximation in your personal collection is.

Aside from that I think everything else is perfectly playable. There are better (and significantly more expensive) cards that are staples in most Infect decks, but you’ve made your mission statement clear in the opening paragraph of your description and I commend that. I also think Corrupted Resolve is a great fit here. I hadn’t seen that card before and it functions like a full on Counterspell but at a Mana Leak’s cmc—quite nice!

Legendary Creature - Phyrexian Wizard

Infect

If a creature an opponent controls with any -1/-1 counters on it dies, create a 1/1 Blue Phyrexian Insect creature token with Infect and 'when this creature dies Surveil 1'

It wasn't enough to simply compleat every being of flesh, she needed to perfect the process. And what better way then to have her creations observe both before and after they stung their victims.

2/3

That sat for awhile, so it you're like me and have been working at it pretty much all day between things then do another... there is a plethora of characters w/o cards in flavor text. Otherwise make an Enchantment creature w/bestow that also transforms into a Saga? Too hard? We shall see.

As someone who has been playing Infect since highschool, although a Monoblack version, I got a few things to say.

  • You're not the aggro. Without you can't aggro. Not having a 1 drop stops you from applying pressure fast enough. You'll want to play kinda like a control deck.

  • If you're playing just Kitchen table, Proliferate should be fine. I just want to warn you. In case you want to power it up and optimize deck, you'll probably have to cut most of this theme.

  • Since you're a slower deck, your main weakness is going to be aggro decks. As such, the deck wants a lot more removal.

With these general stuff out of the way, I'll talk specifically about your list.

  • Don't even think about Fuel for the Cause. to counter a single spell and Proliferate is a terrible trade. If you really want to go all in the Infect theme, you could maybe run a single copy of Corrupted Resolve.

  • Mana Leak is perfectly decent for the deck. I'd cut a single copy of Spell Pierce, or at least put the other copy in the sideboard. A removal spell like Fatal Push is a good option, although a bit non-budget (but I'll be talking about options of removal later).

  • I'd completely ditch the artifac package. They're insanely slow and playing them on curve they don't help you develop your strategy. Maybe add a single copy of Karn's Bastion to your manabase if you really want something to Proliferate repeatedly.

  • About removal, nowadays we have a ton of removal, and almost all of them being removal. Power Word Kill, Bloodchief's Thirst, Cast Down, the old and iconic Doom Blade, Eliminate, Go for the Throat and a lot more.

  • I completely understand if you don't want to include Inkmoth Nexus because of its price. Affinity decks coming back to Modern made really expensive again. However, I have to say they're a breaking point for Infect decks. As soon as I got my copies, I felt the power level of my deck increase significantly. You can maybe add a few Cathedral of War to help buff your creatures.

I still have some more stuff to say but I don't want to bore you to death :P Tell me what you think. You can take a look at my primer for Monoblack Infect if you're interested. Also, you can call me for a chat so I don't pollute you comment section.

Epicurus on Wait, what type of counter?!

Well, two good suggestions out of 14 isn't too awful I guess, lol.

I've always thought that Mental Misstep would be much better if it countered a spell with CMC 1 or less, but it doesn't. It's a card that you want to have in your opening hand, which you have ever so slightly higher than a 7% chance of happening. That's the one I'd pull for Corrupted Resolve.

Wow thanks for all the suggestions.

  • Blowfly Infestation I considered, however I’m not trying to kill creatures in this deck, I am very familiar with it as I run it in my Happatra deck.

  • Corrupted Resolve I like it, I’ll consider, however which counterspell would you cut to add in?

  • Cruel Sadist just puts counters on itself, and I want to put them on other things.

  • Rishkar, Peema Renegade I had in originally but instead added in cryptolith rite, it’s harder to remove and let’s me use all creature not just ones with counters on.

  • Crumbling Ashes is another tricky one, ideally I don’t want to kill the creatures I’m putting counters on, because I want to copy them with Volrath. Also, it is not a may trigger so I would have to kill something, and if it was only my creatures with a counter on I’m blowing up my own stuff.

  • Deepglow Skate once again, don’t need lots of counters on creatures, just one.

  • Grim Affliction I did consider but again, proliferate isn’t necessary in the build and I can put a counter on something for cheaper.

The cards in the fun suggestions I also looked at, but I just want to play around with putting counters on other creatures. That being said, I had not seen Musician that is bloody brilliant and is going straight in the list!!

Really fun build, and deliciously quirky!

A few serious card suggestions:

And a few fun card suggestions:

Also, I think it would be fun to use lands with depletion counters like Hickory Woodlot, or storage counter artifacts like Blue Mana Battery.

Cheers!

I don't know how good a 1-of Serum Visions really is. I'd personally (given that you have lots of natural evasion in your creatures) replace it with a 1-of Postmortem Lunge. I might also go down a skittles and a Phyrexian Crusader for either Spell Pierce or Corrupted Resolve. Skittles and Crus are a little bit slow, and mana intensive, and I think a little more interaction would be beneficial. I also think the Darkslick Shores may not be as effective as, say, Drowned Catacombs, mainly because of the fact that you are trying to get to higher mana cards and creatures (pulse, crusader, skittles).

I don't know your meta or budget, though, so evaluate my advice as you see fit.
