So it begins. Apparently someone pulled a Portuguese Amonkhet card in a MM3 pack. Here it is. Amonkhet spoiler

Dusk 2WW

Sorcery

Destroy all creatures with power 3 or greater

Dawn 3WW

Sorcery

Consequence - cast this spell only from your graveyard. Then exile it.

Return all creatures with power less than or equal to 2 from your graveyard to your hand.

It looks like they've got their arm around him and he's supporting their weight. They're breaking live people out of sarcophagi?

April 12, 2017 2:35 p.m.

Phaetion says... #2

Look closely at By Force's art work at the sarcophagi. Are those actual hands in the front?

April 12, 2017 3:07 p.m.

shinobigarth says... #3

I doubt it.

So, we need a sarcophagus artifact of some kind still. Like Oblivion Ring in artifact form, exiles creature as long as it's out. And only 1 creature, of any power or toughness.

April 12, 2017 5:18 p.m. Edited.

Hmmm, I bet the sarcophagus artifact (if there is one) will actually give an embalm like ability equal to the creature's CMC (so basically a new Nim Deathmantle).

April 12, 2017 5:55 p.m.

MindAblaze says... #5

Maybe it'll exile a creature and make an embalmed copy of it under your control?

Atony1400 says... #8

Just imagine what else this can hit! Winding Constrictor, Saheeli Rai, Dynavolt Tower, Fatal Push if you want. RIP combo decks!

But that art! Is that Oketra? Please Wizards, let's have another walker slain by a God!

DemonDragonJ says... #9

I like how there are several other cards with cycling beyond Renewed Faith that have an effect that triggers upon being cycled, but does anyone have any idea what the flavor is for deem worthy? Why would the spell deal damage to a creature whom the gods deem to be worthy of glorification?

I also am very disappointed that WotC wishes to avoid references to the book of Exodus, because I was hoping to see plagues and slaves rebelling against their masters in this block, as that would be very epic. That is also ironic, because most historians agree that the Egyptians never actually enslaved the Hebrews, so they would not be insulting or trivializing an actual events.

April 12, 2017 10:43 p.m.

Agent_Fire says... #10

That's not Oketra but it is Hazoret. Also think about this card in commander and decks like death shadow,Electrostatic Pummeler or decks based around a singular card. Well you still can get cards out using As Foretold because it says cast. I also want a member of the gatewatch to die to a god/bolas.

April 12, 2017 10:47 p.m.

Zaueski says... #11

@Agent_Fire: You do know that you're still casting the card with As Foretold right? You're just paying an alternate cost but the spell is still cast and subject to counterspells and everything else.

That being said, Amonkhet brought all of the hate and it makes me so happy that Bolas, the most controlling guy in mtg, revives control through hate cards on his plane :D So much flavor win!!!

@DemonDragonJ: those deemed worthy by the gods on Amonkhet are turned into annoited, that picture on Gideon's Intervention is a guy who just completed the trials and is about to be executed to be turned into an annointed. Small rant: Don't turn this forum into a religious debate, I don't care what you or your biased historians say; it happened (there is evidence but this is not the place to discuss that). Christianity and Judaism are major world religions and traipsing on that would have been a foolish mistake on Wizards part. Rant over.

This set is really one bomb after another.

Really feels like they are printing cards right for legacy now.

WotC propably saw what pokemon does and decided that the only way to safe the game is extreme power creep, dropping the balance-act and just print bombs on cards.

Bloodfury Militant

Creature - Minotaur Warrior

When Bloodfury Militant enters the battlefield, discard a card.

Wow. Just... wow. Red Deck Wins is looking better and better all the time. Play this, discard Fiery Temper, pay for the madness cost. You put 4 power on board and dealt 3 damage for 3 mana. That's crazy good value.

April 13, 2017 8:57 a.m.

God harvest season is awesome.

Tap out your creatures; 2nd main drop that card; pull all the missing land you need and BOOM, you're in full control

I'm thinking Shadow of the Grave with Windfall or Dark Deal in Leovold, Emissary of Trest YIKES

April 13, 2017 9:34 a.m.

Hieroglyphic Illumination

Draw power either way. Looks like a pretty good card for limited.

April 13, 2017 9:48 a.m.

By the way... I have a question. Death's Shadow, and a few other cards like Flameblade Adept go out of their way to say their effects trigger if you "cycle or discard."

By definition, cycling means you have to discard. It even says so in the reminder text. So, why do they have to make this distinction?

April 13, 2017 10 a.m.

Argy says... #26

Just to clarify things is my guess.

Everything 5c decks ever wanted.

April 13, 2017 10:24 a.m.

AgentGreen says... #28

Hell yeah that is a solid card for 5c decks

Is this the Standard that we see a 5c deck?

April 13, 2017 10:27 a.m.

its mainly a difference on trigger timing (at least how I see it). For example, you can stifle a cycling trigger OR the neonate trigger but you can only stifle the neonate trigger after it's put on the stack (not like in the middle of a TS/game state discard/discard cost).

April 13, 2017 10:27 a.m.

dammit sorry double post didnt see the new edh card. Hell we dont even necessarily need to build 5c. its just color filtering value

April 13, 2017 10:37 a.m.

Guardians- The only invocation I like when it comes to the gods is Hazoret the Fervent

April 13, 2017 10:40 a.m.

Guardians says... #34

Hamster2558 They look fine, but Do any of the masterpieces look godly at all? They look like gladiators, not supreme deities.

April 13, 2017 10:46 a.m.

Hamster2558 says... #35

Well the only thing they really have going that makes them look godlike is their height. And feel that they did a great job depicting the gods in the invocations as large people. They are definitely not like the gods on theros who live in nyx and only appear at certain times. All in all I think that they are more human, and humane than the gods on theros, and are depicted as such.

April 13, 2017 10:52 a.m.

Ryjo says... #36

I think the invocation of RHonas standing in front of the Luxa with his pet Slithersby looks pretty good.

April 13, 2017 10:54 a.m. Edited.

Hamster2558 says... #37

Also they only have 2 invocations that have in their mana cost. Rhonas the Indomitable and Maelstrom Pulse

April 13, 2017 10:55 a.m.

Linkdude74 says... #38

Rhonas is also the only green invocation to actually have green on the border.

Being sorcery speed really kills these lands... It's not like you can surprise an enemy with them, letting them be instant speed would not have been a big deal... Also sorry for the double post.

April 13, 2017 11:25 a.m.

Argy says... #45

You can discard Fiery Temper on the basis of that 2 drop Minotaur but then it actually becomes a 3 drop Minotaur.

I think a better play is just to view the discard as a faster way to turn on Neheb, the Worthy.

I think I am viewing Exert differently from most people here, too.

If you pair Exert with Throne of the God-Pharaoh then you want your Creatures to stay tapped to get some extra hits through, rather than using Always Watching .

With Ahn-Crop Crasher coming out with Haste on Turn 3, and making something not be able to block, you are often getting through 4 damage in one turn.

Name an artifact card. Search target player's graveyard, hand, and library for any number of cards with that name and exile them. Then that player shuffles his or her library.

  1. Nice Archfiend of Ifnir art.
