White/Blue Spirits deck for Kaladesh standard. Based on my previous Eldritch Moon deck (23-5 FNm record), which had 24 lands, 2x
Ojutai's Command
. I lowered the mana base to run 23 lands and be more aggressive.
Deck Tech
The Core
Spell Queller is the reason we play this deck: he temporarily counters spells (even uncounterable ones), and provides a flashed-in 2/3 flying body. The others are there to protect him:
Rattlechains
grants Hexproof, Selfless Spirit, indestructible and
Mausoleum Wanderer
counters some spells. The beauty of
Rattlechains
is that it also grants flash to the last two for some unexpected blow outs. Do not be afraid to use Selfless Spirit and
Mausoleum Wanderer
as Negates.
Tempo variant
Typical cards:
Nebelgast Herald
, Essence Flux, Reflector Mage, Always Watching ,
Stitcher's Graft
, Gideon, Ally of Zendikar, Smuggler's Copter, Unsubstantiate. 28 or so creatures.
This variant of the deck wants to out-race the opponent by flashing in Spirits to tap their creatures or removing them temporarily with Reflector Mage. You want a lower curve here, to maximize your treats, and you want cheap, efficient spells like Essence Flux and
Declaration in Stone
, even if they don't deal with your opponent's treats permanently. This is the version I am playing.
Control Variant
Typical cards: Negate, Stasis Snare, Revolutionary Rebuff, Glimmer of Genius, the full 4
Archangel Avacyn
, Anticipate, Scatter to the Winds, Fulmigate. 20 or so creatures, generally only the core Spirits and Avacyn.
In this variant, you want to play on your opponent's turns, by flashing in creatures or using counterspells and other instants. Avoid any card that deviates from this plan (apart from a good boardwipe).
Sideboard Tech
As always, comments and +1s are appreciated.
