Zhulodok, Void Gorger

Legendary Creature — Eldrazi

Colourless spells you cast from your hand with converted mana cost/mana value 7 or greater have "Cascade, cascade." Cascade (When you cast one, exile cards from the top of your library until you exile a nonland card that costs less. You may cast it without paying its mana cost. Put the exiled cards on the bottom in a random order. Then do it again.)

SaberTech on When does Bracket 4 move …

At a real basic level, the difference between brackets 4 and 5 despite both having the same lack of restrictions is that bracket 5 has a fairly well defined tournament meta while bracket 4 doesn't. Both brackets aim to build their decks to a high power level but bracket 5 decks are designed to compete within the meta as efficiently as possible. Bracket 5 decks with the same commander(s) generally end up looking pretty similar, although some commanders may have a couple different archetype builds. Some bracket 4 decks could join in on a bracket 5 game and even have a reasonable chance of winning, but they generally won't win as often as other decks designed for the meta.

It's worth watching some videos of cEDH games and explanations of cEDH deck lists to get an idea for what the differences are between cEDH and bracket 4 decks. It can be a bit tough to spot the differences at a glance if you don't know what the cEDH meta is like.

A really strong Zhulodok, Void Gorger deck doesn't have to run that many game changer cards. It's possible to shave them down to just 3 and claim that the deck is "strong bracket 3" but that would be misrepresenting the actual power level of the deck. I'd be inclined to think that a player who does that is just gaming the technical restrictions of the bracket to stomp on people when they should be playing in Bracket 4 or 5 games.

Played a game recently with a player known to play absurd decks. I was playing Auntie Ool, Cursewretch modified precon which I would consider bracket 2. Another player was playing Kastral, the Windcrested with a Tempest Hawk theme (also would consider a bracket 2, maybe even 1). No idea what 3rd player played because we didn't get very far (mono white maybe?).

The issue was the 4th player who played his "strong bracket 3" Zhulodok, Void Gorger. Having played him and the deck before, I knew the match wasn't going to be fun but despite the pre-game conversation, he said he was playing bracket 3 (different but aggravating issue).

On turn 3, he played Scorched Ruins which let him cast his commander (Zhulodok, Void Gorger). I convinced one player to blow up his only land to slow him down (Generous Gift). I blew up a land un-tapping artifact with Putrefy. So, he went into turn 4 with no lands. He only had a 3/3 token and his commander.

He dropped an Ancient Tomb, some ramp piece and played Bygone Colossus, which led into Void Winnower and several other cards including Excalibur, Sword of Eden dropping that turn (not in that exact order). He swung for 17 commander damage that turn. He effectively locked myself and the bird player out of the game with winnower. Turn 5 he drops ~20 permanents, including Darksteel Monolith and Liberator, Urza's Battlethopter. He was then able to tutor All is Dust. We all scooped when he cast the board wipe at instant speed before his turn.

This is what leads into my question. When he was exploding on turn 4 and 5, I asked, "How is this not competitive?" To which he replied while obviously annoyed, "Someone would have won by turn 3 already." Has the competitive meta changed so much, that any win post turn 3 isn't cEDH? His build, to me, came off as bracket 5 since it was insanely resilient. Where is the line between bracket 4 and 5?

Unfortunately Commander's Plate doesn't work the way you want it to here. It specifically cares about your commander's (both commanders' if there are two) color identity, not its color. Ulalek, Fused Atrocity is a colorless card because of Devoid, but has a WUBRG color identity that allows you to play cards in any color. Commander's Plate here would just give the equipped creature +3/+3 and nothing else. It's good in decks like Zhulodok, Void Gorger though. Definitely a cut here though. Sorry for the bad new. )=

baoyouming, I am 99% sure that Emrakul is banned as a commander and likely banned from the format altogether. You're gonna have to choose a new commander ;P From among your list, I would recommend Zhulodok, Void Gorger, he'll allow you to cheat out so many spells and he's not nearly as expensive as some of your other Eldrazi!

I'm intrigued by this deck. I built one and then split Azlask and Ulalek into two separate decks since they're otherwise mechanically unique. First, definitely get a copy of Zhulodok, Void Gorger and Echoes of Eternity. You could go for a Roaming Throne since it'll help double triggers too. Anything with Annihilator is awesome, because it's technically a triggered ability that can therefore be doubled (which is disgusting. Lol) Otherwise, I'd keep the mana base relatively unchanged unless you have the premium lands. It's the most pseudo-five color deck ever. You can honestly put in as much or as little colored permanents/spells as you want. But if you decide to go all devoid with creatures (as most eldrazi are) then toss in the enchantment Spreading Plague if you want to become Archenemy. I'll keep my suggestions to a minimum though. That's the basic stuff. Everything else, just have fun with it. Add mana ramp. Lol

At least formally, Emrakul, the Aeons Torn is not legal for EDH, so it's a strange decision. I would prefer Ulamog, the Defiler, Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger, or Zhulodok, Void Gorger as the commander, given legality issues.

Some other small thoughts:

Peer into the Void

Legendary Enchantment

Whenever you Cascade for the first time each turn, you may instead cast a card that that costs up to mana more.

I sat, looking into the void, the void looked back. Suddenly, I heard a familiar voice. “Don't go back to sleep."

Quote is from Here. It isn't my cup of tea in terms of writing or story telling, but it had a nice quote I could borrow from for the purposes of the card.

So by making it cost MV7, it triggers Zhulodok, Void Gorger.

Basically what this means is, if you cast an Ulamog's Crusher, instead of being able to Cascade into something MV 7 or less, you could cast another MV 8, or even an MV 9 card such as Void Winnower.

The catch is that this only works on the first instance of Cascade each turn.

So now that Outlaws of Thunder Junction have introduced us to the whimsy of Cactusfolk, make their first Planeswalker.

Zhulodok's Prerogative

Sorcery

Cascade, Cascade, Cascade, Cascade, Cascade

Colorless creatures you control get +X/+X and haste, where X is the number of colorless nonland permanents you control.

He rejects your reality and substitutes his own.
