Zephyr Scribe

Creature — Human Monk

U, T: Draw a card, then discard a card.

Whenever you cast a noncreature spell, untap Zephyr Scribe.

smack80: I appreciate the help, however the thing about Zephyr Scribe is that it untaps itself when I cast an artifact, which is why I use it as backup Battered Golems. So unfortunately Seeker wouldn't be able to serve in that capacity. Thanks for looking, though! :)

What about instead of the Drannith Bros. you used something like Cunning Survivor and a " rummage " effect?

  1. something like Faithless Salvaging , Epiphany Storm
  2. or make use of creatures that rummage on ETB like Fissure Wizard (fun card name to say lol)
  3. or Flux
  4. Krovikan Sorcerer 's second ability looks kinda promising
  5. Mental Discipline is not a creature, but would need lots of mana. Oona's Grace would also be repeatable once it hits your graveyard, but it's still mana-hungry.
  6. Also note that if your use Brainstorm you could set up your draw, allowing you to use all the blue spells that draw THEN discard like Zephyr Scribe

That's all I could think of so far. Does that help inspire anybody, or am I reaching like usual? Maybe cram it all together and with all that draw you're bound to get Cunning Survivor in a reasonable amount of time?

Oh and some finishers to consider:

Dramatic Reversal + Isochron Scepter + any mana rocks/dorks that together make 3 mana = infinite mana and infinite storm count

Blisterspit Gremlin or Mirran Spy or Dwarven Patrol or Nettle Drone or Zephyr Scribe or Chakram Retriever + Retraction Helix or Banishing Knack = draw your deck. this works by playing the helix or knack on one of the untappers, then using that untapper's new bounce ability to bounce a 0 cmc artifact to hand, replay the artifact and repeat. Jhoira will draw the cards.

Last thing I swear; I'm little shock that Zephyr Scribe + Retraction Helix + Altar of the Brood and say Tormod's Crypt doesn't make a showing as well.

Boza: I like your assessment of the color breakdown in this deck. I enjoyed making (and enjoy playing/tweaking) this deck partially because of that challenge. Also, as you probably know, I'm on a mission to create a pauper deck in every color combination, just for fun. I'm glad somebody else agrees that 3-colors is "best" for this particular deck. =)

I looked and don't actually have any Cerulean Wisps, but you're right, good call. I'm sure I can find some somewhere.

The Alcoholic started off in the original build, but I quickly saw how it didn't jive with Quicksilver Dagger, so I started experimenting (wildly, as always, lol) in that slot. Zephyr Scribe seems pretty cool though, so I can give them both a test together.

I also like Mobile Garrison, so I'll try to squeeze in a few copies as well.

Thanks for your help. Great suggestions!

It is a really funky idea that I think is pretty awesome. the only problem with it is that it is 3 colors and I see no way to cut one:

Blue offers the best ways to tap/untap.
Red offers the most damage on tap/untap and gives access to Quicksilver Dagger, the best card in the deck. Black has the drain effects and cheapest "tap for value" creature.

So, rather than cut a color, it would be best to optimize.

-4 refocus + 4 Cerulean Wisps to save a mana.

-4 hypnotist (by far the worst of the creatures) + 4 Thermo-Alchemist

-2 shared discovery (a long shot to have 4 dudes) + 2 Zephyr Scribe - this one is skeptical as requires mana to tap, but the ability is good.
