Shiko and Narset, Unified
Legendary Creature — Human Spirit Dragon
Flying, vigilance
Flurry — Whenever you cast your second spell each turn, copy that spell if it targets a permanent or player, and you may choose new targets for the copy. If you don't copy a spell this way, draw a card.

Wow! Thank you so much, this is all very helpful stuff. I feel like picking Shiko and Narset, Unified as my first deck when playing the game for the first time was a bit crazy. But hey the learning curve has helped me to really dig into the rules, thanks for all the clarification on this. It’s only been 4 months and I am loving this game so much.

All super helpful, in the case of a card that says to “each opponent” is it targeting them? Like could it be copied in Shiko and Narset, Unified flurry ability? Like Ruinous Rampage
I also am curious because I read that Aura enchantments can be copied as the second spell? When is it true that it targets a permanent or player but doesn’t say target specifically?

Hey all,
My question relates to the text on Shiko and Narset, Unified, which says “if it targets a permanent or player” cards like Temporal Manipulation or Capture of Jingzhou they don’t directly mention me as the target and so my friend is saying they don’t copy on the second spell, as opposed to Time Warp which does say target player, but I had made the assumption that because those cards are being applied to me as the player that they would count because they don’t affect anything but the player. I can understand it needing to be explicitly mentioned “target” but what I don’t understand is if it isn’t mentioned who is the card actually targeting? And ultimately are those cards able to be copied as my second?
I have been running Shiko and Narset, Unified as an upgraded commander since it came out but I was also brand new to the game so there’s stuff I am still learning about it. So I could be wrong, I am just confused if there is no mention of target and yet it’s being applied to a permanent or player isn’t it still being copied?
Any clarification helps.
Thank you,

I reckon, what the deck really needs, is lots of cheap spells that can be cast on every player's turn, to get the most value out of the flurry mechanic. The game plan should be to cast Shiko and Narset, Unified on turn 4, prepare the board beforehand, and then spam small, damage-dealing spells that can easily be brought back with tricks like Underworld Breach, Lier, Disciple of the Drowned, or by recasting copies with Narset, Enlightened Exile.
You could then replace draw-discard effects with more "pure" card draw options like Treasure Cruise (if you have a lot of cards in your graveyard), Quick Study or flexible draw like Flame of Anor.
The main gameplay should revolve around cheap, repeatable spells, but there can also be some utility from the Magecraft mechanic. Most importantly, the deck should keep continuous pressure on opponents by dealing large amounts of damage through copying small spells.
Must have: Path to Exile, Cyclonic Rift
Useful: Cori Mountain Stalwart, Devoted Duelist, Monk of the Open Hand, Ashling, Flame Dancer, Jori En, Ruin Diver, Ledger Shredder, Smoldering Egg Flip, Burst Lightning, Electrolyze, Virtue of Courage, Fire / Ice, Galvanic Blast, Heartflame Duelist, Ionize, Lightning Bolt, Lightning Helix, Lightning Strike, Magma Jet, Parch, Play with Fire, Punishing Fire, Risk Factor, Sacred Fire, Searing Spear, Shock, Skullcrack, Thunderbolt, Wild Slash
Possible: Taigam, Master Opportunist, Breeches, the Blastmaker, Gale, Waterdeep Prodigy, Rammas Echor, Ancient Shield, Storm of Saruman, Turn / Burn, Price of Progress, Finale of Promise, Increasing Vengeance, Frolicking Familiar, Molten Influence, Slaying Fire, Wizard's Lightning,

I have replaced Angel of Jubilation with Shiko and Narset, Unified, which helped to improve the balance of colors in this deck, because they are a better match for the them of this deck than was the angel.
DemonDragonJ on Which Card Should Replace Angel …

After much deliberation, I have decided that Shiko and Narset, Unified is the best match for my deck, because, while all three cards are excellent, Flamehold Grappler is a one-time effect and Narset, Enlightened Exile is too dependent upon the contents of graveyards to be reliable, but Shiko and Narset, Unified is both reliable and repeatable, so I shall be glad to put them into that deck.
DemonDragonJ on Which Card Should Replace Angel …

I would like to apologize for starting such a great number of threads in rapid succession of each other, but I am always seeking to improve my decks, and I greatly value feedback from the other users, here.
I have a copy of Angel of Jubilation in my Numot, the Devastator EDH deck, but I am planning to replace her with another creature, since I initially built that deck when EDH was a new format, so I now realize that she does not match the strategy of that deck, and I am considering three new creatures: Flamehold Grappler, Narset, Enlightened Exile, and Shiko and Narset, Unified, and notice that all three creatures have very similar abilities, but I would like to know which creature that everyone here believes is the best match for the theme of that deck.
What does everyone else say, on this subject? Between those three cards, which is the best replacement for Angel of Jubilation? I certainly am eager to receive your feedback, on this matter.
