Micro-adjustment
Removed Bloodline Pretender
Added an Island.
The resoning for this is straightforward. About 10% of hands are really clunky to play due to not having enough land. This change directly reduces that to ~6%. Bloodline pretender doesn't add to the early game plan, there are more than 20% sphinxs without it, having an extra land focuses the deck more on what it really wants to do.
Sidenote:
Barkform Harvester is a trap my setup. On paper it sounds good to keep your Thassa's wincon alive, but in reality the deck benefits more from focusing on one of the other win conditions if it hits the discard. Barkform provides flexibility wherte there should be rigidity, the rigidity of continuing card velocity. In other words, Barkform solves a problem that the deck solves in other ways.
Firdoch Core is a trap. 3 mana rock (most of the time) is just too slow. This deck plays NOW, not later.

Quick optimization from the bulk upgrade
Add:
- Delay, easier to cast than counterspell, hits all cards, and my snowball engine doesn't care if your spell resolves 3 turns from now.
- Mind Stone, for more consistent ramp
- Fellwar Stone, for more consistent ramp
- An Offer You Can't Refuse to defend important turns, engage with enemy combos/tutors.
- Swan Song to defend important turns + some general interaction.
- Pact of Negation, it wasn't on the list because of oversight, but this is one of the best counterspells in the deck.
Remove:
- Barkform Harvester, the main upside of this card solves a problem the deck has already solved structurally.
- Firdoch Core. It looks tempting, but it tends to just be a slow rock without Unesh on the field. It was a hard choice on this one, but ultimately its one of the weakest cards on the list.
- Amoeboid Changeling, make room for interaction, there are enough low cost sphinxes in the deck that have a bigger impact.
- Mothdust Changeling, make room for interaction, there are enough low cost sphinxes in the deck that have a bigger impact.
- Sink into Stupor, the flexibility of being a land is nice, but the spell is too clunky at 3 cmc.
- Mistrise Village is easily the weakest land. There are plenty of lands without it.

New Decklist -- Post Jeweled Lotus and Mana Crypt
Obviously the Mana crypt and Jeweled Lotus Ban really hurt the deck. It made me really unmotivated to update this guide very much. I am a bit removed from the cEDH scene. The current deck list is more tuned to optimized rather then cEDH. I think that's where Unesh as a commander wants to live anyway. Updates include:
- With this list I REMOVED cards would only be good in cEDH such as Mental Misstep and several counterspells
- ADDED a few bombs like Conspiracy Unraveler and Sea Gate Restoration for fun.
- RETAINED all the really powerful game changers in the deck (except Rhystic Study, because it serves to annoy everyone in the format).
- Leaned more heavily into copying unesh triggers with clones like Spark Double, and ETB doublers like Panharmonicon
The win conditions are:
- Thassa's Oracle
- Aetherflux Reservoir w/ Shrieking Drake support.
- Combat Damage + infinite turns Nexus of Fate *list*
Some of the new changelings and other cards are really nice:
- Firdoch Core is a mana rock and a changeling, I think that's kind of dope.
- Changeling Wayfinder is the perfect ramp spell for Unesh.
- Mox Jasper works because there are so many inexpensive changelings.
- Barkform Harvester allows you to put Thassa's Oracle back in your deck, a way to keep the wincon alive even if it goes to the grave.
- Sea Gate Restoration is kind of nuts because it gives you unlimited handsize with limited counterplay.
- Conspiracy Unraveler (This card is a cluster bomb.) It allows you to play bombs, then use the bombs to play more bombs.
- Commandeer is an ideal defensive card, especially for protecting the win condition later.
- Reflections of Littjara for copying sphinx bombs like Consecrated Sphinx
- More consistent board wipes to keep the board at a normal state while you build up your Sphinx Machine: Engulf the Shore + Evacuation + Cyclonic Rift.
Expect a guide content update in the near future to reflect the current list... Perhaps the deck would benefit with some more interaction still. Will be considering this in the coming weeks.

I will defineatly add Firdoch Core. I've considered changelings, but I first want to try out more actual outlaws before going that route.

I know it's kinda cliche at this point.... but there are some specific changelings that are wildly helpful in black.....
Changeling Wayfinder, Firdoch Core, Graveshifter, Changeling Outcast, Black Market Connections....
