Final Touch...

$20 for a Deck in this Format seems pretty fair. Actually it's the cheapest deck in this Format we created so far. While building this deck virtually, I fell in love with the idea. I just hated most creature decks for a long time due to 'Oh, an Wrath-Effect? Auto-Loss...'. But this seems too solid to stay virtual. +1 if you like, critiqs are very appreciated! :D
Amazing

Assembled this deck last weekend, and played it against a friend ( OFABass ) running an incredibly cheap mana cost aggro white deck. ( reoccurring-dream ) Out of around 20 matches, I had won about 14-15. The losing matches were mostly due to either getting mana screwed, or his armored ascension, Honor of the Pure, and Elite Vanguards poking me faster than I could infect. (His deck is pretty rad and fast)
1 Drop Debate
dono_dub, 13 years ago
After running the deck twice at FNM and once at a friend's event, I've realized that the big debate I'm having with the deck is whether to keep the 3x Llanowar Elves in or replace them with 3x Young Wolf. Going to playtest more with both and see if I can come to a conclusion. Any opinions on this issue would be greatly appreciated.Sideboard work.

I updated the sideboard for my meta. Also, I switched out Increasing Vengeance for Reverberates because I found that I never use the flashback of the Increasing Vengeance and the ability to copy your opponents spell is nice.

HALP! SIDEBOARD/ MAIN DECK SUGGESTIONS!?
official8cto, 13 years ago
Going to try adding in Steel Hellkite for the obvious benefits of having a shit ton of mana and being able to use it on something. Took out the Ezuri, Renegade Leader, as his ability was nice but I normally don't have enough mana by the time I have him out and he gets countered easily. The Steel Hellkite will come back to my hand from Glissa, the Traitor *oversized* and that makes me want to add more of her to make sure I'm utilizing the combo.
Steel Hellkite should make easy work of tokens, enchantments, planeswalkers, or whatever else he needs to dispose of.

Just a standart goblin deck which tries that your oponent would have 0 life as soon as possible.
The most common combo would be Goblin Grenade + Reverberate, maybe there would be some place for Chandra second ability.

Per Theophilius' advice, I've tossed in alternate gameplans for the deck: Thopter Assembly and Molten-tail Masticore. Wurmcoil Engine would no doubt be more effective, but I don't like playing it. Anyhow, the Masticore is cheap enough that it can be hardcast easily; this deck packs a TON of creatures, so it gets plenty to off to its amazing damage ability. Thoptor Assembly works particularly well when you're getting it for free: I don't mind searching it out with the forgemaster, then getting five fliers, then casting it again (which this deck can do quite easily given its variety of mana sources and Semblance Anvil). I also like that the deck isn't afraid to see the Masticore or Thoptor in its opening hand or early game; seeing the Colossus was a nightmare before, and putting in cards to return the Colossus to the deck would've made the deck too clunky. Emzed's suggestion of Spine of Ish Sah--which for some reason I hadn't thought about too much before now--is interesting. I'm going to test it and see how it performs. I admit I particularly like that it's within the casting range of this deck and a prime target for the forgemaster to both search for and sacrifice.

FNM

So I adjusted the deck a little before this weeks FNM.
I took out the Flayer of the Hatebound, one Pyreheart Wolf and one Young Wolf
And put in 3 Blasphemous Act
WHAT A CARD! When I was being swamped with tokens or I just couldn't build the aggro soon enough this card was awesome, I dropped it for 1R one game and cleared my opponents board and kept most of mine thanks to undying.
I had some great fun, I even played against an R/G aggro wolfrun deck and stomped him. It hurts to have your Solemn Simulacrum stolen, be beaten with it and then have it thrown at you but imagine the hurt you feel when the same thing happens next turn with your Primeval Titan
I beat a Zombie deck within 10 minutes of round start and had time to wander around looking at the tables.
I lost to a mono green beats due to a dodgy draw and him just ramping out big guys faster than I could deal. Additionally his undying vs my undying made for a tricky opponent.
I also lost to zombies because I got out aggro'd. Also when swamped with a bunch of little dudes the stealing doesn't do much.
All up I went 3-2 and am pretty pleased.
Looking into adding Act of Aggression for instant speed stealing fun. Potentially dropping the Act of Treason for them unless anyone has a better idea.

No idea what to do with bad draw tests. Took a few Birthing Pods and threw them in, plus a few scaled cost creatures. Hopefully it helps when I do actual physical playtests.

Cconsidering mainboarding glaze fiend in place of tidehallow strix. or should i side board glaze fiend or run it at all? OPINIONS PLEASE!?
Zoviks, 13 years ago
Made a sideboard finally. Just simple token control and artifact and enchantment removal. Put in three Ghost Quarter to get rid of special lands and things like Vault of the Archangel and Kessig Wolf Run. Any suggestions would be awesome.

Soooo I have the ABSOLUTE worst luck ever it seems... I went 3-4 drop in the GP and 4-5 in the SC Open. I had a round 1 bye which was kinda nice, followed by a match-up with Delver which I won 2-0, I basically wiped his board and he couldn't draw an answer fast enough for Koth of the Hammer + Chandra, the Firebrand fast enough. I ended up winning the second round in a similar manner but with a forked Devil's Play before he could swing for for lethal. The next match from there was u/w humans... I basically won thanks to the stupid amount of board wipes in my deck... Next was Wolfrun and I just got rolled, We didn't anticipate as much Wolfrun as there was but even then I should do "ok" against them. I basically got flooded then screwed and that was that. From then on I couldn't draw to save my life... I basically faced 3 Delver list in a row and was either mana screwed or flooded and when I wasn't, I wasn't drawing any boardwipes to deal with hexproof =.= So I will be addressing that issue sometime in the near future. I was sad to say that I didn't see a single R/G aggro, or Naya Aggro, or Zombies, OR even control (which usually just auto losses to me). So basically, I didn't get to face a deck that I have a good match against... But as is life, i will be editting the deck in the near future to make it a bid more stable then it actually is. Thanks for reading.
(P.S. Faith's Shield was amazing! It won me so many games by either saving a Planeswalker or me with fateful hour... There was also a judge called on me EVER time I used it which was kind of funny. It was a great card and I almost want to run 3 in the sideboard {Most people only try killing a Planeswalker right before they are about to do their ultimate} If you try running it, you will certainly catch people of guard.)
If you have any questions leave them in the comments.

Tournament Resuts

I went 2-2 tonight. It should have been a pretty easy 3-1 at least but I made a couple crucial misplays that got my Kiln Fiend melted. Overall I got a great feel for what needs to be changed in the deck and I'm confident enough in the way the deck performed to take it on a road trip for another tournament here in a few weeks.

Debating
KrimsonWolf, 13 years ago
I am debating about replacing Kalitas, Bloodchief of Ghet with Blasting Station Blasting station can combine with the infinate mana combo to do infinate damage... i.e. it would work this way: 1. Combine Bog Initiate with Gravecrawler, Ashnod's Altar, and any other zombie (another Gravecrawler, or Skinrender) This allows you to kill gravecrawler for 2 mana, turn that to 2 black mana, use the first black mana to regenerate grave crawler, kill gravecrawler again with blasting station, use the second mana to bring gravecrawler back again and untapping blasting station (which untaps when a creature enters the battlefield), then kill him again for 2 more mana, restarting the cycle. although normally Kalitas, Bloodchief of Ghet would be much better in this deck he cannot produce infinate damage, he has to tap to kill so he cannot kill infinately, he does not fly, he cannot prouce an infinate number of creatures since he has to tap to produce a creature. His creatures could be good to saccrifice for mana, but by the time I can play him I should have already saccrificed a gravecrawler or a reassembling skeleton and have those in the graveyard ready to bring back. Since he's expensive, doesn't fly, and his ability is weaker than Butcher of Malakir for this deck (or even Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief the change makes sense, I'm going to make the change and playtest the deck.
Infiniate-ness
KrimsonWolf, 13 years ago
So this deck officially has basically infinate everything. I added Sylvok lifestaff, and blasting station back in to ensure that, so here's how the "infinates" work 1. Infinate Boomerang: By this I mean infinately destroying and bringing a monster back from the graveyard. Combine Ashnod's Altar with Bog Initiate and Reassembling Skeleton - Ashnods altar produces 2 colorless mana when you kill reassembling skeleton bog initiate turns that mana from colorless to black, which gives you enough mana to recreate reassembling skeleton, and kill it again (restarting the cycle). 2. Infinate Mana: Combine Ashnod's Altar with Bog Initiate, Gravecrawler, and any other Zombie (Gravecrawler or Skinrender) - Similar to the Infinate boomerang except Gravecrawler costs 1 to cast so you have 1 mana left over over after each cycle, generating infinate mana. 3. Infinate-sized monster Option a: Combine Blade of the Bloodchief with infinate boomarang or infinate mana above and any monster - Each time the cycle of infinate mana or infinate boomerang triggers you get either 1 counter or 2 counters depending on whether the infinate sized monster is a vampire, not that it matters, infinate is infinate either way. Option b: (Infinate Attack only)combine Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief with infinate mana - This allows you to pay 2 black and infinate X value to give Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief infinate attack, she can attack any monster on the field with her ability, yours or your opponents (and can attack multiple times, see below) 4. Infinate Monster Destruction Option a: Combine infinate mana or infinate boomerang with Butcher of Malakir - Every time a monster dies all opponents have to saccrifice thanks to Butcher of Malakir, repeat till they've saccrificed every monster they have. Option b: Combine infinate mana with Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief - Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief's ability targets only one creature but doesn't require tapping so it can be activated any number of times as long as you have mana, if you have infinate mana you can target infinate damage to an infinate number of creatures (and make Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief an infinately sized monster in the process) option c: Combine Bog Initiate with Gravecrawler, Ashnod's Altar, and any other zombie (another Gravecrawler, or Skinrender) - This allows you to kill gravecrawler for 2 mana, turn that to 2 black mana, use the first black mana to regenerate grave crawler, kill gravecrawler again with blasting station to deal 1 damage, to a creature, then use the second mana to bring gravecrawler back again and untapping blasting station (which untaps when a creature enters the battlefield), then kill him again for 2 more mana, restarting the cycle, allowing you to do 1 damage each cycle to a monster, till all monsters are dead. 5. Infinate damage option a: Combine infinate monster destruction with infinate sized monster - The only thing better than having an infinate sized monster is being able to destroy all your opponent's defenders, resulting in infinate damage. option b: Combine Bog Initiate with Gravecrawler, Ashnod's Altar, and any other zombie (another Gravecrawler, or Skinrender) - This allows you to kill gravecrawler for 2 mana, turn that to 2 black mana, use the first black mana to regenerate grave crawler, kill gravecrawler again with blasting station to deal 1 damage, then use the second mana to bring gravecrawler back again and untapping blasting station (which untaps when a creature enters the battlefield), then kill him again for 2 more mana, restarting the cycle. 6. Infinate healing Option a: Combine Sylvok lifestaff with infinate mana - infinate mana generates 1 mana each cycle, lifestaff costs 1 to equip, so each phase of the cycle you can equip the lifestaff to the creature before destroying it, you gain 3 life per cycle of the infinate mana cycle, resulting in infinate healing. Option b: Combine Infinate sized monster with Vampire Nighthawks - Vampire nighthawks has lifelink, so making Vampire nighthawks an infinate sized monster and attacking results in infinate life, it could be even nicer if you've alredy destroyed all your opponent's flying creatures because then it results in you having infinate life and your opponent being "infinately dead" The point of this post is to point out that there are lots of combos in this deck that result in various "infinate things" which in turn means more or less a guaranteed win, the combos are easy to get by turn 6, and the deck is pretty good at stalling until turn 6 (or later). It's also hard to prevent the combo since multiple copies of each part exist, most parts can be substituted by another part, several parts have multiple methods to get them, a lot of the pieces are artifacts and not creatures, and because many of the creatures in the graveyard can be brought back from the graveyard. Adding the mana which brings artifacts back from the graveyard could make it even harder but for right now I don't want buy any more cards for this deck. The deck does need a little luck to get the combo out (I've seen it come out as early as turn 4, but never later than turn 12), but even if it doesn't it can hold it's own allright till it can get something out.

Fixed the Deck
KrimsonWolf, 13 years ago
I figured out how to make the deck work. The key was to use Ashnard's Altar instead of Blasting Station for my self-sacrificing. So now I have a deck that I think works, here's the run-down of each card: 1. Butcher of Malakir: Kill all their creatures leaving them defenseless. This is also a good fit for Blade of the Bloodchief since it is a flying vampire. 2. Bog Initiate: An early game card that allows me to turn the mana produced by Ashnards altar to black mana for casting anything I want or entering an infinate cycle using my reassembling skeletons, or to have infinate mana from. It also helps fix the colorless lands in the deck to black mana. This is the second-most important card in the deck, second to Ashnard's Altar. 3. Reassembling Skeleton: Infinately saccrificable allowing Butcher of Malakor and Blade of the Bloodcheif to be very effective 4. Vampire Nighthawk: This can delay the game by being an early game blocker, but it's true purpose is to be the reciepiant of Blade of the Bloodchief, making it a huge flying lifelink deathtouch monster, this is especially true since this is a vampire card. This card replaced Lifestaff of Sylvok in the deck for healing, (and healing isn't as important with pestillence out of the deck anyways). 5. Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief: This card is the same as Kalitas and since both are legendary I can get both out at once, this one will come out a little bit sooner, however since this creature flies and can buff it's attack it's a slightly better candidate to apply the Blade of the Bloodchief to than Kalitas, Bloodchief of Ghet is. 6. Gravecrawler: This one serves the same purpose as reassembling skeleton except you have to get two of them for it to work, however it gives you "infinate mana" if you do get two, and you have a Bog Initiate, which could be useful for Drana's ability. I would like to add more zombies to the deck so it's easier to regenerate this one...I'm still figuring that out. 7. Blade of the Bloodchief: This card helps me to make one really big monster, preferably a huge 11/12 (or bigger) Vampire Nighthawk with flying, death touch and life-link. 9. Ashnod's Altar: since this deck needs to kill it's own monsters, I'm left with 3 basic choices, destroying them for damage (blasting station) destroying MORE monsters (and damaging life)...Pestillence, or destroying them for mana (Ashnod's Altar). There are a few other ways to get mana out of my saccrificing (Black Market), but this one gives it faster than Black Market and gives more than some of the other options. 8. Demonic Tutor -- This helps get the combinations out that I use to get infinate mana or lots and lots of counters, the most critical components are Ashnard's altar and Blood of the bladechief, but having something to equip the blade to, and monsters to saccrifice. And if I'm lucky enough to draw what I need in that arena, then this can help get some of the bigger and/or legendary creatures out. 9. Sylvok lifestaff -- This allows for an infinate healing combo. 10. Gravedigger -- This is another zombie to help activate Gravecrawler's ability to regenerate, it also helps me get cards I saccrifice (such as Bog Initiate or Vampire Nighthawks) back from the graveyard. In certain situations saccrificing a vamipire nighthawk to get mana to play a card may allow me to activate an infinite mana combo 1 turn sooner, which with gravedigger I can return to my hand then to the field. It can also benefit me without an infinate combo if it helps get Rune-Scarred Demon out on the field or a Butcher of Malakor on the field. This also helps to protect against Bog Initiate being killed by a lightning bolt or something. 11. Rune-Scarred Demon: This gives me a little more searching, I will likely have to saccrifice a creature to play it unless I have an infinate mana combo going. however after an infinate mana combo is activated I can play this card, use it to search for another Rune-Scarred Demon, and use that second rune-scarred demon to search for something else (since there's only 2 rune-scarred Demons in the deck right now). This allows me to get more monsters out, which is even better if Blade of the Bloodcheif is on the field, or I use the second rune-scarred demon to search for it. 12. Haunted Fengraf -- This helps protect me from my Bog Initiate being destroyed. I can return most of my cards to my hand using their own abilities (gravecrawler and reassembling skeleton) so returning a card at random will be a valuable card usually that I either saccrificed to get mana or that was killed by an opponent. 13. Buried Ruin -- This heps to protect me from my Ashnard's altar being destroyed. While Ashnard's altar is the most important artifact it can protect against other artifacts being destroyed too (Sylvok Lifestaff, Blade of the Bloodcheif, and Blasting station).
