I saw this in the custom card thread when it was first posted. My first reaction was that it was a cool design and that it would fit in a Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons deck if not for that red pip. After a few seconds of thought I got incredibly sad that this is design space that can not be explored because there are three cards that make 1/1 creatures every time you place a -1/-1 counter

rakdosrunner Great additions! :)

Generous Patron on Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons its awesome too!

Lathiel it's a fun good deck, but it's not broked in anyway, so you can keep or mind in peace hahaha .. he usually is based on creatures (that give us valor 1 turn after, and can easyly be removed, counter or controled) and 1-3 speells each turn.

One board wipe and we get back to back to square one xD (even with cards like The Ozolith or Resourceful Defense in play).

I would say that Teferi's Protection it's the only card that it's closest of "Broked" in our deck... one time I was really ahead in the game and one friend casted Farewell and I had Teferi's in hand ... we lough and agree with 'Im was running ahead and they gaved me cocain' hahaha

RCD2023 I ended up buying heliod, spike feeder, and im moving generous patron over from my Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons deck to this one. I'll just intentionally never combo them out for my groups peace of mind ha

Nice brew. I have my own -1/-1 counter deck here which might help inspire you. Some general thoughts:

  • I think you can get away with 23 lands, but in any case i really think you need some more 1-mana cards. I’ve found Ignoble Hierarch super valuable for getting the engine running quickly (as generally this archetype has a lot of clumsy 3-mana cards it needs to play, which slows it down).

  • I’m not convinced that Virulent Wound is worth running, as there’s so few useful targets it can hit, and a single -1/-1 counter for a card is pretty bad returns.

  • Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons is easily the best reason to be running a -1/-1 counter deck, imo you need to be running the playset.

  • a few Black Sun's Zenith could provide a LOT of value for you here. With Hapatra out you end up with snakes equal to the number of creatures in play. And with Nest you end up with that much multiplied by X. In both cases it’s usually a free win.

Gidgetimer on How Many EDH Decks Do …

I answered early and want to get in on some of the extra info that people were sharing. Decks in order from strongest to weakest are

Tayam, Luminous Enigma Rube Goldberg Combo

Chulane, Teller of Tales Mana dork tribal/"Honest" Thoracle

Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons -1/-1 Synergies

Minsc and Boo, Timeless Heroes Fast combat damage (used to be Xenagos, God of Revels big dumb beaters. My son took over the deck and then wanted to switch the commanders so I retooled it)

Ghave, Guru of Spores Tokens

Sythis, Harvest's Hand Enchantress

Miirym, Sentinel Wyrm Dragon tribal

Jodah, the Unifier Legendaries

Alela, Artful Provocateur Vehicles

First three are pretty hard combo and I would play them at cEDH tables despite missing some pieces that would make them truly over the top. Next three are for what I find the average playgroup to be. Playing impactful cards but nothing that people can't deal with. Last three are for when there are new players with out of the box or slightly upgraded precons or when I am throwing games. They do stuff but it is slow.

Pip count:

White 7

Blue 4

Black 5

Red 3

Green 8

Unsurprising to me red is my least played color. The fact that green and white are so close is interesting to me. The "strongest" and "weakest" colors in commander are only 1 apart and first and second in how much I play them. Though there are 6 decks that have both so maybe I am just a Selesnya player.
