Forcefight and Assault Formation; how does it work?

I have a Thriving Turtle and an Assault Formation on the battlefield. Then (it's my first main phase) I cast Prey Upon, targeting my Thriving Turtle and my opponent's Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons.
Does my Turtle assign 3 damage to the Hapatra?I thought it would, but my opponent said it wouldn't.

No, the turtle deals 0 damage from Prey Upon, because Assault Formation only affects combat damage.
Combat damage is a very specific term, it only applies to the damage dealt by a creature on the combat damage step.
