But the story made no sense. A dead ghost made a crazy dude use his Skeleton as a time machine. Then we lost our cool world of wedge colors.

Let's not forget any of the story questions in Fate Reforged (going off of memory here) like:
Why didn't Bolas kill Ugin rather than just leave him mortally wounded? Didn't he like to eat the more powerful foes he defeated? (Why aren't we getting that demon leviathan planeswalker card?) Why didn't Bolas hurt Sarkhan? How the hell did an echo of Ugin remain that was invisible even to Sorin? How do Ugin's bones still contain that much magic? Shouldn't some Jeskai monk, Temur shaman or Sultai person long since dragged his bones away? (I mean, really, look at Frontier Bivouac.) Weren't Bolas and Ugin pre-mending walkers then? How could Sarkhan remotely compete? Was Sarkhan temporarily a pre-mending walker? How did Sarkhan know exactly what to do? How could Sarkhan never have been born but still exist? How did Sarkhan travel back forwards in time if Ugin was too wounded to do anything? Was that lingering magic from the unwritten timeline? (Why did the guy in See the Unwritten carry on revering dragons?) Why is it that the dragon storms only got stronger when Ugin was wounded, not weaker? If you argue that's how it works, then how come they stop when he dies? What happens when Ugin planeswalks away from Tarkir? Would the tempests temporarily stop? How come we couldn't just resurrect Ugin (there are some spells which allow you to resurrect someone intact - Faith's Reward, for example, and while that exact spell may not work, surely a similar one could)? Why are the dragonlords so angery? And why does Sarkhan have a fetish for dragons that can only be relieved by bringing back dragons on Tarkir in particular?

The answer to all those questions is very simple.
It's Magic!
I hated the stupid wedges and was glad to see the end of them.
Although Nomad Outpost was useful for my Mardu Allies.

Redace878,
I think it's perfect. And I LOVE the speculation by Archive Trap Mini:
This is also a hook that I believe will carry us through the next few years. ... attempts to restore Jace's mind might reveal Vryn. The problems with Gideon's aura, combined with Ajani can carry us back to Theros. If Bolas strips the power he helped Liliana acquire, she'll be forced to rely on the Veil even more, ultimately leading to [redacted]. Chandra is someone who wants to help people, but her only power is destruction. What does she do when she has that power turned back on her? And Nissa is already marked by Emrakul. How will being at her weakest affect her, and the strange connection she has with the Eldrazi Titan?

Twitch is showing some preview cards from Hour; and one of the cards I caught was a board wipe (nukes all non-land permanents) that costs less to cast if there are 10 or more non-land permanents in play
June 16, 2017 8:36 p.m.
We also got a new BR God which isn't indestructible but able to be regularly resurrected and doesn't seem bad for EDH.

clayperce, we are mind-melding once again. Tracing the aftereffects of the Gatewatch's defeat will be so cool lore-wise, if Wizards plays it right.
The cycles (no pun intended) in this set are so cool already! Lands showing how the monuments to the Gods have now become Desert, but have also become infused with the mana of that God (a ray of hope for the future, perhaps). Enemy-colored Aftermath rares (after Grind to Dust, I think it's a sure bet). Cycling, -1/-1, Exert, Zombies, and Embalm-plus making appearances in cool new ways (I LOVE that Exert tap ability on Oasis Ritualist). An Hour of XYZ mini-cycle? A "Last Reckoning" mini-cycle? (those are just speculation). And...gods that aren't indestructible, to mechanically make their corruption apparent, which is a sweet expansion of God-type design space.
And (drumroll), I'm predicting that the other two fallen Gods will be UR and UB, to show that Bolas' influence on these Gods has stripped away their innate mana and molded them in Bolas' image. (That will also give Wizards design space to make all the Wx and Gx legendaries protagonists, I assume, which will probably be needed to give the set any semblance of hope, unlike New Phyrexia...)

The Invocation frames are still hideous imo, but WOW, THAT ART!!

The spoiled cards today are oozing with flavor and I love it. Also, eternalize is a big let down (kinda like megamorph). Hour of Revelation will probably be an EDH stable for white decks moving forward.
I love the fact that we have another land cycling set of deserts that shows the destruction of the monuments. The deserts matters cards are interesting.
The new god looks pretty cool and possible broken in EDH as a commander as you can avoid the issue of returning it to the command zone.
June 16, 2017 11:47 p.m.
Alright, that Scorpion God is actually good. It avoids the inconsistency of the other Gods, while keeping their raw power and sacrificing speed.
Of course, the colors it's in make it awkward. It's awesome for commander, for sure, but a little irritating to cast in standard because it's initially a 5 mana 6/5 in RB. It comes with recursion (requiring you to recast it) and has a cool activated ability if you untap, sure, but it's a 6/5 for 5 that you'll frequently need to recast. I can imagine the nightmare scenario when you need to untap with it just once but your opponent keeps killing it before you can.
It's not bad, it just needs to find the right deck.
Hour of Revelation is damn cool and damn good... In EDH. You might play it in Standard with a white control deck.
Desert support is legitimately starting to look decent. They've got a 4 mana Wasteland Strangler for deserts in red. I'm hyped for more.
Argy Personally, I also hate wedges, but only because they're not as cool as shards. Alara was probably my favorite block.
June 17, 2017 4:27 a.m.
Wizards put out info on the Promo cards and Planeswalker decks, and there's at least two things worth mentioning:
Ramunap Excavator (aka Magus of the Crucible), my favorite card of the set so far, has now been officially spoiled!
We got another Nissa, which makes Nissa Tribal even bigger in Standard than Gideon Tribal. Blurgh.
June 17, 2017 8 a.m.
Something's curious...I don't suppose, since Samut's Defeat isn't a card, that Samut is the key to defeating Bolas?
That, or she runs away.
June 17, 2017 8:54 a.m.
AgentGreen says... #25
The good news, Nissa is back as mono green
The bad news, she's awful
June 17, 2017 9 a.m.
Phaetion If the strength of her card is anything to go by, then no. I think that Samut was cornered by Bolas, so her spark ignites, then he laughs it off as she runs away. There's no way in hell she can defeat Bolas even with every God on her side, which we know to be impossible, don't we Bontu? The best she could hope for is to push him off the plane with the power of friendship -_-
If I sound like I support Bolas, it's only because he's more than one-dimensional and two colors.
June 17, 2017 9:05 a.m.
Looking at that Nissa's card number, could we assume she's a planeswlaker deck walker?
June 17, 2017 9:16 a.m.
DarkLaw: I would've thought that Djeru's possible death would have something to do with it.
June 17, 2017 9:18 a.m.
Crayfish she is the planeswalker deck walker. (Check the wizards libk where she was spoiled)
June 17, 2017 9:30 a.m.
Looks like Sarkhan Vol and Xenagos, the Reveler figured out a way to consume :)
June 17, 2017 11:36 a.m.
Here's to hoping one of the three forgotten gods is a Bull/Minotaur.
June 17, 2017 12:41 p.m.
I just had a thought...what if the 3 gods were guild-colors for Grixis? It would make sense if Bolas tucked them away for later to be under his control. So...
BR=Scorpion God
UR=Locust God?
UB=???

That's the only thing that makes sense to me. But...incomplete cycles of gods make me a sad panda.
June 17, 2017 1:26 p.m.
Beetle God (Scarab?) is almost certainly the third, and he looks pretty UB to me.
Here's an image from the trailer:

Nice catch. So...to update:
BR: Scorpion
UR: Locust
UB: Scarab.
June 17, 2017 1:42 p.m.
I'd be surprised if we get another Minotaur God when we already have Mogis.

Man, Wizards is really showing us fans of older cards no mercy. They're reminding us they know they exist, but won't ever really reprint them.

DarkLaw the most annoying aspect is that only 4 masterpieces are spoiled and already half of them are crap. It's unrealistic enough to get one of them and then it's possibly a desolation angel? Why do they even do that, do they just want to piss people off?
June 17, 2017 4:27 p.m.
I was looking for HoD art online and found this of what seems to be our lotus god friend. Does his posing give anyone deja vu?
June 17, 2017 4:31 p.m.
Winterblast In all fairness, No Mercy isn't a wasted slot. It's popular in commander but not used as widely as it perhaps should be because nobody knows it exists. Desolation Angel is also pretty good, just not very good in any format it's legal in.

DarkLaw I even have that card and ordered it for a commander deck but removed it again because I didn't see how it was worth its price. Maybe I'll try it again but when I saw the spoiler I was just like "come on, at least put in something really good in these super ultra rare slots". Still waiting for mana drain!
June 17, 2017 5:13 p.m.
Wow, posted this forever ago... I'm amazed no one went and got the picture or even talked about it...
June 17, 2017 6:27 p.m.
Winterblast Mana Drain might be a little overboard. Tbf masterpieces are surprisingly common, for what Wizards made it out to be. My friend bought only like 8 packs of Kaladesh and pulled a Lotus Petal. I find it difficult enough to find mythics :/ That's why I refrain from buying packs.
June 17, 2017 7:37 p.m.
We got the full cycle of deserts and some solid limited removal
Is anyone even still looking at these? Cause if not im not going to take the time to post them for you. If youd all rather squint at pirates then just let me know...
June 17, 2017 11:02 p.m.
I LOVE the artwork on the Desert cycle (ESPECIALY when placed side-by-side with the Monument cycle from AKH), but I'm a little confused by the cards themselves. Obviously you'd want them in a Desert-matters deck, but if I'm in a 'normal' deck and just want the cycling, I think I'd much rather run off-color lands (like Fetid Pools or Sheltered Thicket) than Desert of the Glorified and Desert of the Indomitable. Same effect, but I can use cards that fetch Forests (or whatever) with the former, plus I can cycle for 2 generic mana rather than 1 generic and a colored. Or am I missing something?
June 17, 2017 11:13 p.m. Edited.
Zaueski I'm looking at all the pictures.
Just don't really have anything to say about the deserts as they are pretty self-explanatory.
June 17, 2017 11:22 p.m. Edited.
Well, like the counterspell earlier got me really hype and everyone here was crickets to it... As long as the conversation flows I'm happy to post them.

I loved Fate Reforged.
It was exciting to see Ugin come back from the dead.
I also liked all the alternate art cards that were released as promos.
