Best Draw-go deck for causal meta

Commander (EDH) forum

I don't want to stomp eveyone with fast combo and I will mention that I am the target from the get-go of most games. I want a nice control deck with lots of board wipes and counterspells to deal with the aggression. What would be the best commander? Mono blue doesn't have good enough board control for me btw.

Probably white blue? Gives you counters and removal. I forget his full name but the Azorius legend that makes your spells cheaper and your opponents stuff more expensive is pretty good for this.

It will put a target on you but since you already said your the target that shouldn’t matter

Well white and black have the most board wipes and blue is home of the counter spell. So Azorius, Dimir, or Esper would be great for you.

Maybe look at Oloro or Ertai?

For me personally, my Lavinia of the Tenth deck severely controls and slows down the game. It’s a flicker detention, to combo off later in the game. Best part is you only have to worry about larger things, which aren’t usually played a lot compared to CMC <4.

If you want board control, I think she is the best option you have available.

My vote goes either Sen Triplets hatebear tribal, Numot, the Devastator resource denial, or Dromar, the Banisher because f... anyone playing monocolor.

If your meta is very slow, Azor, the Lawbringer is consistent card advantage.

The Azorius deck I have is Geist of Saint Traft aura voltron which I find to be pretty fun.

Brago is definitely my favorite for Azorius casual control. His ability is just so much fun to use, plus I'm able to run and enhance planeswalkers I love but don't really fit into more competitive metas. Nothing says "control" quite like Jace, The Mind Sculptor brainstorming twice a turn.

Joe_Ken_, my preference for Azorius auras is Daxos of Meletis . Is he as strong as the Geist? Don’t make me laugh. But he spelljacks (which I love) and he gains quite a bit of life (an underrated quality, in a commander especially)!

If you're wanting to play draw-go, then you want a Commander that either generates value in tandem with other cards easily (Brago with Mulldrifter, Wall of Omens, etc.), or directly produces card advantage ( Oloro, Ageless Ascetic , Damia, Sage of Stone , etc.). You need entirely too many cards to control a board without being able to generate repeatable value. Rashmi, Eternities Crafter can lend toward a nice tempo style deck, Tymna the Weaver , simply put, is one of the best Commanders ever.

I would recommend something like Kraum, Ludevic's Opus partnered with Tymna the Weaver . You don't have to do flashy combo finishers- they should draw you enough cards and are in enough colors that you can run Blasphemous Act , Toxic Deluge , Wrath of God , and Cyclonic Rift at the same time, all while keeping your hand flush with permission.

I think I'll go with Oloro. As a side note I like that he sits in a chair and usually doesn't get played for a long time like he's super lazy and just sits around gaining life.

Is your meta aggro? Go Oloro, Ageless Ascetic

Is your meta slower? Go Grand Arbiter Augustin IV (You will draw hate thought) or Azor, the Lawbringer (nicer)

Is your meta creature-based? Consider Merieke Ri Berit + untap effects. More combo-y but can easily be done creatureless as you just get theirs. Lavinia of the Tenth can also defend against large creature decks.

Do you want your commander to be your finisher? Dragonlord Ojutai will get there. The Scarab God will also be able to reanimate all of their creatures that you kill to heh...amass you an army.

Do you want to play creatures? Ertai, the Corrupted can grind your opponents out. Enchantments? Zur the Enchanter enchantment toolbox could be fun but I have no idea.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents. I have literally 0% of these decks IRL so that's just my best guess. Have fun!

I used to have a Zhur deck that was mono board wipes and I was making doomsday Zhur and I diddnt want two Zhur decks so I made oloro control and I won a game out of 3 the other day. Ground em out nicely. Now to get the rest of the cards an maybe add some planswalkers.

I would recommend Raff Capashen, Ship's Mage . It is the definition of draw and go for me. Leave mana up for counterspells and others, and on your opponent end step, you flash in a historic card.
