The night before the first M15 FNM I was fortunate enough to get in a few quick Sliver vs. Sliver games against the store owner of Good Games St. James, Dave. It taught me a few new things about my changes made to Sliver Supremacy.
The major change I made was dropping 4x Hive Stirrings and bringing in 1x Manaweft Sliver, 1x Venom Sliver and 2x Striking Sliver.
Striking Slivers are very strong force to be reckoned with as a 1 drop, generally on T2 due to Scry Lands, with First Strike. They gave me the edge and I certainly had to bring them back.
FNM went 2-2, losing to a next-to-no-creature Burn deck and to the #1 seeded MtG player in Western Australia, Keayn, with his G/W Agro.
Wins were in first round against a Green mid-range deck, with a T5 Sliver Hivelord and 4x Sliver Hive on the field to power it in one of the games.
Most notable though was returning to the semi-mirror match of facing Dave again in my final game of the night. I went 2-1 against Dave. Game #1 consisted of a Striking Sliver/Predatory Sliver rush, Game #2 I got beaten to the punch by Dave using Chord of Calling to grab his Sliver Hivelord before I'd seen mine. Last game was a very interesting with Dave filling out his field quick, and myself on only 3 mana the whole game. Clutch play was letting Dave swing with everything allowing me to throw out a Fog before casting out a Striking Sliver, with aid of Blur Sliver's Haste, and a Giant Growth to gain just over enough damage for lethal.
Considerations now to focus on a better sideboard, rethink Belligerent Sliver's inclusion and getting my hands on some Back to Nature for my sideboard. Also thoughts on grabbing Syphon Sliver into the mainboard as well. So much to choose from with M14 and M15 both being live!
