Opposition is another route to take.

I desperately want this to work, mostly because I want decks like Stasis and Standstill back in the meta.

Speaking of, have you considered Standstill ? It only partially jives with the feel of the deck, but at a lower level especially, I've seen it having a psychological effect on the other player, in that it'll buy you a few turns.

Or, Howling Mine ? One point cheaper than Dictate.

Hidden Strings might be good somewhere.

MirkoVosktheMilkDrinker: the idea is not really mine but i try to make the decklist my own :) Thanks for the +1!!

the5ervant: Thanks for the suggestion! Really interesting card! The problem is i have no creatures. Im considering adding Hedron Crab .. Milling 3 every time i play a land is powerful in this deck since my wincon is to deck the opponent, and i constantly return lands to my hand. With Opposition there would be more reason to add the crab. I put your suggestion on my maybe board along with the crab. Some day something really nasty will arise from the cards in my maybe board moohaha!!

DunstilBrejik wow standstill seems nasty. My opponent keeps playing lands and passing until they can play their stuff (sometimes a couple of turns later since they fear Daze ). Standstill would give me card advantage when the do play the spell. I love the idea, mostly because its a "fuck this" moment when i play it with a soft lock on :D. Would you say its better than Ancestral Vision ?

MirkoVosktheMilkDrinker: Thanks for your suggestion! Since there is no creatures in my deck, and the only creature im considering is a 0/2 i would never get a cipher copy :(. Im sure there is cards in legacy that taps permanents for 1 instead of 2 mana?

I've been playing around with a Stasis list. Check it out, you may get some ideas:

I may actually get around to building it, once I've tweaked it...

smackjack Granted, I'm pretty biased, in that I'm a LandStill player, but I would personally say in your case it's better, as while it has the similar 'suspended' card draw, during that suspension, your opponent isn't playing spells.

What you need is to play Chronatog + Stasis + Frozen AEther for the lock out and maybe use Ensnare and Chain of Vapor and the like to ensure that they have all their stuff tapped when you lock them out.

You can also use Piracy to use their lands to pay for the lock making it really fucked up and a dick move on your part but funny none the less.

How it works is that once you have Stasis and Frozen Aether out play the Tog and on their turn activate the ability to skip your turn allowing you get around paying for stasis upkeep costs. So they will slowly deck themselves over 50-60 turns... Truly Evil. I also have a Stasis Deck that is now banned in our casual group.

Here is a refrence deck list that is not mine (Im too lazy to do mine as its not in this site): http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/chronatog-stasis-1/

I would consider running a few fetchlands and 4 Tropical Island so you can run some Exploration . You have tons of ways to bounce your lands, being able to replay multiples per turn will be brutal for your opponent to deal with since you will never have to sacrifice the Stasis .

I tried looking up cards for you and gushed when I saw Gush , but then saddened when I saw the ban hammer on it . . .

gwhetzler i like your deck! What are you using Capsize for?

Dreno33 Splashing green would be good. Altho i cant afford abur duals or fetches. Maybe i will add 4x Breeding Pool and Hinterland Harbor in the future (its just a casual deck anyways). Garruk Wildspeaker is another green card that would work really good with Stasis :).

What is Piracy for? They can always tap their lands in response, can't they?

June 7, 2014 6:24 p.m.

smackjack says... #14

They can. I have replaced it with Drain Power

Yeah, this is definitely more like an old school Stasis deck than The Falconer!. I really like it. I still want to design one more like this. I'll definitely use this as a reference. +1 from me!

It wasnt my deck that I listed. It was one similar to mine. I was too lazy to go through and post mine to this site. I have had my deck prior to joining... Anywho they use capsize to bounce stasis to their hand to get their turn in or to bounce something to their opponents hand and make it come back tapped via frozen eather. Capsize = Boomarang with buy back same diff just different casting cost. Piracy was there to make them tapout for the lock. Last thing you want is the lock in place and they have 2 mana untapped with a disenchant in hand. getting everyone completely tapped out then lock is the best course of action. Forgive me that Im old school and forgot about the loss of mana burn. When that was a thing Piracy actually worked. But anyhitng to get them tapped out will work now IE drain power like you said. If I get a chance I will upload my list and you can check it out.

gwhetzler says... #17

Oh BTW if you go the chronotog route you will want 4 of them as they are key part of the combo.

June 9, 2014 11:47 a.m.

smackjack says... #18

I run 2 Chronatog because i dont really need it for the lock itself. With Stasis , Frozen AEther and Forsaken City i can just wait and eventually draw the Chronatog . As long as i eventually draw it, i will never deck myself. Do you think it would be good to run Howling Mine or maybe Dictate of Kruphix to make it easier to keep stasis alive with Forsaken City ?

June 9, 2014 11:58 a.m.

NoSoyYucateco says... #19

Yeah, I know Howling Mine is a mainstay in a lot of Stasis decks that run Forsaken City .

June 9, 2014 12:06 p.m.

gwhetzler says... #20

Yeah Howling Mine would work. I just use the Togs instead. But either will work.

I added 2 Ral Zarek . He seems amazing for this deck as he solves the problem with Stasis cost and also taps down the lands my opponent saves up for bigger spells. With the lock down and enough turns i will be able to kill my opponent with his -2. I took out 2x Enlightened Tutor to make room for him.

June 10, 2014 11:58 a.m.

smackjack says... #22

I added 2x Dictate of Kruphix to help Forsaken City . I think they are better than Howling Mine in this deck since it has flash and i have 15 other spells to play turn 2.

I also took back the Enlightened Tutor , they are just too good to be removed.

June 10, 2014 3:32 p.m.

I saw almost this exact same deck at the SCG Legacy open not too long ago. I know that they're expensive but Force of Will s are really pretty mandatory. I would also suggest Venser, Shaper Savant , Fire/Ice , and Karakas (also pretty expensive).

I also really suggest Back to Basics while running a ton of islands.

June 11, 2014 9:50 p.m.

And I just read the non-competitive part, my apologies.

Love it. +1. If you don't want to run 4 copies of Chronatog , may I suggest replacing it with 1x Eater of Days . Skip turns, crazy flying trample, and you can go fetch it with Enlightened Tutor .
