This is a mono blue standard mill deck built around Fraying Sanity. The idea is no creatures (to blank all the remove in standard right now), control and cycling. The 2 Abandoned Sarcophagus helps to reuse the cards you cycled earlier. So far in play testing, pretty easy and consistent to get turn 5/6 wins. Depending on how much you need to counter/control what the other guy is doing.
The 2 Torrential Gearhulk in the side board is mainly to bring in after my opponent has removed their removal because they don't see any creatures. He can't flashback
Startled Awake
, but does hit everything else. And serves as a nice blocker.
Every time I have tried to add the cards below, the deck just seems worse. The current cycling engine is very strong. Don't to dilute it too much. Considering adding additional Deserts but would have to cut Engulf the Shore if I did. Not sure what I would replace it with.
Cards I have considered adding:
Anticipate - like the scry but not sure if it is worth removing the cycling cards for it.
Glimmer of Genius - the same thing, I really like the card but not sure where it fits in.
Strategic Planning - same thing. Again really like the card but not sure what I would cut to add it.
Invasive Surgery
- with all the talk about others building a similar deck, being about to remove all of their
Startled Awake
may be worth a couple of slots in the side board. Will have to see how my local meta plays out.
Scavenger Grounds - like the looks of this, may do some play testing with it. Don't want to reduce the value of Engulf the Shore. If using scavenger may need to replace shores with something else.
Desert of the Mindful
- if going to scavenger, may add these as well. Really like the cycling effect, nice when you are mana flooded.
Just saw Azorius Fraying Sanity Mill (HOU Standard). The splash white makes a lot of sense. Will have to keep testing, if the HOU cards arrive in time, will take the to FNM this week.
