Kenny Rogers' Fluctuation Lab

Been trying to add my own twist to the famous Fluctuator deck.

The principle wincon is pretty obvious, get out Fluctuator as soon as possible, cycle through your deck, and cast Laboratory Maniac just before you draw your last card for the win.

Biggest problems I and others seem to have are reducing the clog causing cards below 8.

Though I've seen Gitaxian Probe discussed as an attempt to clear out 1 fluctuator, I don't like how it's banned behaviour limits the decks playability.

Some keys to mention are:

  1. Know when to hold em, know when to fold em. Turn 2 win is nice, but 3-5 is more consistent. Don't get cycle greedy.

  2. Don't forget you can cycle on your opponents turn. In those games you don't get the ideal draws, don't just cycle through. This deck is a trojan commercial, protection to the max, if you need- hold onto those cards, at the end of your opponents turn you can always cycle through, and bank something for your next turn if you don't end up needing protection.

  3. If you have your island, you can still use islandcycling to grab a Fetid Pools or Irrigated Farmland from here you can bank it or cycle.

  4. Once Abandoned Sarcophagus is out don't forget you can cast those Hollow One from your graveyard for free IF you've cycled 3 or more cards on that turn.

  5. If you've hit a snag and have the land, don't be afraid to Rescind or Wander in Death yourself to get some extra cycle cards when needed.

  6. If after 1 Mulligan you still don't have Fluctuator be ready to play this as a deck, not a bicycle.

  7. Get comfortable using your life as a tool.

In the sideboard my prefered additional wincon is Mortal Combat. The idea remains the same, cycle through your deck and cast Mortal Combat for the win. Keep in mind the deck only has 25 creatures, so in order to ensure 20+ creatures you shouldn't have more than 5 on the field or removed from game. If you can get these creatures to your graveyard as soon as possible, check how far off you are from the 20 and do so if you can.

I've also included the wincons I've seen appear most frequently in Fluctuator decks- though I personally feel they only disrupt the cycle flow more.

Drain Life and Banefire both require Songs of the Damned , and often include a Dark Ritual . Though Haunting Misery is great, it requires you to ditch those creatures, potentially throwing off your plans with Songs of the Damned
