Isareth's Journey

Standard BRG (Jund)

My pet deck that I'm really excited to try out, especially since it's also mostly rotation proof. I've loved Journey to Eternity since it came out, but now I feel it finally has enough support to take off. So let's start with our namesakes.

Journey to Eternity-Amazing value engine that enables repeatable ETB effects and just the ability to outgrind just about any deck. The main weaknesses are that it needs set up and is soft to Field of Ruin. That's why...

Isareth the Awakener-We run this fine lady. She's the back up Journey. She is sort of a faster version that requires less set up, but loses the constant recursion and is soft to creature removal. Together, the two carda should be able to line up an avenue for success.

The Set Up Cards-Stitcher's Supplier, Merfolk Branchwalker and Dismissive Pyromancer set up the graveyard for the reanimation cards while Dismissive Pyromancer, Dark Dweller Oracle and Heart-Piercer Manticore are the sac outlets to flip Journey to keep the fun a-flowing.

The Pay-Offs-Deathgorge Scavenger is great graveyard hate and life gain against aggro, thus making its ETB huge. Ravenous Chups is hungry every time it enters, eating a creature, Demanding Dragon demands either a Lava Axe or a Diabolic Edict on ETB and Vampire Sovereign does Siege Rhino things. These creatures all have powerful ETBs, but when constantly recurred, you can just bury your opppnent in card advantage. Everything is the obligatory removal.

The Sideboard-Plague Mare is the deck's anti-token plan that is also recursive in the deck. Fatal Pushes and another Abrade give me more early removal while the Abrade and Rec Sages can handle troublesome artifacts and the latter also hits enchantments. Vraska's Contempt gives me more powerhouse removal for a variety of threats. Kitesail with Journey does some silly things. Like using Journey on the opponent's Upkeep or Draw Step to act as instant speed discard. Great for Control matchups as are the last 3 cards, the Planeswalkers. A 2-1 split of Vivien and Liliana is such because while Liliana is more on theme, Vivien is also removal for most control threats and things like Seal Away and Cast Out. Plus, control opponents will probably have grave hate, so boarding into a card draw engine when forced to play fair is huge. Plus, the majority of the deck's cards are creatures(almost 1/2 of the deck).

And thats everything. I love the deck, and I plan to do a lot of tinkering to refine the numbers, bit I think this is a great start. All that really needs to be done to make it rotation proof is to replace the Fatal Pushes with Moment of Craving or Shock, Abrade with Lightning Strike, Heart-Piercer Manticore with anything(Ravenous Chupacabra, Vampire Sovereign, Demanding Dragon, etc) and the Liliana to a 3rd Vivien. The manabase would also obviously need some tweaks(easy fix if they plan to reprint shocklands), but other than that, just 8 cards.
