Sideboard

Hi everyone!

This is a mono-green ramp strategy that uses cards like Arbor Elf and Voyaging Satyr to untap lands that are enchanted with either Utopia Sprawl or Overgrowth. This can fill up your pool fast enough to be playing Primalcrux or Khalni Hydra as 8/8's as soon as turn 3.

CREATURES

Joraga Treespeaker is a great mana dork that you could leave on just level 2.

Leatherback Baloth is an all-star because getting to three green won't be a problem.

Surrak, the Hunt Caller can make your fatties even bigger threats by giving one of them haste if it just came into play.

Thragtusk because, Thragtusk.

Verdurous Gearhulk can make himself bigger, or he can make our "mana dorks" less terrible in combat.

Primalcrux starts out as a 6/6 for 6 with trample which isn't terrible. Conveniently, this card benefits off of the mana costs of cards like Leatherback Baloth and Khalni Hydra.

Vigor is a lightning rod that keeps coming back.

Regal Force has the potential to draw you a boat-load of cards.

Engulfing Slagwurm will have a hard time finding himself in the graveyard because creatures can't really hurt it during combat.

Khalni Hydra is good because on turn 3, it could only cost 6 mana assuming you have played an Arbor Elf or Voyaging Satyr on each of your turns. This plus just one Forest with Utopia Sprawl equals and 8/8 with trample coming at ya on turn 4.

Craterhoof Behemoth is a great finisher to search up with your Chord of Calling.

Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger will kill fast.

Emrakul, the Aeons Torn is arguably one of the best finishers in the format.

ENCHANTMENTS

Utopia Sprawl is great on turn 2 and is essential in the combo to get out your Primalcrux or Khalni Hydra.

Rancor comes back and give our Surrak, the Hunt Caller and Leatherback Baloth trample plus a little extra power.

SORCERIES

Primal Command is and amazing toolbox card that can do almost everything it needs you to.

Tooth and Nail can allow you to cheat out the finishers.

PLANESWALKERS

Garruk Wildspeaker is great ramp and could close out a game by giving all of your dudes trample.

LANDS

Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx is good in any mono-colored strategy, but is especially good in this one because of how much green devotion we have.

And what green deck would be complete without a few (or a lot) of Forests?

P.S.

This is my first real crack at brewing in Modern, and I am looking for some help/advice. I have never been to an organized Modern event, but I do plan on taking this deck to a local one once I complete it. Because of this, I have next to no knowledge of the format as it stands. Consequently, I don't know what to build against. Any help in this area will be greatly appreciated.
