Blood is really warm, it's like drinking hot chocolate but with more screaming.”

DECK DESIGN: RULE #1 - Cardio

Geth's Guide to the Eldrazi Apauperlypse is a pauper deck built using only commons. Our former LGS had a house-rule where we could only use commons that had never been reprinted as anything other than common, which removed popular creatures like Crypt Rats from our “original” pool. Since then I’ve planned to re-tool this deck using all pauper legal cards, but keeping with the overall flavor. This Deck is a hybridization of Black Aggro/Control, and ghetto Re-animator. The deck controls the field early through discard and removal - while having the potential to drop an extreme threat in the early rounds as well.

SYNERGY: RULE #2 - The Double Tap

Getting off to a quick start can be paramount in the pauper environment. Ulamog's Crusher is one of the most powerful creatures available to pauper, but the expensive casting cost makes most shy away. Use your Putrid Imp, Rotting Rats, or other discard spells/abilities to get Ulamog's Crusher into the graveyard early. Bojuka Bog and Shred Memory ensure your opponent’s graveyard stays barren, and cast Exhume. Unless they have an immediate response to Ulamog's Crusher the game is likely over as the Crusher “Double Taps” them into sacrificing two permanents at a time, as well as dealing a punishing amount of damage each turn.

Shred Memory can also tutor for Exhume if needed (increasing our chances of getting that final combo piece). It can also search for Echoing Decay, Drain Life, Dragon Breath, Mesmeric Fiend and Geth's Verdict allowing us to adjust our hand as needed..

SIDEBOARD: RULE #5 - No Attachments

The original version piloted Dark Ritual, which is the most powerful mana spell for black, it’s addition created the opportunity for a first turn Ulamog's Crusher. However, the combo required 4 cards, making it an unlikely scenario, that was relegated to the sideboard and later cut.
The current sideboard utilizes Apostle's Blessing which can be tutored for by Shred Memory and used to combat removal. Crypt Rats are a powerhouse in this format, controlling the board well - but they also kill many of our base creatures. Duress & Wrench Mind are useful to combat blue control or decks that rely on several instant pump spells to kill an opponent. Sign in Blood is useful in quicker games to help track down your combo pieces.

BUDGET: RULE #7 - Travel Light

I build every deck under a $100 budget, to be affordable for casual players. While this removes many high priced and sought after cards from my potential pool, it also forces me to be creative and look into a wider scope of cards. Occasionally I build a deck that exceeds this amount, either due to price inflation, or a few lucky pulls in packs that I opt to keep, and in those rare cases, I will attempt to annotate replacement options that would bring the deck back in line with this budget.

FEEDBACK: RULE #20 - It’s a marathon, not a sprint, unless it’s a sprint, then sprint.

While this deck performed well in it's original form, consistency was an issue. It featured a bit of an identity crisis - are we full reanimator, where we want to constantly fill our graveyard, or is it aggro/control with a reanimation splash. I attempted to switch to B/U and found full reanimator left the deck far too weak vs aggro decks, however I did make use of some suggestions to fine tune it's consistency. I'm always happy to hear suggestions, criticisms, or general feedback!
