Thinking about what to do with the Assassin's Trophys I pulled during prerelease lol I've been playing Gideon Tribal in BW and I really really enjoy playing it. It can be a bit slow for modern, but it's super fun and sometimes underrated. This is what I came up with while thinking about Abzan.
Really, what excites me is the removal package. Originally I was thinking about Fatal Push, Path to Exile, and Assassin's Trophy, but that proved to be too taxing and cut into my planeswalker count. So I cut the 3 copies of path I wanted and up'd the 3 trophy's to 4.
I also wanted to run 3 board wipes, but could only justify 2.
The Birds of Paradise are there to address the mana base concerns. Three colors is hard. I was originally thinking of using Oath of Nissa, but since I'm running Siege Rhino too, I figured it would be better to play mana-fixing that doesn't target -just- planeswalkers. The Siege Rhinos are in there to help with the beat down if the tokens and planeswalkers can't do it.
Also, I love to play with Thoughtseize and Inquisition of Kozilek.
PLANESWALKERS
Liliana of the Veil: An all star. I don't have to justify this one. She provides removal and hand hate.
Nissa, Voice of Zendikar: Token production for early chump-blockers. Really she's here as a pseudo-anthem.
Liliana, the Last Hope: Becoming an all star just like her older sister. I kind of want this in the sideboard, but the -2/-1 can act as some removal, and bringing back my birds may be important.
Gideon, Ally of Zendikar and Sorin, Solemn Visitor: Both of these cards are the token producers. They provide the beat down.
Vraska, Golgar Queen: The other card from GRN that I like a lot. It's almost free card draw with the number of tokens we make. Card draw is super tough for super friends decks (in my experience) so I'm hyped for this. The removal is also really nice.
