Best Ever Mana Artifacts

General forum

I was wondering how many mana artifacts have been created that people actually play. I want the best, fastest, cheapest mana creation possible. Post what you can, but remember, NO MOXES! (or black lotuses)

Everflowing Chalice was big in standard, with control, tezz, and my Knowledge Pool brew.

Awakening Zone , though it isn't an Artifact, combos with an innumerable amount of other cards while providing you with mana.

Skittering Invasion works well, also.

Uhh, but for Artifacts, Sphere of the Suns does a great job at fixing mana without needing a specific color to cast it. Then there's Sol Ring , Doubling Cube , Dreamstone Hedron , and the other obligatory EDH mana-facts.

Im going to get flak for this but Khalni Gem i always play, especially when u have no land in ur hand, tap the mana to play it, bounce 2 tapped lands, play one bam stil got 3 mana, great coz it says "Tap: Add two mana of any one color to your mana pool." so in multicolour decks it helps more than u can imagine

so turn 4, Khalni Gem , bounce 2, play 1, have 3 , mana open stil, round 5 if u play a mana u have 6 mana available to you :)

Khalni Gem doesn't actually ramp, it just filters.

To play it on turn 4, you need 4 mana. Assuming you haven't ramped at all, that means you need 4 lands, one of which had to have just been played. When you play it and return two of those lands to your hand, your field still has a max yield of 4 mana - two from the unreturned lands and two from the Gem. You can't play another land on turn 4 because you already played it to get Gem out. That means you haven't really increased mana production, you've just given yourself a filter and a cushion if you miss a land drop, because you get two lands back in hand.

@epochalyptik it actually ramps for one turn. on turn four you play a land tap two lands for mana then play Khalni Gem returning the tapped lands to hand then you still have four mana avalible to you so turn 4 you have 6 usable mana.

I fail to see how you have 6 mana.

4 mana on the field -> tap out, play Khalni Gem , return 2 lands to hand -> 2 lands on field, untapped Gem can tap for 2.

That's a maximum potential of 4 mana, only 2 of which is useable immediately afterward.

Khalni Gem was only usable for the Myr Welder that you exile Khalni Gem from the grave to get it's ability. Used with Soliton (being exiled by Myr Welder as well) this allowed for an infinite mana engine that allowed you to go big on a card:Blue Sun's Zenith or card:Red Sun's Zenith (or any other X fireball spell) to your opponent...

If only Khalni Gem got a reprint, or at least something like this got printed in the next set, this could see a lot more potential for a fun strategy. Don't ever see this being tourney viable though.

For Standard at the moment the only mana ramping comes in the form of Sphere of the Suns and Mox Opal . Everything else is weaker in that it's a creature or that its 3 mana or more... The next best card for possible ramping is Druidic Satchel , but that's also a 3 mana artifact with a 2 mana a turn activation for a chance of something happening. Manalith and Pristine Talisman are also interesting mana ramping stuff in standard, but if it's modern your looking into for artifact ramping, your best looking at the stuff used for "scrambled eggs" style decks.

Hope this gives some food for thought :)
