Welcome, my friends, to the best kind of cheese. All you need is not but 3 swamps, and suddenly you become the archenemy. Rats can, and do beat out the best of other tribal stratagies. in my playgroup i have the slivers deck (before the new precon comes out anyway) edgar vampires, elves, (ur)dragons and more, and im either stomping them into the ground or going even at worst with decks like the big Sliv's. you outpace those fast combo decks, but you have to play agressive. You cant play nice, you have to assess the threat. most creature decks struggle to get through the wall of rats, but mass flyers and such will be a problem unless you get lucky with Akroma's. what you really have to do, and i dont make this pun lightly, is play like a real rat bastard. swindle, tell half truthes, and make the other guy look like the threat. it is the best way for our stupid little pile of rats to reach critical mass (honestly like 6 rats with one of the big recursion spell in hand). Piper of the swarm is one of the best cards in the deck and can turn what was a medeocre ratless opening hand into a snap keep, and bontu's and blood artist are your other really good 2 drops that you should be looking for in opening hands. ratcatcher is also a must grab is possible as he fetches things like ashcoat, or even just more relentless rats; not to mention karumonix is a game ending monster. Cards like mind crank and alter of dementia give you an alternate wincon just in case, as sacing a few 30/30 rats will have graveyards full in no time, and mind crank keeps attacking important even iff for some god foresaken reason your damage isnt killing them and you cant find kaurumonix.
